Reasons for concern when it comes to the PS4......

Just to chime in - the download speeds of the PSN Store have always been excellent for me. Maybe it's because I am in mainland Europe, maybe due to something else.

The rest of OP's nagging is just sad. Who the fuck cares about Microsoft now selling you achievements instead of implementing them in games?

For me, it varies. It depends on the day/time of the day.

These are your reasons for not buying the PS4, yet issues like a $100 price increase, notably less power, and mandatory kinect do not offend you?

These are obviously examples of Microsoft thinking forward always ensuring that the basics are done right.

I feel pretty confident that the chip wich download stuff to your PS4 while in standby-mode will have pretty high priority to download new store-items icons and such stuff.
So I think that it's pretty safe to assume that the store will act much faster than on PS3 where you download those during the session. :)

All those mean nothing or simply dont effect me at all, i get blistering download speeds on psn, i dont and will never want to change my psn id and my tv isnt a mirror. If that is your list i can dwarf it with my list for xboxone. I hope they fix them for you but they seem like none issues to me i must admit.

4. I think the power of the PS4 can handle a modernized Store interface. Speed isn't the issue, hopefully they get usability right though.
If Sony hasn't ever got useability right - what makes one think that suddenly now can? This is the biggest thing I don't get. "Oh, it'll be better this time". I own a Ps3 and 360 and the usability of PS3, in particular the brand new store, sending invites, messaging, etc. is atrocious. Its not even close.

Microsoft has been working on this infrastructure for a long time and they keep getting better at it. Sony has so much to prove here - and the (awful) PS4 interface preview vid looks like they still have lots of work to do.

It take about the same amount of time to send messages on ps3 and 360 for me. I also think ms have went backwards with design and useabilty over the different versions of the dash and store.

I think the newer PS Store is nicely organized and looks quite good. The problem is that it just runs like a dog. Slow to launch, slow to animate and navigate. Almost feels as if it were made for a more powerful system than what its running on oddly enough. If it ran properly it would be quite nice I think?

Well considering you can start playing a game while it is still downloading should this even be a concern?
Well say I'm doing what the guy in the PS4 OS video is doing - downloading and installing Killzone multiplayer so I can join a friend that I'm chatting with. How long is that process going to take before I can jump in?

I know for certain when it comes to 360 games that a full install never takes more than 10 minutes (per disk). Just wondering how much things are improved on PS4.

Why is PS4 in the title when you address the PS3 on more of half your points?
Because the PS3 experience is a known baseline. We don't know how much has been improved or to what extent.

Its no different than people presuming that the Xbone will have the 360's user experience as a baseline.

And I like how putting tape on the Playstation 4 light bar is a perfectly accepted means of rectifying an issue, while applying the same logic for the XB1's Kinect is seen as some type of insurmountable task.
Yes, and they both have numerous people complaining that these are insufficient workarounds. Congratulations, I think you've cracked the code.

This might sound dumb, but if they do not fix the light bar issue I will not purchase a ps4. I will put tape over it if it is allowed, but if it must remain exposed I just cant do it. Having a blue light reflecting off of my screen, moving around and causing a distraction is unacceptable. I take great pains to ensure I have zero glare on my television, It is something I personally cannot tolerate. I would rather put up with sneaky DRM than a damn light floating around on my television when I am playing games.

Up until I saw photos of the lightbar reflecting on screens and how distracting it would be I was PS4 all the way. I am not sure now...

Inviting someone into a multiplayer party should not require to give a reason.

These invites are usually time limited. Who the fuck takes the time to write a paragraph to compel someone else to join a multiplayer party. You either accept or not based on if you have time and feel like it. Nobody is swayed by some Nigeria 419 plea in the text body of an invite.

If someone doesn't want to join, he will either ignore it or send a very short message back that they have no time. (Even if they have time.) ;-)

No, putting tape over something you own is illegal. I think you might be allowed to if you don't use the Sony network servers but otherwise they will sue you for using tape to hack PSN.

I dont understand i accept and send invites on both systems the same. I invite my friend they accpet and join on both systems?.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

/smh.

That's a PS EYE game. That's not a reflection. The aliens follow the controller or something.
And do you seriously think in a bright room like that, a few dimmed leds will have such a huge reflection? Aint a flash light, yo. It'll reflect as much as your Xbox 360 green LED reflects at the moment.

The only time tape should come up is when referring to taping your flashlight to your gun in Doom 3, crafting in The Last of Us, or when slapping two gamecubes together.

Otherwise it's bullshit.

Yes. That is the overall purpose of the invite system.

The time it takes to load the various menus and the steps it takes to invite someone can vary based on the implementation.

I begin to think the Xbox One might just be the one I buy first.

None of the complaints in this thread seem to justify this statement. If you consider these issues so major as to counter all of the positives on the PS4 side of the fence then I think your priorities are straight up fucked up.

i laughed at that list. those are all minor concerns. number one concern for me it the quality of the games and the controller and it seems like they have those in the bag.

Exactly, if you dont have the camera it wont have anyway of knowing if its taped over or coloured in with a black marker. Some people are make issue of something that isnt there, if i look hard enough i can see the xbox button lit up on my tv in pitch black room it doesnt bother me at all.

They both take the same amount of time for me, i press the home button and accept or if the game has built in invites lists i accept it in there on both machines.

If my experience mirrored yours that both taking equally long, then my conclusion would be that both are subpar and need to improve.

They really do, games with built in invites are faster on both like bf3, you press the button go to messages and accept the only time its faster on xbox is if i manage to catch the pop up.

As someone who has used a Move controller with flatscreen TV for a couple of years now, I totally agree - there's really not any reason to bring up tape here. It's a non-issue.

Seriously, you don't notice it unless you are looking for it.

I even dug up some videos of people playing with the Move on Youtube, and could see the ball reflection on the screen. Nobody ever complained about this... until now.

Makes you wonder...

Hey guys, remember how the PS3's online infrastructure didn't improve at all beyond what was on PS2? Oh wait, that didn't happen, did it?

They are more than just trivial to a lot of us.

If these issues are deal breakers, then they are deal breakers. That's why there are 3 console choices plus PC available to you. Some people think this list is trivial, and some don't. Luckily there are other purchasing options for you.

Honestly I feel I'm living in an alternate but slightly crazier dimension seeing people assume the light of the bar would be that bad.

Why not base the baseline off the Vita's experience, given it's newer hardware then the ps3 and solves a lot fo the issues that the ps3 had?

If he did that, he would only be left with the lightbar (and super-trivial stuff). Wouldn't make for much of a conversation, would it?

First, that is clearly the reflection of the light bar. Second, tell me what other systems you think I own. Third, the 360 light is on the face of the controller and does not face the television; therefore, no reflection.

Those lights dont look so dim.

We don't need to go there. Putting the lightbar on the primary controller that'll be in every box instead of an optional peripheral that hasn't sold particularly well obviously raises the prominence of the feature and any possible concerns. Most people just don't have the personal experience to know how much of a non-issue this really is.

Clockwork5 said:

They don't look any brighter than the Move controller. The camera is over-exposing for generally dim conditions making the lightbar look brighter than it is. And that's also why the reflections seem so noticeable in the vid. It really isn't that noticeable under normal conditions.
