Somehow I didn't notice the Rozen Maiden OT until now, but I just wanted to congratulate Branduil on the fantastic choice of thread title.

Well Smile Precure also had a small moment where they were in Mongolia in the plains as well. I should probably take a little bit of time to go read up on the country instead of getting my only impressions of the country through anime, cause that would just be wrong.
Well especially not having your perception being shaped by TOEI anime of all things. (Research is hard for them)

I don't wanna!
You mistake.

Carriers don't always follow the most efficient route for delivery.
When talking about logistics, efficiency has a different meaning for the carriers than you'd guess. Shipping something from California may well be cheaper for them than putting it on a truck for ~50 miles to get to you. (that truck probably only having 2-3 packages postage being too low to cover wages/gas.)

Love Lab 8

"The Mild One" and Suzu's various insecurities/athletic inabilities were definitely the highlights of the episode. I hope the ending isn't gonna lead to more of the cringeworthy drama from a couple episodes ago.

oh and the blackface stuff was really fucking dumb and i'm glad it didn't last for long

Its called ganguro style. It literally stands for "black face" but its more like a heavily tanned dark look. Its not racist.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganguro

Other part of Ganguro is the bleached hair, one that's heavily associated with the style. Soul Singing is also not part of Ganguro. The face can be a style. The problem with associating with what happend in Love Lab as Ganguro is that there's other elements that makes you think black first, ganguro later (the soul singer part, aka the part that made me laugh like mad).

Yeah, it's possible. Whenever I order something from Amazon, for instance, they ship it FedEx and it completely bypasses Cincinnati, goes to the FedEx Smartpost drop-off center in Columbus, and comes back to Cincinnati via USPS. It's slow and shitty and my packages routinely miss their ETAs.

This is a bit weird seeing as I normally get packages very quickly regardless of where theyre shipped from. They usually take very direct routes here from Houston, cali, or Chicago.

More interested in Rozen Maiden after watching Episode 2 (that first one was a mess, someone here explained me that they did it that way so they could move faster as this is not a new series but they really went too far).

Love Club is still fun, just watched 6.

[Space Battleship Yamato 2199]: 1 - 8

Yamato2199-1.jpg

I had been deliberately avoiding the existence of this series for sometime because I knew that the final volume wasn't out but I recently decided to bite the bullet because I needed to get some Space-series into my life.

2199 is an odd beast of a series. It's mainly a direct remake of the original series, which I had found to be rather dry and boring, but it's been updated for the post-Battlestar Galacticca generation. In practical terms that the series is slightly more gritty and 'realistic' without being especially grim, which is a fairly thin line to tread given the material of the story e.g. Yamato is the last help of an Earth that's been almost completely destroyed. Still, the series (so far) hasn't really lingered on how terrible the situation for the Earth is, as a modern title would do, and instead it remains a sense of almost naive optimism that is far more reminiscent of the 70's original.

Another sign of the Battlestar Galacticca-ising of the series comes in the increased focus on the Yamato's fighter planes whose pilots now include a plucky women and who are all given their mission briefings in a room straight out of Battlestar. However, as I mentioned earlier the series is an odd beast because all these elements from elsewhere are then portrayed through the same kind of lens you'd expect in anime which means that although the show now features a greatly expanded cast of female characters (compared to the originals sole female) a large number of them are in love with the main character and they nearly all have large breasts and wear skintight latex suits where men somehow get away with normal clothing.

Most of the time the 'anime' part of the series, by which I mean: stupid fanservice, silly character gags, inappropriate frivolities and unlikely cosplay doesn't distract from the series main strengths. It's a nearly pure science fiction action series with an extremely optimistic world view which is not the kind of series you see made anymore. Hell, there's an episode where the ship gets chased by a giant ball of intelligent gas which is something right out of Star Trek. The show really excels at this level - there's exciting space battles, tense action, surprisingly understated characterization (in parts), cracking pacing and a great sense of adventure and wonder. Given all the great things that 2199 brings to the table I can ignore the 5% "anime nonsense" and even the CG spaceships (which aren't actually that bad) to get the chance to watch a great, classic sci-fi series.

Goto episodes are the best. This was not only revealing of his inscrutable character, but also hilarious.

