TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

yeah, crazy that they are trying to find reasons for people to choose the XB1
I feel their methods are sordid.

Was it pathetic when Sony was doing it during the PSone and PS2 era?
They got developers on board by giving them a platform that didn't break their backs. CD's are super cheap and was easier to develop for compared to the other consoles out at the time. PS2's support was mainly just riding on the PS1's success. Xbox and GC didn't come out until 2 years after the PS2, so install bases were naturally MUCH higher than the other two. So it made developers go there.

Sony spend a lot more on 1st party devs. That might be the better strategy long term but buying exclusives is also a way to go.

If you buy exclusivity on a game per game basis it is pathetic but when you buy a third party studio and make it 1st party that is good business?

Yes, it's in investment. But I think the small details like EA not being able to say shit about the PS4 version of BF4 UNTIL the Xbone version was announced. There is no other reason why they'd do that than money.

Waiting to see some gameplay footage BUT if all Microsoft has to show at E3 are sci-fi or military multiplayer shooters and Kinect, they can go **** themselves next-gen!

huge online game made by the Call of Duty people that is a timed exclusive using cloud features.

Of course its big for them. Maybe not biggest surprise but its up there.

I am sure its big for them but "online only game from EA" doesnt exactly go over well right now ether.

I just hope this wasnt there big show ender announcement or something. Thats all.

So then this isn't that huge considering Microsoft's conference would've been on the 10th. That is unless GI was going to delay release of this issue until after E3?

I guess we'll see on the ninth, would be pretty funny if they didn't even think about that. Though now that the info is already out they might not care.

Their show ender is either this game or some game that tugs at the hearts of gamers (Halo, old Rare property, etc). I can't honestly think of a bigger game to show off than an EA exclusive by the COD guys. GTA5 exclusive?

Hmm, a game where AI minions clash in an open arena while players fight them and each other as giant and powerful units.

so it's FPS Moba then, right?

Nah, it's only pathetic when is done by MS.

Please, if your going to agree at least try and not be passive aggressive.

I don't care what money was spent. I will get to play this on PC if it's good but right now, this is no good whatsoever until we see the meat and potatoes game play.

I have to agree, the Xbox reveal was shit so I can I can understand the negativity surrounding the platform but calling out one for money hatting and deliberately ignoring the others is bullshit. You just watch at e3 with the likes of Final Fantasy.

If you buy exclusivity on a game per game basis it is pathetic but when you buy a third party studio and make it 1st party that is good business?

Setting up or buying out your own studios works if they put out hit after hit (e.g. naughty dog, Bungie) but you could also waste money hand over fist on a studio that put out nothing that sells and you end up shuttering them (e.g. FASA, Rare).

Buying exclusivity costs more per game but you get to see a partly developed game and a full design dock before making the agreement.

Buying the studio outright shows a greater commitment to building a strong first party library though. Just buying exclusives as you go along does nothing to really differentiate your console. MS at one point had Mass Effect as an exclusive for example, where is that franchise at now? Same with Sony and Crash.

The entire reason why people prefer the purchase of a 3rd party studio over just paying for a single exclusive is the financial risk you outline. It makes the 1st party committed to multiple titles and giving the studio some room to make something special. That results in more exclusive games, more creative games, and more diverse experiences across the various platforms.

Just buying one exclusive makes that studio look for something that should sell big numbers regardless of innovation or originality in concept so they can either A. go multi with the next entry and make stupid bank or B. charge even more for the follow up to remain exclusive.

So this is the price EA paid to be part of MS's no used game future? Cool. I love how the developers talk as though exclusivity is their choice. As if EA wouldn't put it on PS3 and PS4 in a hearbeat, without MS's moneyhat. This industry is so pathetic sometimes.

Too bad I'll never play it. No EA and no Xbone -that's my present and future boycott all in one.

Games have had multiplayer bots (or AI) as you call it since the dawn of time

It's not a new idea to have bots, but it's been many a gamedev's dreams to have multiplayer games with lots of ambient ai and bots. Not client-side effects, but fully interactive entities that all players can affect. These scenarios need additional computing, in the form of dedicated servers. Also nothing new. But - when core functionality of the game rests on dedicated servers, you can't also have people offline playing, unless they are missing massive core functionality.

Think of it less like diablo 3 and more like an mmo. Think of gta4 multiplayer - very few pedestrians in mp, if any.

The other part of the xbone's cloud shit is being able to just jump into a game at any time even if you don't have the dlc. And doing away with shitty "title updates", doing them as you play without you knowing.

Wow this looks amazing!

I wonder, it sounds like they are using cloud computing across all of their platforms, yes? And a PS4 version is supposedly coming later. Does that mean MS is making their cloud platform available even to PC and PS4 developers?

If it was a PS4 exclusive this would be 40 pages by now of praise of how Sony can do no wrong this gen.

It's almost fascinating at this point. Been a member for years and have never seen the gaming section like this. It's kinda sad

I'm picking up a PS4 first but I'm sure I'll have an XB1 by the time this launches

I'm surprised to be saying it but this sounds like it could be quite interesting - especially the mirror's edge / left 4 dead / league of legends elements.

Well I'll be on this Day 1 for PC.

No chance I'm missing the first next-gen game from the devs who made what was probabally the most important game of the generation. I hope they really differentiate from CoD.

Also this is the second time they've done this. Former Infinity Ward guys used to be part of 2015 which was the Medal of Honor Allied Assault devs. They've come full circle back to EA.

It always happens around console buying time, people go into purchase justification mode, especially when they have to pick one platform or the other.

Im pretty sure its not entirely exclusive. 6 months to a year most likely. Hey u didn't expect M$ to just roll over when it comes to content right? Nice coup for them but I can wait. No biggie. They are more likely to tempt my purchase with some new platform games.

It is pretty sad just how quickly MS has completely squandered all the good will they built over the first few years of the X360.

Shuttered many 3rd party studios, chased Bungie away when they didn't want to remain a Halo-Haus, pushed Kinect over new games for gamers, and are now trying to ship Kinect in every box, push weaker hardware as a result, have a system that sacrifices gaming horsepower for TV and OS features, and all that with the most obtrusive DRM we've seen on consoles to date.

Shocking might be more appropriate than sad though.

Well I can kind of understand as a lot of people dont want xb1. On the other hand whining about no games and the whining about exclusives is just sad.
