I feel this is something that could be done within the context of the world. The time skips both ways detach me from the experience and moment to highlight authorial ineptitude of a lousy director who can't do what needs to be done within the allotted time on an episode by episode basis and over the span of the series as a whole. So much more could have been done with thirteen episodes that when the conclusion amounts to little more than an allusion more will come the show just won't leave a very big impression on me.
Given how many adaptations that I've watched that have sped through plot for the sake of speeding through plot - Photokano being the worst offender this season - I honestly appreciated that the show could just take the time to be still. I don't see this as bad pacing or wasting time, but deliberately setting mood and tone - something that a director of an hour long drama would do without a second thought - which is almost why I think it's even more astounding that they were allowed to do what they did with what amounts to a throwaway anime in (I presume) a throwaway timeslot meant only for otaku.

Kasuga
reading the diary and seeing his reaction
was all the satisfaction I needed for the finale. It was enough closure for me without even seeing the second half of the episode yet. I can see why someone wouldn't like how a good chunk of the episode is
a flashback and an extended preview.
But from the chase and on, it felt like a cathartic release and a good note to end on.

Maybe the excitement of what has happened and what could unfold with that tease got to me though.
If they had to "arc" the series in that way, Kasuga and Nakamura
finally understanding each other is probably the perfect place to end the story.
You could theoretically end the series there as well and it'd probably work.

Clannad 10

Argh, I can't take this anymore. This lazy and uninspired direction with amateur writing is killing me. I don't think I can put up with it just to get another episode 9 type of climax. It just doesn't seem worth it. Plus I don't know, they are focusing on other girls beside Fuko now? What the hell is the point in watching the show then?

I think I will go and tackle other shows in my backlog and maybe come back to this later.

DTL is allllllllllllllllllllllll over that.

With how some of the scenes in the anime, No. 6, enhanced those that were in the source material, it is going to be pretty exciting to see what can be brought to the table for Gundam. Anyway the characters do look great especially red hair and blue hair and I like the lead Gundam design, what looks to be some type of wing portion, and beam sword, certainly a great start to gundam design.

The point of Clannad is to introduce the characters and get you ready for After Story. The first series drags after Fuko's arc but it gets better the closer you get to After Story. To be fair, After Story also focuses on side-stories a little, but only near the beginning and only like two episode each, max. There are still a few build ups in the first series though.

(Possible spoilers on the structure of the series)
These may be a fairly obvious, "well duh" post. Sorry. :p

One of the issues adding to the show dragging is the source material vs. the medium of a show, imo. There are more than just Nagisa's arc in the VN and they want to sorta appease the fans of the source material, but unless you more directly involve her in the stories of the other girls, the other arcs take away from the overall story being about Nagisa. And you can't really involve her too much if the overall story of the series is about the romance between her and Tomoya if the other girls getting arcs and they focus on the potential romance there. That's kinda why Fuko's arc works (because she's not really put in the spotlight as a romantic interest) and Kotomi's kinda doesn't, imo. And I think the writers realized that too somewhat, making Kotomi's arc shorter than Fuko's and not giving arcs to Kyou/Ryou and Tomoyo (and rather sacrifice length and give them alternate reality OVA episodes). The same thing applies to the three short side character arcs in After Story too. This, of course, assumes that your interest in the series lies with or can be re-fit to enjoy the romance between Nagisa and Tomoya. If you heart got stolen by Fuko and Nagisa just doesn't matter at all to you as a view, then yes, the show will probably drag for you even after Kotomi's arc.

Well after 10 episodes I have to say I'm hooked. I really enjoy these characters a lot, their personality just struck a chord with me. I can't believe I'm enjoying this show, this must be what the bronies feel like when watching MLP.

Dog and Scissors

It wasn't a very good first episode to say the least. I'm going to give it another episode or two to see if my opinion on the show changes, only because I'm a big Inoue Marina fan.

Dog & Scissors - Episode 1

It's not as bad as I was expecting it to be, actually I might give it another episode. I'm more interested in how there going to pull off an anime with a dog as the protagonist in this kind of setting. I don't know why but I get a romance vibe coming from this show, if it is then that will be quite interesting. The dog he is does look adorable and his comebacks to the girl were pretty good.

Not impressed but will give it another episode.

Apparently Age wasn't enough.

Bandai/Sunrise want to hook children into Gundam, because they know that if they fail to capture a younger audience the franchise doesn't have a long-term future. So their approach is understandable.

