Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Sweet. An entire thread about sticks. These work well with XBLA arcade games besides fighters?

Sure, SHMUPs (Guwange, Ikaruga), classic platformers (MegaMan 9), arcade ports (Final Fight: Double Impact). There is ton of good stuff on XBLA that works well with a stick. Basically anything that doesn't touch the right stick, and that maps the d-pad and the left stick to the same controls (implying no alternate controls on the dpad and digital not analog movement) will work.

Also you'll get some retail games (outside of the expected Fighters / SHMUPs) that use digital control that work well with them. Rayman Origins is fantastic on a stick for instance.

Regarding the MadCatz Korean stick I'm not that interested in a Korean stick myself, but I love how those battops look, wonder if they can be put on a Japanese stick.

I really like the look of that Korean stick :)

Also, is there a thread similar to this one about arcade cabinets, parts, pcbs, etc. for a beginner to thumb through? What and where to buy from, etc.

For the Mad Catz Arcade FightStick KE, it is a Crown CWJ-303A with Sanwa OBSF-30-O buttons.

For the PS3 version, it's a black SE case with a black Crown stick. For the Xbox 360 version, it's a white SE case with a white Crown stick.

If anyone has questions, let me know. Pricing and release date, TBA soon.

Why is Hori so slow in releasing stuff? Plus their U.S management is so poor. Now would be a good time to release that white stick.

I wouldn't say their US management is poor, it's just not the business focus for them. The white Fighting Edge is still coming out this year.

I'd love a thread like that. I have 3 arcade cabs and bringing in a 4th one. So yeah I'd love to talk/chat.

Do it MarkMan!

I was trying to get one started but I suck at OTs. Just lack computer skills and links and pics get all jacked.

I've got a few more cabs arriving in the next month or two.

I've been wanting to get a fight stick recently, but I need to know a good one that works on 360, PS3 and PC. Any suggestions?
Qanba Q4RAF is your best bet. I just got one, myself.

$150 for an aesthetically pleasing, solidly built, dualmodded stick with a great felt bottom and a handy carrying handle. Easy to mod too!

Got my Arcade Stick a little early today. This thing feels amazing! So glad I upgraded from my Tekken 6 stick.
Glad you like it! If you ever need another stick, you know I'll be selling 'em in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread as always :)
I shot you a PM because I didn't know if you were happy or not, but glad it's working out good for you.

Yeah as stated above, Qanba Q4RAF is your best bet at this point.

also posted in the Neo Geo appreciation thread. This is what I did for lunch today lol, but it's more like every day.

I'm starting to keep my beater Namco in my trunk at all times. It is the best travel stick, period. The paint that was starting to come off the control panel was irritating me, so I just chipped off all the paint that was loose. I have basically 3 or 4 Namcos that are ready to be gutted and completely reworked. Anyone have any experience painting or possibly powder coating that type of plastic?

Need an arcade stick for a PC not really sure where to begin. Everything seems to be out of stock here in the UK and not sure what will work on the PC. All the Mad Catz seem quite expensive. Anything I need to look for when buying for a PC?

Here are a few in stock. I've never actually owned a stick before so I don't think I need to best of the best, don't really play fighting games that often, but I would still like something other than a controller to play with. If I had to choose from those or something else that can be found in the UK where do I begin. I would prefer not to have to spend £100.

Street Fighter Vs. Tekken Arcade Fight Stick PRO - Cross (Xbox 360)
Soul Calibur Fight Stick - Xbox Licensed (Xbox 360)
Datel Arcade Pro Joystick (PS3/Xbox 360/PC)
Hori Officially Licensed Fighting Stick Mini 3 (PS3)
Hori Officially Licensed Real Arcade Pro VX SA

This one

and this one

look good.

Since you're looking for a PC stick, I suggest going with an Xbox 360 stick for the easiest setup and best compatibility. They're plug and play and the latest drivers are on Windows Update.

Thank you! I will look into the Hori one since its a bit cheaper, every little counts.

Really annoying that most shops got rid of stock a long time ago and sold these for £50-60 and now the ones that still have stock sell it for double.

I would honestly wait. The Street Fighter one is damn good.

I noticed that the Soul Calibur one is the same price as the HORI and I believe it is of similar quality to the Street Fighter one.

My Qanba Q4RAF doesn't work with PS2 games on my PS3. :(

I had read that this was a possibility, but I was hoping that it wasn't true. Supposedly some of the earlier Q4 models worked, and the new ones don't.

Just ordered a Qanba Q4RAF to replace my modded Hori FS3. Will take a couple of weeks, but I'm looking forward to it. Already considering artwork to replace with.

