Totally disagree about the controller. I thought it felt great when I used it.

I agree. I read his post and thought, 'Did I travel into Bizarro Universe?' It could happen. I ate an incredibly hot burrito today and it's possible I pulled a Homer Simpson. -Adam

I'm sure the input lag is all cause of the TV, or it being an older beta build.
As for the Xbone controller impressions, I have heard less than glowing praise for the D-pad and shoulder triggers. The former is better than on 360, but still not a very good d-pad; whereas the latter is definitely worse than on 360, and has been called "mushy".

I did also hear Totalbiscuit say that graphically, it's not that big of a difference between BF3 and BF4 on PC (and he runs a 2xTitan PC mind you) - the improvements primarily being a much greater rendering distance and lightning improvement. It being 50% better looking than BF3 sounds about right, maybe even a bit too much.

Yeah it's most likely the TV. But as I mentioned earlier in the thread, BF3 on PS3 had some serious input lag problems when it first came out--it was pretty annoying. Playable, but annoying.

And the main problems I've heard of the new XBone pad rely mostly on its bumpers/trigger setup, the trigger being dampened without that normal stop/click on the 360 pad, and it being crazy light.

I made a short clip from BF4 beta on PS3 for comparison of the input lag. My TV is in automatic game mode. I don't feel there are any problems with responsiveness. There's a difference between playing a game and watching a clip like that. Your perception of lag is bigger when watching. I don't have a 360. If you do, make a clip too.

Thanks for sharing. Looks much better. Strange that the Xbone is looking so laggy. Could it be early driver issues? Interference to the wireless controller?

But looking at the video it seems there was something wrong with the game or controller.

This is what happens when people over-estimate the hardware on these next-gen systems. It isn't like the PS3/360 days where upon release the hardware was near the top-end.

Now with the PS4/XBONE - the hardware is near the low-end.

Someone in Xbox One subreddit posted those Pics of BF4 (on Xbox one of course)

In the first pic, can someone tell me where did that big shadow in the ground come from?
Well, it does look better than the 360 version at least.=p

No. I disagree that they're on the low end. Out of the five R series GPUs announced by AMD, the mid level card (270x) is slightly below a PS4 GPU. PC guys always claim superiority over consoles when said consoles launch (they did it with PS2 and PS3 as well) but it never ends up being true. This gen will be like all the others: slightly disappointing at the start, but increasing steadily every year until they are shaming the best graphics seen on any platform at the launch period. There's nothing on PC this year that will compete visually with what Naughty Dog will make at the end on PS4's life cycle. Not even close.

You're acting like Battlefield 4 is the best looking title at either consoles' launch. Why?

From my experience that looks to be a issue with the TV. I'm confident that will not be shipped as is. Microsoft has always had a great controller. I would not be worried about it. I have heard concerns about the bumper and trigger placement but I doubt it will be hard to get use to. Microsoft clearly cares a lot about their controller. It is quiet possible that there is a benefit to their layout. We should wait till we actually get good amount of time with the controllers before we claim this controller sucks. I truly believe this controller will surprise everyone.

So they even messed up the controller.

I'll be sticking to the 360 controller and my pc then. For the first time I will pick a ps over an Xbox when I get a console.

What a mess of a console. Mattrick has a lot to answer for but he ran.. Must have known the mess he'd left I fear.

You have no personal playtime with the controller? Why are you so quick to judge?

Let me also tell you some other really bad news...oxygen is now poisonous outside, I went outside and starting coughing really badly. You might want to hold your breathe today as you commute to work.

Because I'm hearing bad news story after bad news story.

They already overpriced it, under specced it and forced Kinect in. In doing so, after several years of falling behind on first party development, they'd finally turned me off the xbox completely.

So I admit my view of the thing is negative now I guess I am assuming the bad when I read these things, perhaps wrongly.

There are a lot of good stories as well. I wouldn't say underspecced. It is a truly powerful machine. With great exciting exclusives to look forward to. The forced Kinect i can see being a turn off but i hear high hopes from several developers. At least Microsoft is taking chances and innovating with the Kinect. Don't get me wrong the PS4 is a beautiful piece of tech.

You are complete right, it is just so much easier to ignore the overwhelming majority of people who had hands-on with the controller and who think it is awesome.

What console games do you consider unplayable with high input lag? Just curious as I want to try one and see if it bothers me. I really don't notice the lag difference though you know. I have constantly switched to game mode on and have it off with motionflow like 20 times in a row as people keep saying it introduces tons of lag. I moved around with the stick each time with different games and maybe I noticed a teeny bit of lag sometimes but only because I was looking for it. Normal gameplay I'd never notice it as it's so small and sometimes I thought it was in my head it's that minimal anyway.

