Project GAF Inn - $5,000 for a mark in Obsidian's Project Eternity [FUNDED!]

The Technomancer

card-carrying scientician
Alex is indeed me! I just checked my Obsidian forum messages and saw I got the reply from Chris - he sent me the e-mail address I need to forward to, so I'm happy to send the go ahead to him

Anyone got any poses / requests for how the Troll should look? If no-one has any pressing desires for anything in particular, I'll send a reply back in a couple of hours' time and just tell him to let his inspiration guide him :p

Edit: He also says:

:D

Edit 2: I did mention in this thread back when the Troll thing was first announced that I'd contact Chris about the Troll; sorry if it wasn't clearer.
I'm picturing like a troll hunched over a murky crystal ball, peering at something...I dunno

Pledging on this means we get the Campaign Almanac right? It says so in shagg's OP but I just want to confirm.

I'm here, about to hop on a plane, what's up? Thought we were funded.

Holy shit. Summoning is complete!

I want to increase the pledge by a little so we can ensure everyone gets digital products (and a higher priority for us in terms of what kind of customization we want). Increased mine a bit to accommodate others with awesomeness!

Just a little... <3

I am posting from cellphone because this is too exciting to look away from.

I still believe in my heart that Evilore will somehow match our collective pledges. Hahaha.

Are you planning to post our grand, grand total, shagg?

Alright. I just up'd my personal pledge anyway just in case.

Q. What are you going to do with the physical products and the 10 downloadable copies and the rest of the items that come with the Tavern, NPC and Weapon? Can you give it away to everyone in the community? What if I just want a digital copy and don’t care about physical?
A. I’ve been in talks with Obsidian. The initial plan was to give everything away via a raffle, where every dollar will count towards the raffle. A lot of you have voiced that you rather get nothing since you’ve already donated directly to Obsidian for the game, or that you rather get digital product. My goal is for everyone who pledges to at least get digital copies of:

Soundtrack;
Collectors’ Book;
Fun Pack (Wallpapers, etc);
Strategy Guide;
Novella by C. Avellone;
Campaign Almanac;
Kickstarter In-Game Item* (if possible);
Beta Key* (if possible);
Special GOLD thanks in credits: Credit will go to "NeoGAF Community" as it's a joint donation; and
Memorial Stone: Credit will go to "NeoGAF Community" as it's a joint donation.

These are the things that Obsidian can easily giveaway without jeopardizing any purchases. If we do end up getting additional digital copies of the game, that will be given out to the community.
It'll be a great way to spark the interest of those that were not sure of getting the game to eventually getting it if they love the material.

In case we can't get these things, we can always just do the raffle - so it's no big deal.

I don't really care, as I only threw in like .1% of the total anyways. Many donors will get that stuff anyways. The raffle of physical might be fun, based on per dollar contributions. I've got everything physical aside from the signed book coming anyways, so I'd just give away anything else I might receive to poor, but interested gaffers. I you do raffle, make sure to hold back a few bucks for shipping costs.

Yeah, if we can't get everyone something then the raffle would be great I think. I only could afford $10 but I'm hopeful anyway :D I could do with a little bit of good news these days.

Final Tally:

159 Backers
$5,500 /$5,000 (110%) PLEDGED!
(Average of $35 per Inn Keeper!)
Biggest donation: $700.00!!

Thank you all! Thank you for being part of this. We did good! :)

Special thanks to the lurkers who donated, the top donors who didn't ask for anything in return, everyone who kept this thread alive (you know who you all are!), and EviLore for your last minute support!

Once more: great job with this shagg. And thanks to everyone who donated as well, feels good to see this community pull together.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
I am sorry to give this a 4 month bump, but was there any new news here? Did Obsidian ever got back to us what we can and cant do? Did they ever comment about what to do with the physical goods that we'd have liked to trade in for digital stuff?
Were there any updates on this project in general? Why is there no proper thread made by Shagg about the follow up discussion? There was a discussion thread but I thought Shagg meant to create a new one, and that one died fast anyway.

SHAAAGGGGG, I demand ANSWERS!

Edit: The updates from the devs in the timeframe of those 4 months:

1. Art stuff
2. Non-Core Classes, Cooldowns, Attack Resolution, Damage vs. Armor and a Tileset!
3. Pantheon Design
4. Dwarves and Doors

Tbh, thats not really much in terms of dev updates. That was everything I got from http://eternity.obsidian.net/ in the time frame of those 4 months. Is it just me, or does Wasteland 2 seem to be way further ahead in development?

I don't expect input to come from us for 8-12 months. When is the game supposed to be out again?

Well, there could be at least information regarding the matter of physical goods, since we dont want them AND we need guidelines for our inn, since we cannot discuss it before. I mean just the GAF planning could take months, the earlier we can start, the better right? They cant just announce it and tell the involved parties "Hey, you got a month to make your inn now!". They need to sort these guidelines out as soon as possible. And someone should tell them. The more time people have for their design, the better its going to be.

Considering that the Wasteland 2 funding drive was back in March while the Project Eternity drive was in September, I'd say you're probably right!

lol, yeah. I was misremembering it. I thought PE was before Wasteland 2 and not the other way round. The rest of the post still stands though. I am sort of surprised there wasnt any more news on the guidelines for "inn creation" for example.

Fargo had the project on the drawing board for years iirc.

Well, they hit all the bonus goals so that means develoment time has probably been extended.
I don't expect this to be done until 20-28 months from now :p

Holy shit. I almost forgot about this. Almost!

In terms of update, they haven't got back to anyone who pledged $1000 or higher, whether its in-game portrait or Inn. I don't think they'll send anything until Q4 2013.

Thanks for the bump Toma, I'll start a new thread. I'll need a little help with it so PM me and I'll PM a few others for it. I'll ask those familiar with Obsidian's previous titles to create a short list of do's and don'ts. But then again, it's something Obsidian will have to ask us to do so and they haven't said anything at all regarding that...

update on submissions for ingame stuff.
Q: When will I be able to start submitting my item, character, or location designs?

A: The guys have been talking quite a bit about this recently and have already started designing out the forms. Our current plan is to have those of you with those tiers be able to input them directly in our backer portal, and you can revise them at any time up to a certain point down the road (which we’ll let you all know – this point is when we would send out your text for translation, and it becomes expensive from this point to make edits.) But until then, start thinking about the concept for the thing you’d like to add! Adam will have an update on that in the coming weeks with more detail. We’d like to make sure there’s enough backstory and content available for you to draw connections from, and our new website will be the place for that.

Did people actually give you money to pay for the KS, Shag?

I'm curious cause it just seems so weird -- or does a large portion of NeoGaf know each other very well?

@Obsidian Can you guys add squids to Project Eternity? You already got the perfect environment for them in the underground water level!

That sounds pretty much like a confirmation of there being squids in the game.

Shagg did a lot of shagging to get this good deed done. It was a sloppy couple of weeks.

Alright, so is this thing starting up soon then? :D
Can we get a list of backers of Project GAF Inn so that we can pat eachother's backs?

Man, I was just thinking about this thread (and shagg's admirable faith) the other week.

Come over here, you! *pats SquiddyCracker back*
