Japanese newspaper rumor: redesigned Vita unveiling just before TGS

Why haven't they tackled the biggest problem with the device which is storage? Hope those are not all of the details. Trying to tackle the phablet market isn't going to fix that brand or save the Vita as is.

I was waiting for this. But if the screen is not OLED, I'm gonna buy the first edition.

Isn't making a cheaper Vita a better idea though?

- smaller screen
- maybe LCD
- cheaper materials
- SD cards

they could do a soft relaunch (but yeah, without new games it wouldn't do shit...)

a bit OT..is it as easy to run emulators on the Vita as on the PSP?

Cause if they fix that shitty analog stick I might get one. I think I finished more SNES games on the PSP than PSP games.

They're making it bigger!?

Why?

Why not? It's not like you can carry of those system in your pocket anyway. And as the Micro has shown nothing is more shitty than a handheld with a tiny screen.

If this is true and they will go with Android dualboot, there isn't any need anymore of hacking the Vita because you can get the emulators on the Android part of the device.

RIGHT?

My thoughts on Sony's plan if the rumor is true...

- The current Vita would remain available for awhile as the true portable option as long as it is profitable and people are buying it, even in niche numbers.

- The new model would be heavily marketed as the PS4's little brother.

- I can see the new model being sold for $230, and the OG model being sold for $200.

- The increase in screen size is a great excuse to space out the d-pad and face buttons from the analog sticks (too close currently), as well as increase the size of the tiny buttons

- I think that the reason for the RAM increase is not obvious yet with current apps. I think that future apps dictate this improvement, mainly the Vita's ability to remote play a PS4 game can stay in memory at the same time you are playing a native Vita game. That way, you can easily switch back and forth between them even while your music app or Skype, etc. are still up and running,

Checking Japanese news blogs and this is incredibly fishy. Tokyo Keizai Newspaper doesn't exist, and if it's assumed the source is supposed to be the Keizai (business) section of Tokyo Newspaper, there's nothing about this at all. Literally all the sources on Japanese sites are pointing back to this NeoGAF thread as the source. Completely false rumor IMO.

Welp that's that

I still think there will be a revision though as its the only way to meet that shipment projection

What exactly are the black stains from?

It's a problem many people experienced on vita, when the screen is pitch black or very dark you may notice those inky black stains, iirc it's called mura effect and has to do with the manufacturing of the oled screen.

Pretty disturbing imho for a device that costs that much.

Can it use SD cards, though?

Edit: Because if it can, I'm beyond sold.

Not happening. It will never happen.

The whole point of the current memory card situation is not exactly Sony's fault in it's entirety from what I have read. Developers and publishers are worried about piracy.

Vita only needs a video output.

And I think that the 3-3.5M shipment forecast, while still optimistic, suggests that they aren't planning anything significantly more drastic than a Western price cut and a few more bundles, if that. But we'll see soon enough.

The Vitablet is an interesting move. I'll be very interested to see how the market reacts. I imagine the West will like it more than Japan, though.

A Vita xl is what i've been thinking of for a long time. Japanese gamers don't like home console anymore, but it doesn't mean portable are the only future. There must be some middle ground somewhere.

A larger Vita with a video output could be what the WiiU is trying to be.

People. Let me reiterate.

The cited source doesn't exist. There's no Tokyo Keizai newspaper in Japan.

This rumor is 99% a lemon.

I seriously doubt this, 6.3 is the size of the Wii U gamepad screen, in other words, this thing would be a gigantic brick. It wouldn't really be a portable system anymore, it barely is now.

But Note 2 is a smartphone without any sticks, buttons and advanced hardware like Vita has so that point is moot

The device obviosly is going to have a very different layout from the WiiU gamepad and I don't see why it should be " a gigantic brick". Actually, if they are able to get rid of the actual bezel around the screen, I believe the increase of external dimension respect the current model could be absolutly minimal

Nihon Keizai Shimbun (日本経済新聞), a leading economic newspaper.
That's the Nikkei newspaper, which isn't the same as Tokyo Keizai Shinbun (which doesn't exist). There's nothing in the Nikkei about this and every Japanese site I've seen this news on cites back to this thread as the source.

I don't understand why they would do this, the only thing that makes sense is releasing it as a gamepad accessory for the ps4. Because all sense of portability is pretty much thrown out the window.

With that said do most gamers who are getting a PS4 even want a gamepad for their console? I thought the majority of gamers seen it as a gimmick?

This is assuming this is true

A Google shows that there's a University under that name, and they likely have their own newspaper. But no way they'd have info like that there so it's definitely fake.

It'd be an attractive feature for the few of us who have Vitas already. Beyond that, though, I doubt most people are going to care. The whole remote play push, coupled with their piss poor sales projections, tell me that they've pretty much given up on the Vita being any more than a niche device.

That's the main reason I don't buy into this rumor. Apart from it being fucking stupid, a new, MORE expensive redesign would suggest a level of commitment Sony doesn't have for the device.

Sounds like Sony doesn't have any idea what they should do with the platform so they're just making a VitaXL

Now that phones are getting bigger screens than the Vita it wouldn't be surprising. A sliding form wouldn't have to be any longer or wider than the latest Xperia.

Oh no. I will probably be double dipping then. ;_; I love my Vita, if a sexier version is coming out I won't be able to resist.

Has this newspaper reported rumors before?

I just read an article saying the source of this info isnt reliable...

www.dualshockers.com/2013/08/18/new...tands-on-weak-legs-cited-source-doesnt-exist/

From link:

"The biggest strike in disfavor of the credibility of
the rumor, though, is simply the fact that a
newspaper named “Tokyo Keizai ” does not exist.
That’s the name of a private university in Tokyo.
There’s a website with that name (Shortened
“ToKei”) but it shows no trace of the rumor, and
a newspaper named Nihon Keizai Shimbun , but
it’s definitely not the same thing . There’s also a
S hukan Toyo Keizai (“Toyo”, not “Tokyo”), but
that’s not a newspaper. It’s a weekly magazine."
