TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

I sit in front of a PC all day. I have a gaming PC for "special case" games like Diablo 3, but 100% of the time if I have a console option, I will take the console option.
Because of course, sitting on your couch playing a console game is entirely different from sitting on your couch playing a big picture mode game.
(To be fair, I never even got this argument before couch PC gaming became a common thing, I guess that's because I don't hate my work in front of a PC!)

They don't see revenue for our purchase of the game on a Windows machine.

They only see revenue from the purchase of the OS.
Pretty much, which is why they want to kill the open distribution of applications.

I'd be willing to bet this is a timed exclusive.

Seems like EA is publishing, so we will likely see a PS4 version sometime after the XB1 version debuts.

Since this is coming to PC, I will just get that version.

Plenty of games like what? Genuinely interested.

Most MMO's or games like Planetside 2 that rely on dedicated servers in general ect.

"The Cloud" is just software that optimises the use of server clusters. It's not something restrictred to the Xbox One nor is it something new, especially on PC. As others put it: cloud computing is platform agnostic.

The new thing is that MS is finally leveraging dedicated servers for MP games on Xbox. That's a huge improvment over the P2P shit of last gen.

Too much good news in the Op, top notch!
District 9, Mechas, 60fps and heavy cloud for enemies IA, man, they better deliver it!

I am genuinely curious, can you name the plenty of games?

Battlefield 3 is a good example.

When you shoot a rocket at a wall the client doesn't calculate the destruction, send it to the server, then send it to the other clients.

The server calculates the destruction and sends it to the connected clients.

All dedicated servers are just PCs running Linux or Windows, Microsoft isn't doing anything new here with the 'Cloud.'

I sit in front of a PC all day. I have a gaming PC for "special case" games like Diablo 3, but 100% of the time if I have a console option, I will take the console option.

And that's the game you choose?

And that's relevant for being 'exclusive' how? I don't own a 360 and won't buy a One but it's still not a PC-exclusive because of that.

anyone excited cause this will have dedicaded servers ? its a nice change and i hope every mp game uses them.

absolutely... it's awesome!

allegedly the dedicated servers that MS is building for live
shhh... they call it the cloud ;)
will give all games dedicated servers for computing and matchmaking and hopefully mp play

Excellent. Been waiting for Respawn's game since day 1. If Microsoft shows a demo on stage during their event this can be huge.

"says the game would be impossible without the cloud and wouldn't have attempted it."

The first of MANY MANY more statements to come.

The entire concept here sounds fantastic, and I'm really interested in seeing if Respawn can pull this off effectively. I'm more interested however, to see how this game looks with the modified and tweaked Source engine. I have yet to see the screenshots for the game, but I can't shake the notion that TitanFall will look a bit dated, especially with the transition into next-gen.

So it is not coming on the PS4 because this game is not possible w/o the cloud power...umm..ok...oh but its coming on the 360 then...hmmm ... yeah sounds more like a money hat exclusive...nothing wrong with that though

Is PC not running windows? You guys are really sticking it to Microsoft buying it on their other platform.

No, you're just sticking it to their shitty Xbox division.

...in favor of their shitty Windows division!

Yup. Its a big part of CoD's draw. I like Halo, but never got into the multiplayer because you had to really shoot somebody a good amount and it was difficult because everybody was jumping around and getting plenty of time to find cover. I understand it makes for a higher skill ceiling, but thats certainly not something newcomers are going to necessarily enjoy.

I wonder if part of that strategy of survival is not only or necessarily how many shots to die but the game itself being bigger and more open and varied in scope allows us more things to do besides just respawn, turn, kill/die .... so there is more interaction with the world and maybe direct firefights happen a little les instantly from respawn time or allowing you to perform other operations (like hacking bots etc) rather than strictly shooting?

Interesting... wasnt' it just weeks ago that many gaffers were saying the "cloud computing" was just fictional PR BS???

"Plan to use Microsoft's Cloud for dedicated servers and physics and AI calculations"

seems to be pretty real... and dare I say... a bit of secret sauce?

I'm not sure how this is suddenly a reason to get a One. LOL it gonna take a shitload more than this to get me even close to purchasing that thing.

KZSF and done as far as shooting is concerned to me.

This is potentially a console war winning game.
Seriously, chill with the hyperbole. Halo wasn't a console war winning game and if this is half the success Halo was EA will port it to the PS4 as soon as the exclusivity deal expires or just go multi with the sequel. That is a huge if by the way. Respawn is a new studio, led by some well established vets but still new, and trying to tackle features multiple other devs have tried and failed to balance well. Let's see some gameplay before our dicks get too stiff with excitement.

yes that will happen when a company puts hardware (dedicated compute servers) and software (API's) in the hands of devs on a new console and says here is the support ... now go create

I might check this out for PC, going to wait for footage. I still need to buy KZ3 used before I'd jump on KZSF.

If COD:MW had been actually exclusive it would have been a console war winning game. Respawn has the capability to repeat that magic.

I guess this is pretty obvious with all the mentions of cloud use, but the line that caught my eye most was "blurs the line between competitive multiplayer and single player". So, it's probably gonna be always on, similar to Watch_Dogs. First game that makes me think about whether or not it's worth it.

Also, you would think that they wouldn't say shit like "wouldn't have been possible without the cloud". Since there's a PC version that I'm assuming doesn't use the cloud (unless XBLG4PC becomes a thing), it either means that they're lying to pull some MS PR fluffery, or that the Xbone is so underpowered there's no way they could get this running at all straight out the box.

Well, when it comes to shooters, it is. You ever tried to use a mouse and keyboard sitting on a La-Z-Boy? It sucks. Playing something like CoD on PC with a controller is asinine, as you will get rocked.

CoD took years to build up its name and now it sells on that alone. Respawn would need to do a lot of things right to even get close to those type of numbers. We havent even seen this thing in motion yet so lets relax a bit. This game might be very good, it might be okay and it might be a turd, who knows. Also, this sounds like a timed exclusive so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say its not a system winning game.

So here's the exclusivity mention: They thought working on PS4, Xbox One and PC would prove too difficult for a small team, so they decided to focus on one console instead of two. (er...). "Not to say we won't [go multiplatform] in the future, but for our first game we wanted to focus on making the best game we could."
So what they're saying is PS4 is going to get a superior version 6 months-1 year later.

Microsoft already busting out them fireworks.

And there were so many that thought Microsoft wouldn't go for the first installments of the promising new franchises.
