I agree. I find true endurance racing a total bore. 10 laps maximum for me, and then I'm done.

I like sim racers, but the realism can only go so far until most people are bored or annoyed. I think Turn 10 have always understood that, and they include the things that most people care about.

I think weather and such are nice inclusions, and it would be nice to see them, but they feel far less important to me than for example, a rock solid framerate and no screen tearing, both of which are areas Polyphony seem to have trouble with.

You'll be lucky to get to ten laps in a Forza game. Three seems to be Dan's sweet spot.

See, what I don't understand is this whole attitude that "endurance races are boring so I'm glad they aren't in Forza". Why be so draconian about it? Why not give people the choice? Let people customise the game to their own preferences? How difficult would it be to have an option to toggle whether you want endurance races or not in your own experience of Forza? Why must the developers just eliminate them altogether because Toddler X and Granny Y don't like them? Why not let us select how many laps we want to run in ANY of the career races instead of getting limited to just three or four laps, so the race ends just when your tyres are warming up and you're finding your rhythm?

Shit like this gets me pretty angry because there's no good reason for it not to exist. The simplest of options could make the game such a more personal and rewarding experience for the individual. Jesus, I'm talking about something as straightforward as selecting the number of fucking laps in a race. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

I was thinking today, while watching that Drivatar video, couldn't Turn 10 use Drivatar to prevent online races to empty when players disconnect ? Kinda like having each player's Drivatar as a backup system for said player. Even if disconnections should be more rare with dedicated servers, that would be a pretty nice feature IMO. That way you could still earn money and XP even when disconnected. Of course it would only be possible once, until the Drivatar would have finished the race you were previously in and be available again, otherwise it could be farmed by players.

Some great posts in this thread over the past day or so. The passion for Forza runs high.

I said in another thread but FORZA-Gaf have an amazing Community. I was mostly active on Forza 4, got the Limited Edition, got the Porsche DLC day one and spent hundreds of hours in this game, I'm about level 212 I believe and while Horizon was different I was there Day One too with the Limited Edition.

It's great to scroll this thread and see that the same people posting here are the people from the Forza Community thread, I may have not been the most active fellow GAFfer but I remember you all. Forza-GAF also have Helios and Badned to keep us in touch and providing us info, it's amazing, however something hit me really hard in the days:

I won't be able to play Forza 5 Day One or... even in 2013. You see, times are quite hard in here. So hard that I'm in one of those countries that won't be getting the Xbox One on launch. It would be more than okay to be honest but not with FORZA 5 releasing at launch... I never felt like this for a game, to be honest, it's a first.

I just saw the Limited Edition and I don't even care for those in other games but I love Forza and I would be all over that Edition and the Xbox One just to play this game.

Soon, when the OT will be up I'll take a look every now and then, wishing I could be with you all, amazing people. Can't wait for you guys to try and make some online races with the Community. You guys are going to have some crazy fun, I can feel that.

I thank you all for all the Forza thread and for helping me loving the Forza with such passion, this game will have many hours spent driving, tweaking and speaking about what many of us love in here, cars.

Here is your 2013 Ford Focus ST "Day One Edition"

see, this is how you do it.
A single pic revealing several tiny details; custom paintjobs in chrome, carbon and matte finish.

Also, this is the first proper matte paint shader i've seen; reflections are still there, just muted and blurred.

I fear it won't be the same ingame, though.
Or maybe it is, and that's why they had to resort to a simple environment mapping instead of cube env mapping (as seen in gamescom laguna seca demo) for the player's car..

Yeah I don't understand the starvation of information and then the influx, it sort of shades over some of the more 'sweeter' details and hype dies very quickly after an influx.

Little tid bits here and there, a pic of a new car/track every few days to drip feed us and wanting more makes more sense.

Also, I remember someone's idea posted a couple of years ago for a track 'auto vista'. I'd love for something like this in the near future, as much as the car being the star, the road on which it's driven is just (if not more IMO) just as glamorous and exciting.

Also, one thing I know that will fuck me off is the stupid limit of camera height/distance in photomode which is no doubt to still be an 'issue' in Forza 5, I know why they do this but after a whilst you get sick of all the same limited camera angles. And whilst I'm on the on the same sort of subject, I'd love a manual in game camera view. I love kite camera (behind the car) view sometimes, but I'd love to be able to manually adjust how close/far from the car my view is.

All in all, apart from all what I feel a niggles, I know Forza will play like Forza and this excited me most as I can't wait to play it :)

There's something strange going on with fm5 development, I think.
We were supposed to get a new trailer and a good amount of new media long before gamescom, which then became soon, after and just 'after'.
Weeks ago FM.net promised a redesign (to accomodate new media and infos) which never happened.

Apparently they are not happy with their 'capture artist' and the guy/s that did the last few trailers because they were looking for new ones (hey guys, I could help!) but that can't be the only reason.

