Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Diamond Dogs

This ain't rock'n'roll. This is genocide!

As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent
You asked for the latest party
With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump
Dressed like a priest you was
Todd Browning's freak you was

Crawling down the alley on your hands and knee
I'm sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see
The diamond dogs are poachers and they hide behind trees
Hunt you to the ground they will, mannequins with kill appeal

(Will they come?)
I'll keep a friend serene
(Will they come?)
Oh baby, come unto me
(Will they come?)
Well, she's come, been and gone.
Come out of the garden, baby
You'll catch your death in the fog
Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs
Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs

....regarding the left hand of old big boss. Its covered all the time, but its very "lifelike". Also, there is ZERO scarring on his head.

Was already in Peace Walker. Kojima doesn't really stick that closely with actual tech. I mean... the games have robots!

Who cares about lore. Give me good direction, fun gameplay, and an exciting story, and I won't even care about the continuity. It's too bloated for its own good anyway. :p

I want those things too, but I don't know if a "what a twist!" ending like that would be handled that great in the direction department. And I don't think it would be the nutty epicness of previous games.

What makes you think the coma ever ended? Do you think any of the game is real? It'll be pretty awesome if the game supposedly takes place in 1984, but there are no references to anything beyond 1975.

So we're supposed to believe that after the hospital scene(s), Snake gets a proper robotic arm, and starts up a new outfit called "Diamond Dogs" right? Bowie's Diamond Dogs album was released in.... 1974. :)

And, even more appropriately, the original concept for the album was inspired by the book 1984.

Anyway, I could not care less about the game's story, so I am not the right audience for the trailer. Just nail the gameplay and let me skip the cutscenes, Kojima.

I continue to be surprised what the developers can do with the ancient ps360 hardware... hitman, tomb raider, bioshock infinite... & now this wow. Still curious how will runs on current gen.

Ok a theory I just thought of. Snake is brought in to hospital after a huge traumatic event, Psycho Mantis is then brought in to treat his post war stress while he's in the coma and while there he goes through all these hallucinations as a way of fighting through the stress.

Something along those lines. Wasn't that Mantis' job before he went nuts?

MGS4 got away with it cos he didn't look like Snake/Big Boss anymore. he looks similar but obviously meant to look different and older so the voice suited. In GZ/PP he looks identical to how he did in MGS3 so having a different voice is odd.

To me Snakes defining feature was his voice, he didn't sound like anyone else and it matched his face very well. It wasn't the best quality voice acting but it was definitely apt. And for me Hayter is the one and only Snake. Imagine replacing Nathan Drake with someone or changing Master Chiefs voice

Yeah I agree, I'm honestly not sure if I'm happy or sad about it at this point. I think I'd be more upset if this was Solid Snake we were talking about, I think Hayter is synonymous with that character. With BB however, I always assumed it was going to change at some point given the differences in Liquid and Solidus' voices.

subplot from peace walker, outer heaven is the first private military group and one of Cypher plan is to fire a nuke from motherbase and make them looks like terrorist group, a threat for every country in the world.

in Ground Zero trailer, you also hear conversation between big boss and miller about upcoming inspection from UN to motherbase.

so presumably, something will go wrong and Outer Heaven will be blamed for it.

Sweet. Thanks for the rundown. I really need to replay PW... or at least read a wiki cause I didn't like that game that much.

No David Hayter? Yes please.

Richard Doyle did fantastic with the shit he had to work with at the end of MGS4. The ending once he shows up is terrible, but Doyle almost made it work for me.

You guys, I know it's too early for false hopes and pipe dreams, but what if Hayter isn't voicing Big Boss because at some point in the game we meet a young Solid Snake?

I would say XOF find out Big Boss has woke up send a strike team to put him down they use Mantis. Similar to Screaming Mantis using her attacks to torture and control people during a battle.

well the lack of scarring may not necessarily mean much. The guy was revived from a charred corpse. Lack of scarring ranks kinda low on a list of things that he should have.

I think people are jumping to conclusions if they think the entire, or even a majority of the game will be in Big Boss' head. All this hospital stuff is to throw the fans off. The real game probably begins post-coma, post-new arm, post-Diamond Dogs, in the real world. sometime in the mid to late 80s.

Kojima said during today's presentation that the hospital section acts as the game's tutorial. I could see it maybe fast-forwarding after the tutorial is over at the most, but I'm not sure.

Reading this announcement and watching the trailer has made me realise my excitement for the MGS series has dwindled to a tiny spark. The series story arch has gotten more and more convoluted with nonsense in each iteration that I have no idea what's even going on any more. Also - a dude on an operating table wearing shades... le sigh.

People that are wondering how much MGS they will need to have played to understand what's going on should consider going on youtube and watching some let's plays. I'm sure there's a way to watch Peace Walker and the other entries if you don't want to go back and play them before MGSV.

The dude is most likely McDonald (Kazuhira?) Miller from Peace Walker, the shades are there probably so we recognize it's him

There might be a chance that Mantis is independent of the XOF. Mantis could be working alongside Ocelot or even a patient at the hospital that escapes/is let loose to disrupt XOF's plans.
