yeah i have a hard time believing that another red ring fiasco is coming up

it hurt ms a lot more than it hurt us

A consumer having to pay money for faulty device hurts the consumer mate. Screw how well it goes for the mega corporation...

Also, people should consider what we know about jaguar, ESram, and everything here being APU SOC. Things get hotter much quicker.

A pretty easy prediction. Theres a roughly 40% power gap between the two consoles, the idea that Xbone will drop resolution to get parity shouldn't be controversial or surprising.

Wouldn't a year old Xonebox be a devkit?

shh.....

Besides, I doubt that this XboxOneDev is anyone who isn't just being paid to evangelise the platform. I never understood this idea the developers can't be paid to shill, especially at 1st party studios.

The hard facts are that until a year from now, you can't take anything anyone says a gospel only when both consoles are out in the wild and the second gen of titles are released will the truth be apparent.

Well just the occasional comment that makes me nervous like the Battlefield devs not wanting to specify the resolution or Watch Dogs not looking as crisp as when it was first shown ... just little snippets here and there. And then of course articles appearing in which devs say they're going to be aiming for 'parity'. It's out there. You've just got to look
Yes you are asserting that the degrades are because MS is forcing console parity for next gen games. We've not heard a single instance that this is the case.

roughly translated CBOAT:"When hardware is released you'll see what I mean about issues. Upclocks too risk everywhere, 2014 was a better idea."
Reddit person:No I don't see what you mean, be more specific please, what issues?

Reading comprehension Fail? Yes.

Why would the X1 drop resolution to get parity? Don't you mean devs will drop the resolution on the PS4 to get parity?

Ha, that one is great. I'm going to be on my best behavior so that isn't my epitaph. :)

To be fair, he has been wrong on the yield issues... and that was quite a significant rumour. It seems illogical to me to slightly overclock the CPU if they're having reliability issues with thermals for games running in 1080p.

It seems illogical to me that they'd cut down the number of countries they originally announced for if there weren't any yield issues in some capacity, meanwhile Sony is taking over the world by releasing in 3x as many countries.

A Xbox One for a year? Bullshit. The final hardware only shipped recently. The upclocks are recent as well.

The guys name is xbox one dev and he actually mentions ps4 as a counter... He also didnt respond to everyting cboat even said, just select snips that were answered in a very simple and smug way... I call bullshit for now. If its not ... Then thats some very unprofessional stuff.

You can't make a judgement call whether he was wrong on yield issues at this point and time. All we have to back up his statement thus far is rumblings of less supply than Sony and the huge reduction in the number of launch countries for the Xbone.

Seems pretty telling to me.

Major Nelson clarified this. The yields were apparently so awesome that the boats became overladen with X-Box Ones and couldn't sail to those other countries the console was scheduled to launch in. That's the problem, you know. Too much yield.

(I'm kidding. Though I do think the retraction into those specific territory is more a result of Microsoft being in terror of the numbers they're seeing than a yield issue per se. They're having to refocus to try and retain markets they were expecting to have on lock, and want to push as many consoles through them as they can during the "guaranteed sales" period of the launch window, for fear that Sony's numbers will dwarf theirs otherwise and lead to a snowball effect.)

Where do I mention that MS are enforcing parity? How am I 'asserting' something if I don't even mention it?

  • Development started later (compared to PS4)
  • Reveal event pushed back
  • Driver/OS not up to par
  • THIS looks just like a bunch of HTPC components thrown together
  • Launch list of countries reduced
  • 3rd party title footage severely limited
  • Unclear policies, messaging
It's all starting to add up.
This... nothing to add ;)

Even if you can't take things as gospel, it doesn't make sense that Devs who could do such amazing things with last gen hardware will not even be able to reach 1080p at all.

Especially when one dev has already succeeded.

The sensible thing to do would be to expect improvements, on launch title quality, not the opposite.

If he was referring to multiplats and Devs not wanting to spend money on properly optimizing for each platform (especially early on when production costs for simply making a next gen game are already a bump in costs) then okay I could see that happening.

I think he means devs will drop resolution goals so they can reserve power for visual effects to maintain mainstream level parity (the assumption that mainstream does not care about resolution. )

i was wondering if here was going to a rrod 2.0 of sorts. hopefully not mind, would not very fun for those who spend 500 on a new device

An imaginary Xbox One can be anything you want! That's the beauty of them.

Plus 29 days uptime on a dev box?

Bullshit.

Pre-paunch consoles get updates frequently requiring reboots. I've never had a 360 stay up for 30 days much less a dev unit.

Those amazing things they did with ladt gen hardware came at the expense of frame rate and resolution.

But for pure entertainment factor on forums would be beyond awesome, 504s everywhere.

Worth noting that (at least in my experience) it's harder to tell the difference between 720p upscaled and 900p upscaled, than it is to distinguish between 900p upscaled and 1:1 1080p. If a lot of multiplats end up upscaled on PS4 anyway, the XB1 might have a little more breathing room than we expect.

That "beta tested in the future" line is going to be pretty bad if there ends up being some sort of RROD fiasco.

It's possible that Earth's future will have the Sun change into a red sun, and if so it might be difficult to notice a red ring on your console in this case.

rrod 2.0 talk

I dont want to add more fuel to the fire, but didnt we recently see a video of forza 5 demo pod, where the colors where changing?
we said it was a camera problem, but maybe it was the xbone getting fried up..?

(I'm still getting day 1 xbone for forza)

The proof will be in the pudding, if even one dev shos the gap between the two machines in a third party game the rest are going to look like fools by gimping one version of the game to make happy ms. It just needs one to see this parity bs come crashing down.

Delicious drama.

It's amusing how he claims to have had an X1 for a year in order to disprove what he is calling BS. He could have easily just said a month, but chose a year. Now ask yourself why that would be, given the narrative of this thread? To prove that the X1 has no issues with overheating? His post almost verifies to me that what CBOAT meant was another potential RROD. He lies to prove it doesn't have overheating problems when he so easily could have just focused on the resolution issue, which is taking up 99% of the conversation on here, but instead he exaggerates and says a year! mmmmmmm ...

Makes the decision easier when choosing what version to buy. I will buy the majority of third-party titles for the PS4 this gen, no doubt.

I really hope you are right. Like I said, it's just a small concern at the moment.

Woooo there fella, that means nothing of the sort. I'm talking about the devs risking the wrath of MS, not MS forcing devs to maintain parity. They're two completely different conversations.
That's even more crazy.

Other than that, no-one really knows and that's deliberate to allow him/her to spill these beans. Whether or not they're true is a different matter, but at least they're entertaining.

These threads are so entertaining. Seriously, I don't know how GAF will keep the quality of entertainment this high once the consoles are actually out.

Can't believe some people are still eating the meals served by the shills. Whoever thinks devs will purposefully force parity when they could get better visuals on Ps4 is ignorant. What do you guys think will happen if EA would do that but Ubisoft doesn't and suddenly Ubi games look better on PS4? Use some common sense, the only question still unanswered is how big the gap in actual visuals, not numbers, will really be.