They really are. You'll have to wait awhile to get to the most amazing one as it's in the final set of OVA's.
The only Gundam show with a worse artstyle is probably Seed and that's due to Hirai faces. This is an ugly show.

I don't understand hating on ∀ Gundam's art style, it's got excellent and unique designs for nearly all the mechas in the show as well as the characters themselves. It doesn't always look that good because Sunrise were clearly in transition between cell and digital but for the most part but it's a cool looking series.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Senki Zesshou Symphogear episode 11
this show is so bad, that its good, chief is the best character in the show, his character makes no sense and he knows it.

Series Composition/Script: Jin Kanada
Animation Producer: Yoshihiro Oyabu (BONES C Studio)
Animation Production: BONES

Brb, cutting myself, then drowning myself, then hanging myself. RIP.

The episode wasnt as good as the trailer? Disappointing, I was hyped even :(

Just be glad your order didn't have to go through Paris. I'm convinced the FedEx route through Paris goes through the city's catacombs or a black hole or something, because more than once I've had experiences like this:

iFxGIUZKPszey.png

Ah it goes both ways ..

When a fedex order goes trought paris , even I, a french resident have problems ( and usually i have more taxes to pay for some reasons ?

One time i was called by the friend customs because of a anime figurine ... confused i sent them by mail the order details and 2 days later i was called again asking what was in the box . Again confused because i was unable to explain to the guy what was an anime figurine ( he wasn't understanding the concept of an anime figurine , true story ) i was forced to send him a picture of te fig by email ...

and you know what ? that ******* of [redacted] send the fig back to japan ...

That was better. Still not the prettiest but better. I also really hate the way they use the boat explosion scene as an OP of sort. Kinda lazy.
OK fight. Though the look kinda lets it down.

Google Michael Phelp body, those athlete just look weird. The "problem" of Free's design is they took sample from olympic swimmer for high school character.

I'm well aware of what swimmers look like, and they don't resemble that. I think that they appear so muscular, as to look like caricatures. Proportionally, it's just jarring. Though to go back to what you said, they probably looked a lot more accurate when they depicted as 'children', during those initial flashbacks.

So this is where orangutanpipe.gif comes from. Polnareff looks like a great addition to the cast.
Why didn't Dio use one of his flower things on him anyway. Seems naive.

Just as an addition to this, the CG studio Shogakukan Music and Digital Entertainment is also credited for animation production; they must be handling the 3D parts with the robots, while BONES handles the 2D parts on Earth.

Anyhow, that was a nice run of anime to check out tonight. Hosanna and Branduil picked a real winner to champion and I hope more people check it out because it's legit good. Pacing deserves some sort of commendation too as episodes 2-8 just sort of blew by such that I'd be surprised when the OP showed up. Never really a dull or wasted moment.

Glad you like it!

Cute is deadly usually.
You're a special case, cajun.

I couldn't belive my hears when i learned about it. i was forced to pay another shipping from the manufacturer ...AND it happenned again !

i lost the fig in the end .. this guy didn't want to let my package go. When i talked to the guy in japan he showed me the box they sent ( that came back ) and i saw that it had everything they needed to let my package go.... Anyway this is one of my bitter experiences with roissy customs ( roissy charle de gaule is the airport name ) ... i lost money ( twice ) , time and didn't get my fig.
And unfortunatly i have other experiences , just as scary and annoying from them.
I once ordered a limited anime edition from NISA ( forgot what was the anime ) and was met with the most ridiculous travel log i've ever seen. ( you're lucky your package stayed in paris ) how about paris , new york, paris , miami as a change of scenary ?

In any case , now i do my best to avoid paris if i can , especially during certain months ( february , may , november & december ) it's horrible... HORRIBLE i tell you.

Apparently Zavvi is supposed to be the absolute worst when it comes to that sort of thing.

There was a story whereby it was revealed that The Hut Group was shipping stuff from the US to evade the UK's sales tax. For a UK user using what's by all appearances is a UK site, getting your stuff sent from the US isn't great.

I actually watched Tenkai Knights on Cartoon Network this morning because I had allergy-induced insomnia and was thus up at normal-people-wake-up-time. It was.................yeah... :(
