Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

That's how I read it as well. It's him telling us the whole thing is bullshit, but he can't explicitly debunk it because its an unannounced product.

Anyone who has taken a Communications 101 class could have figured this out.

But insane, hyperbolic reaction instead of rational thought is a fun way to kill a Friday at work, I suppose.

Hyperbole? YOU were the one accusing everyone against this of being pirates,

You don't think he lacks empathy?

"get with the times and get the Internet."

"Why on earth would I live there?"

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
It's cute how all the pirates are upset about "always online", though. Oh, not a pirate, just don't have a stable Internet connection? Go buy a Wii U. Nintendo has your back.

This everyone upset with always online is a pirate, accusation got another user banned earlier in the thread. Watch it.

If the gaming side of the Internet was a barometer of sales, the Wii would have tanked, and iPad sales would be in the toilet.

I hope you had fun killing your friday at work...

Did you miss the part where those comments were made to a friend of his, and they were joking with each other? Said friend even said that was the case.

the tweets that were not about "city" stuff, which came before the "city" stuff, were not directed at any specific Twitter user

7500+ posts about a guy obviously trolling another on twitter. How will gaf spin this crow onslaught?

Jesus fuck man, read the thread. That tweet happened within the first 1,000 posts and has been discussed. Christ.

That's not the part everyone has a problem with. Most of us just have a problem with his cavalier attitude and shitty analogies that miss the point completely.

Let's just say this guy and the OP of this thread just rescued Microsoft if the always on nonsense is true. They managed to expose this to the masses unlike any other news item ever before and the outcry is pretty hard to ignore. I'm sure the managed at MS feel this pressure from everywhere and they will make sure they won't make this mistake. They felt only a taste of the wrath that would siege them, I'm fairly confident they're going to take the appropriate actions to not experience this ever again. And there is still time before the launch of the new consoles.

I'm sure they would have done a lot better if they could have waited to say "online only" after they got people built up on all the new features and games, and were able to use actually thought through defenses that doesn't include "move elsewhere" or "deal with it" when called out on it.

I look forward to your meltdown/damage control when it's confirmed to be Always Online.

After half a dozen red rings and controller after controller developing analog drift, I support this statement 100%.

After how much they fucked me over this generation, I cannot wait to see how the next Xbox crashes and burns.

I forgot about this. Microsoft's burned bridges.

"Things break"

I remember when the red ring fiasco really kicked up and I really thought this would take down the Xbox 360, but it didn't. It was like watching George Bush win a second term.

Now that next gen is here, so many customers that were harmed by the red ring catastrophe now have a chance to completely dump the platform. I couldn't imagine subjecting myself to that kind of nonsense for another six or eight years. This always online strategy might help them break ties finally. The last straw.

Hmm Major Nelson's post was different than the other statement made by Microsoft.
"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

Is this him debunking it?

It's not him debunking it. It's not a confirmation either. It's just... him spicing up a very bland press release because... that's his job, I guess. Just a nice fancy way of saying "wait for the reveal."

I have only had one Xbox 360 and I'm still using it. 6 years now? I consider myself one of the lucky ones.

I feel bad for you. :(
So do I. I had 2 repairs and I've bought 3 consoles and I thought I had some bad luck. Can't blame anyone for never buying a Microsoft console again after 15 failures.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Come on. He was only joking with his friend about city life versus rural life, not the other shit.

Yes, and I recognize this. A lot of people don't, apparently. Nobody should be upset about the conversation between him and his friend. Dumb place to have the conversation, but they were joking around.

Everything else that was no between him and his friend is fair game, I realize this.

Who cares?

I guess they do.

Still, I recommend you give the thread a better read.
You'll see that the jokes are not the issue, if anything.
Most people are worried about the always-online thing, myself included.

I can't blame you, though. This thread moves at the speed of sound.

I don't think that people don't see that. It doesn't matter. You must conduct yourself appropriately in an always connected world. Especially if it's attached to your own personal account. It's the same reason that some jobs now scan through your facebook account. If the president were to twitter "Fuck North Korea, we should just hit em and be done with it" on his own personal account to say, his wife or buddy, would that still not hold some credence? It's obviously a very extreme comparison but the concept is the same.

"Whatever. I guess GAF is happy. I'll still be getting one, my Internet connection isn't a problem. Looking forward to [exclusive game]!" -something along those lines

all i was doing was replying to someone.....and to the "who cares" thing, why would what i posted earlier have anything to do with the topic at hand? Pointless trolling reply.