I think at this point t10 still isn't sure what their game will actually look like.

Well it seems like Landin is still there

http://landinwilliams.com/resume2/

I always liked the videos he was involved with, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7aij0BYaU8

it might just be that the game just isn't ready for making a substantial trailer..............unless you want more Prague?

Autovista car door opening cuts to cars on track, shaky cam, roaring engine, close up slow-mo bouncing suspension physicy stuff then back to shaky cam and a F5 logo.

That's all I need.

FYI, even forza 4 had ~10 lap races. in fact, those races were split into two heats.

Honestly I'm not looking for much the problem is shipping this amount of stuff will be a lot. You wouldn't happen to be in Pittsburgh?

planning a trip to cali any time soon? also, won't the fanatech stuff work on a ps4?

Two heats of five laps each?

I honestly can't remember. I lost the will to play the career after my 90+% career save was inexplicably reset to ~16%.

How's the investigation into that going by the way, Helios? I never did get that phone call from Dan. It'd be a shame if the same bug found its way into FM5.

Did you do anything before losing the save mascot?

Moved to cloud saves or transferred to another Xbox?

No, nothing out of the ordinary at all mate. At least two of us (maybe three?) in the GAF club had the same problem, so it might have been related to a corrupt car we shared, but that's just guesswork. It's the only thing I could think of.

It didn't seem to be a widespread problem, but might have been hushed up by the Hitler Youth moderators over on FM.net. Those boys do like to shut down threads if they aren't full of sycophantic circle-jerking.

That's interesting... because they had the guy who did all the Bizarre videos do the intro for FM4, but he's since joined up with Evolution and churned out at least one video for them (the E3 DC trailer). Whilst I'm not upset Turn 10 couldn't hold onto him (I think his efforts are better utilised on something that doesn't try to be so demure) I'm sure he would've done their promo side wonders.

i could be wrong, but i'd peg it more at 10+ laps each heat. i remember those races taking at least 40 minutes to complete both heats. its why i always thought it a little silly to complain about fm4's lack of endurance races in light of those. i guess a 20 minutes race (x2) is still not a 45+ minute race though - but like seanspeed said its long enugh for me.

Heat races were a chore and done mostly to hide the woefully slow A.I and lack of dynamic time of day.

This guy seems "super excited" about FM5.

Immersion is one of his biggest takeaways from his time with the game. That does sound very promising indeed..

Need a video Turn 10. Give me something to tide me over...

who is this guy and how come he plays at ..home? he said he played the demo 100 times the last 48hrs (?!)
**edit: in another video, he mentions fanexpo in canada. I guess he was persistent enough :D

It does sound like it...which is rather worrying considering the game only has 2 months of development left.
That and the fact something changed in their schedule, since we were supposed to get new media weeks ago.

Like i said, i just hope it's not because they're having issues meeting their target with all the cars+physics enabled on final hardware..

I seem to remember previous Forza instalments having scheduled media that failed to materialise before release.

So, you and Seanspeed just need to select "maximum race length: 10 laps" in the options, whereas people who want 3-lappers and people who want much longer races act likewise.

Everybody's happy.

Maybe the technology will exist for this kind of pie-in-the-sky fantasy in another twenty years time.

Yeah, I think we need to wait until tech advances way beyond the Cloud. Perhaps when MS implements Stratospheric technology we might get to see those options included..

I've said before I support including it as an option. Should be easy enough.

I don't think it needs to be some toggle-able aspect, though. Seems easy enough to just choose not to do them if you don't want to.

maybe after an alien invasion :D we need deeper tech for that shit!!!

now seriously, forza 2 had more elaborate leaderboards than forza4, as it would also keep a board per career event.
but given how forza 4 leaderboards work, where only best laptime is kept, there is absolutely no reason that what you say cannot be done, because your (best lap) results will reflect the same, no matter if 1 lap race or 100 laps in the leaderboard.

the thing is, with forza now having dedicated servers, and all this bull about clouds, I will not be entertained if leaderboards dont grow up.

I'm really looking forward to these car models in Horizon 2.

yeah, nextgen horizon will be something special too. hopefully sometime '14
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDCxaWDKeN4

if they can match the forza motorsport track precision at least in closed cirquit horizon events, then this could be the open world car game of the forever.
something like in this video: http://youtu.be/ic81hdsqOb8?t=47s

How did this guy get direct feed audio?
special arrangement blim-helios ftw 8)

The glare on the road is too much. Seriously, why won't T10 tone that down?

And I hope FM5 is the first game to finally show some love for 5.1/7.1/subwoofer users. Some LFE would be nice.

The surfacing work on race tracks does often produce a lot more glare than a standard road surface.

A lot of these off screen videos massively exacerbate the glare.

I hope I never have to post on the official Forza boards to talk Forza.

That MOD Big Worm is kinda crazy. He is saying people shouldn't complain about the new wheels not having a clutch because it's just pixles on a screen.