In any case the trade off for me personally is huge. Games are way too jerky at 30fps especially when you move the camera the background is so blurry without motionflow it makes your eyes hurt. I could'nt go back now without motionflow or its equivalent...it really does make a game like Gears seem as if it's running at 60fps. I never have it on for video though it makes things look live and fake. Hobbit was better at 24fps.
GTA4 is the most obvious example. It feels horrendous. I'm not sure how you don't notice it. 110 ms input lag is huge.

My opinion regarding the controllers, I think people *think* they like the PS4 controller better because of the euphoria of how much better it is compared to the biggest insult to gaming controllers called SixAxis/DS3. And people *think* think they dislike the One controller because any downgrade, from miniscule to small, from the 360 controller to One controller feels magnified because of how good the 360 controller is.

In short, I think PS4 controller feels superb because of the tupperware DS3 and the One controller feels disapppinting because of 360 ergonomic perfection. Every upgrade or downgrade is magnified because of their predecessors.

I can't take any of this shit seriously. Most of these opinions are tainted with bias and hate towards Sony/MS. So much nitpicking and bickering back and forth. Fanboys bending backwards to find things wrong with pretty much anything they can bash on. If I wanted this I would have stack around ign or Gamespot ffs!

Have they shown next gen footage yet? I mean I know they've shown PC footage played on XB1 controller.

Correct me if Im wrong, but there is Ghosts ad that keeps appearing that sais "next gen gameplay featured". That whole trailer looked like 360 footage to me.

That 'Kinect cant see you' warning box is going to be bloody annoying...hopefully there in an in game setting to kill off kinect use.

To be fair, BF2:MC was a port of the Xbox version, which was a downgraded battlefield from the PC version. BF4 however can be fully optimised for the consoles because of the engine and toolset. Not a fair comparison.

No idea where the input lag has come from.

It was not there at the Eurogamer Expo

The horrendous textures and generally sub-current gen visuals were, though.

But, it was an Alpha build. And I suspect the build the OP played was as well.

We should really hold some of the vitriol and pitchforks until we see final builds. It's one reason why I'm glad the US has a two week lead on the UK PS4 launch.

As someone who really dislikes the 360 controller and thinks it holds like shit, causes immediate and unnecessary perspiration, and has unbearable triggers, I'm rather happy to hear more negative press on their newly invested one hundred million dollar controller.

Their 180s are a facade and their true agenda was shown. Doesn't make me want to just turn around and support them, so good on them for arguably making something worse, even if it is the opinion of a few.

Fuck them.

Now just remove the watermark, add a photo of an X1 underneath it and post it in Reddit as "Hands-on with X1". Watch the hilarity ensue.

There literally no way to pass that off as xb1 version, that tank clearly has shadows.

You should take a seat man, it's only a videogame console.

Ok then.

Well, the powerful machine with great exclusives comment is not something crazy or anything. PS4 being more powerful doesn't negate the fact the the x1 is clearly a generational leap over 360. And the great exclusives is subjective.

The whole thing about taking risks with Kinect, umm yeah. Taking an improved version of a accessory that has been bundled with 360 for years and even though it has sold 20million+ it still hasn't had any meaningful software released for it besides dance and mini games. And the launch support reflects that. The only risk MS is taking with Kinect is trying to do something Sony couldn't do, even with the huge success of the ps2. Trying to release a $500 console to the mass market and expect it to be successful. I would call that a stupid risk though.

It's not bad news. It's NeoGAF news.

In NeoGAF news, a drop of rain equates to Force 10 hurricane.

Seeing the rigs on that other BF4 thread and then seeing the results. Yeah I am not shocked here.

The Recommended GPU by DICE themselves is a Radeon 7870, which the X1 is not even close to, oh and 3GB of GDDR5 ... which yeah.

I do not know how MS thought they could release such an underpowered system at the START of the next-generation cycle. We are just starting, and the X1 is running BF4 at 720p x 60fps probably at medium settings.

I see Killzone, and then I see max settings BF4. Killzone still looks better and runs 1080p x 60fps MP ( 30fps SP ). So I am curious how the final PS4 version will run. 1080p x 60fps - High settings? The 7850-7870 seems to handle 1080p max settings in the 35-45fps range. So I'm thinking with optimization, maybe they could push that to 60fps with simple scaling of the shadows, draw distance, etc?

"Fuck them." Very constructive.
You complaining about his posts is not constructive, either.

This is an alpha build, and the input lag is likely from a combination of this being an alpha build and the tv having lag. There have been other games played on the Xbox One... without noticeable input lag.

Just take a breather; it's launch, the games will look better as time goes on.