Good choice. Just mind the post above you regarding PS2 games and don't get rid of your Hori stick if you ever plan on playing PS2 games on your PS3.

Does anyone know if a Crown stick will fit in a Mad Catz SE?

I've been meaning to upgrade the parts in my TvC stick, and thought I'd give the Korean stick a shot since I like bat tops anyway.

I know MC has shown what looks like a SE with a K stick, but I didn't know if it was the same. Seems like it might be a tight fit.

My Hori WRAP is in New York so I should have it monday!

Pretty stoked to check it out. I'm gonna open it and see what it looks like inside.

It's pretty tight in my TE, so you might have to cramp.

I'm holding off on buying any more sticks because of that 'the next generation doesn't support your old stick' business, but man I'm tempted by this thread.

Got my WRAP in. I've not been able to figure out how to pair it as I don't read japanese but I'm sure I'll figure it out shortly.

I'm guessing I'm probably one of the few who are actually very excited for this stick. I love the idea of using it on my Go for Tate Shmups. It is also way cool that it can either be wireless or wired.

Cosmetically, it is like a Kai (same style glossy faceplate) but does not have the foam bottom. Not sure about the spacing as they all seem the same to me...but seems farther apart than my others...so like the Kai, I'm guessing.

Color scheme is fantastic. Black and blue and the high-gloss finish is very stunning in person. Another finger-print magnet, for sure.

Pics of the stick...and then the different internal PCBs/Battery:

They are the same body so they should work fine.

Nice WRAP!! I hope Hori USA has plans to release that but I guess they will prioritize the white Fighting Edge and the new RAP model.

Well there is always room for imagination and capability but as of now, it's vague to consider the definite possibilities until down the line after the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases. I won't be surprised if the modding game will go back to hacking proprietary controllers/stick PCBs to existing sticks. Custom PCBs with the compatibility might not happen for a while but who knows?

Got my WRAP in.

awesome stuff man, now I don't have to buy it haha. and yeah it does seem to be the same Kai layout.

don't you just hook it up to the ps3 to pair it?

still not a fan of that VX/V3 HRAP mold tbh haha.

---

i'm holdin' out for the White FE myself, I just finished (sort of) my 1L6B HSS-0130, so i'm pretty much ran out of things to mod, and more time to actually use the sticks haha.

idk if this was answered earlier, but is there a way to loosen up the joystick of an arcade stick. I have a qanba so its a sanwa stick.

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Modded my stick the other week for the first time

Was a hassle but (besides the orange button) everything looks great. Have mixed feelings about the circle gate. It's great for games like tekken, but I am having a hell of a time adjusting for street fighter. It feels so weird to do quarter circle and half circle moves in comparison to a square gate stick. But I love the bat, should have replaced my ball top on my other stick a long time ago but eventually the diagonals stopped functioning properly. Is there any way to salvage it or is it pretty much dead weight?

And with the old buttons from my TE, I ended up sticking in my old Tatsunoko stick so now it's got some quality parts (that and one of the buttons was only responding half the time).

Can either use the shit out of it or get a looser spring for it. Or stretch the spring that's already in there. But a looser spring will make it a bit worse at returning to neutral so don't go too loose.

Whoah...

That two player stick... please tell me what the deal is? I want one of those!

EDIT: Ohhh... these are for actual cabs, I guess. :-( Would be great if these were made for non-cab use as well.

Seems like the only 2 player stick out there is the Xarcade Tankstick, but that uses American style Happ knockoff sticks and buttons. Is there no similar 2 player stick with JPN gear? I guess there isn't.

What would you guys recommend as a decent entry level stick for 360/PC?

I'm in the UK and seems a lot of stuff hard to find, but this has got not terrible reviews. The only other one I've seen new for less than £100 is the Madcatz Soul Calibur stick, but don't know if I want to invest that much just yet.

I guess reduce the resistance of it moving.
The throw of a joystick - that is, the distance it travels from a neutral position to any direction, indicated by the click sound of a microswitch - is generally very small. Do you feel that the throw is too wide on your stick, or that you need to apply a lot of force onto the stick in order for a direction to register? Sanwa JLFs are generally very sensitive.

I absolutely adore the SCV stick. It may be expensive compared to a pad, but it's maybe the cheapest high end stick.

And it's so good. A bit smaller than an old TE, or a HRAP, but still heavy. Increased storage compartment for the cord too. I loooove this controller.

not the distance, but how fast it moves. I think sixteen bit and notworksafe answered the question for me

Hmmm so it's definitely worth the investment then.

I've been having a look around and have seen this one too for the same price. Not sold anywhere else that I can see so looks like an import or something but it has the street fighter layout as default, so I wouldn't have to mod it. Anyone have any experience with this one?