At any rate, Sunrise mentioned that Origin and Tomino's G-Revo are still coming, so older Gundam fans have those to look forward to.

I am not opposed to a slow and measured pace but I rarely found Aku no Hana's slower moments to be deliberate enough to warrant their existence. The lingering shots lacked substance, and I never felt like my understanding of the characters or the world depicted grew in these moments. Maybe if the cinematography was stronger my perception of the pacing in Aku no Hana would be different, but its not. It lacks focus or purpose. I'm not even sure the failings in this area are even subjective when the feeble time filling meandering is often regurgitated content. The only thing the show is "deliberately" doing is covering for its lack of genuine or interesting content. There is a happy medium between a show rushing through the plot and wallowing in some mire of nothingness.

I'm having a breakdown over that Gundam conference. Fuck everything :(

While we don't see eye to eye on every show, I agree that another kids oriented series focusing on the most blatant toy selling scheme ever is not how I was hoping the series would go.

NANAMI GIRL NANAMI 31

Touga looks like a girl in the shower. Nanami watches her brother take showers. Japan. Touga's cell, though, looks like something my dad had in the mid nineties. I'd ask where the banana peel came from, but the simplest answer is that the peel simply came into being right as Nanami stepped on it, its one wish, to serve as a comedic prop, swiftly fulfilled, it simply returned to the heavenly compost heap from whence it came.

Being Nanami is suffering. Anthy actually was the banana peel, which explains how she utterly vanished in this scene. Also, why doesn't Nanami ever get in trouble for her outfit when Utena does?

I want to say that most girls would not get lovesick for their brothers no matter how cool, but since
apparently there is some kind of incest going on there
it becomes much harder to refute Nanami's claims. And that's without mentioning Miki and Kozue.

Oh fuck no. I know that this nonsense about
Nanami and Touga not being blood related
is not serious. Nobody in their right minds would fucking recommend me a show that stooped that low, right? Right? I KNOW it isn't true because nobody here would tell me how great this show was if it did some stupid, trite bullshit like that, right?

Right.

Rule 34 and also Tsuwabuki getting cock blocked. Oh, poor Tsuwabuki. Some day. Probably after puberty.

Well this entire episode just happened. Fuck

Contrary to what you might expect, Nanami is not that kind of girl. :p

I just take the reused cuts to be money-saving shortcuts as a result of anime being anime. Given how crappy most anime looks, my I just automatically forgive that stuff as a necessity of producing anime for television broadcast.

Besides, this is a show about an emo kid wallowing in his emotional baggage. It's not something I'd want to have "brisk" pacing.

Why do I keep getting incest shows when I ask for recs, though? Like I was like "rec me a good show" and I got "everybody wants to fuck their brother and also some roses" and "rec me a good mecha show" and I got "british people want to fuck their siblings and also giant robot boobs" and I was like "rec me a good love story" and I got "these people are like a decade apart and also siblings."

suuuuuuuspiiiiiiciooooooous.

Perhaps there are as many good anime with incest as there are bad anime with incest.

To be fair Utena doesn't paint incest in a positive light.

Photo Kano 13

Not even mad they pulled the non-related card.

Photo Kano has already been such a let down after it proved they could not adapt six girls routes all into single episodes for each. Niimi's part was the only one that felt like they developed some connection leading to the confession, making it the one I would actually say was good. Still think this show should have just followed that two episode format, even if they had to cut out some of the girls to do so.

Most disappointing show of the season for me.
haven't been watching much but I agree.
after starting kimikiss recently im starting to think Amagami was a huge fluke.

I am not asking for it to be brisk, but I strongly believe every shot and move is important. Aku no Hana does not. It feels lousy and amateurish in a way that isn't even interesting or evocative.

Detective Conan 238:

Otaki is none too impressed with Kogorou. Of course, his deductions here are even worse than usual. "Bandou-san"? Really? Kazuha also trolls the fuck out of Kogorou the whole time, which is hilarious. Then again, it's hard for any scene with Kazuha to not be amazing, so there's always that going for it.

It's nice to see Conan getting excited, but it's also a shame since obviously
meeting his hero isn't going to work out so well in this instance.
The anime staff did a good job of having an ominous ending with Heiji's inner thoughts. Kazuha immediately assuming Heiji is having an affair was also really funny, especially given what's actually going on.
