Teething problems come part and parcel with console's these days and Europe isn't letting the rest of the world beta test the console for them either (well... except for tier 2 for Xbox One), that said I'm confused on why would Microsoft try and change the party chat system, it was a much much much lauded feature over PS3's PSN and if it ain't broke don't fix it?

Man this is all so silly. It's video games.

If this is the problem instead of rrod, I'll be happy...

CBOAT only leak stuff that are confirmed truthfacts. If he didn't post already he either work to get other sources to confirm it or gather additional material.

he also generally only leaks stuff that is pretty darn obvious

As fast as PS3 and 360.

I haven't had any OS crashes. Now shitty apps (cough fucking bullshit shittiest shit in the world fucking YouTube app... Cough)

360 and PS3 are 8 years old.

The standard for OS responsive and functionality are smartphones and tablets.

If PS4 or Xbox One OS are noticably slower than my phone or tablet, expect to hear from me. That's just unacceptable.

It's still slow and crashes a lot...

Well it will still be slow if you haven't updated it , since the last update its been quite nippy, boot time and login to "play" time was greatly reduced, if its still crashing then maybe you have a hardware issue.

Only crash issue i have is once again due to the netflix app, which sometimes refuses to exit properly forcing a poweroff. But at least it now loads properly, so they are nearly there :p

Anyway back on topic it does seem like we are getting more bad Xbox One news every week now. I know things have issues at launch but changing the party chat system from the xbox system which people liked to the ps3 style system which people hated seems counter productive :/

These kind of rumours worry me a lot more than the resolution stuff. If both PS4 and Xbox One are struggling on the software side, I really wish they would have both waited until Q1/2 of 2014, GTA5 would have happily kept me ticking over until then, unfortunately what I think has happened is one has sensed the opportunity to trump the other by releasing their system earlier, and as a result both are going to be hindered. Personally, as long as XBL is as good as it currently is, I'm not worried, as long as they fix it this year, if things are a mess though, I'm going to be pissed. I guess the Tier 2 countries are feeling a little less aggrieved at this news.

This is upsetting if true. If any company can crunch and ensure a stable environment it's Microsoft. They have some of the best people working on it. They definitely have the money to spend on the best.

It's a multibillion dollar business. In a way, it's very serious. Besides don't you find this stuff fun?
Agreed- but because well get console impressions from news outlets before launch, it just kinda devolves into all of these online tipsters trying to outdo each other

I don't know, I would prefer to deal with real info. I guess well get it in a few weeks, should be interesting to see the state of the Xbone.

Sony could put more heat on MS, regarding these rumours are in fact true by releasing a series of PS4 OS walkthroughs leading up to launch.

servers would allow for, ideally, better party connection and would get rid of the inability many had (do to restrictive nat) to connect to their friends

in theory

If by "rumor" you mean "not 100% confirmed, but looking pretty fucking likely", then yes.

boh i dont know who this famousmortimer is
reading the entire blog he dont seem a big fan of the xb1...so ill take this rumor as just one of the millions one against the xb1

anyway ...1 month before fixing ? 2 months? dont think is important...well when they will fix...it will be okay....i think is a sided rumor coz seem that this gen the online service to go is xbl (for lots of reasons)

In my opinion, it looks like Sony had a clear and concise vision of what they wanted their console OS to be. Easy to use, connected well socially and built for sharing - and above all, built for gamers. It's a pretty reasonable goal, and it looks like they've done well.

Microsoft on the other hand have literally thrown absolutely everything into their new console OS, with each MS division having a hand, hoping for it all to stick to attract a wider entertainment based market. A much harder task than Sony's, and very ambitious. But hey, they have a year and a half on plan to get it all sorted....

"wait, what's that? Sony is launching THIS YEAR?!

FUCK"

And as such, we end up with a rushed, buggy mess of a console.

It really does look like that. It's such a stark contrast to how MS introduced the 360. It was fully featured, but still focused and distinct. The 360 simply offered the best functionality on the market. Listen to your own music while games automatically mute theirs, invite friends across games, chat with friends in the OS.

MS started out like young lean Elvis. Hungry and versatile... then success and excess happened, and right now we see fat bloated Elvis stumbling around on stage.

The core is still amazing, but the added fat makes it embarrassing to watch.

That is what is throwing me a for a loop. Good point.

I've updated and I get more crashes now.

Wii U is slower than my phone. The OS is just unacceptable in this market. The only way it is acceptable is if you compare it to technology almost a decade old.

if PS4 and Xbox One turn out to be as slow as Wii U, consider me extremely dissapointed. I'm expecting smartphone responsiveness.

I have asked about that a few times and I can't remember who it was but they said Sony was planning something for October...where is it?

thats what i said too...

come on guys, we cant be serious here saying that xbox live will be ruins and death.
it just does not compute.
could they have fucked it up? yes of course they could.
could it be permanently unfixable? unless they used proprietary and uncompatible hardware for networking, or something equally impossible, you bet you ass its fixable.

will they be laughed at if they dont deliver the service at day 1?
YES they will.
but nothing more serious than that I would bet.
They have to have the units packed up and ready to ship to retailers very soon, if not already. They don't have that much time left to fix everything. Most likely it would have to be a post launch patch to fix whatever issues there are.

but thats hardly news. we knew since a long time that there will be a big day 1 patch.
since the day they 180'd in the always online drm shit.

so i suppose it will be in a working state after that patch.
now, additional patches of course will come, but from my experience this is something that a) was not exclusive for microsoft up'till now and b) microsoft was not even the worst offender in these kind of situations.

but as I said, if a service **NOTICE: a service that I pay for since 11 years**
fails to offer to me my forza leaderboards or my chatting ability day 1,
oh yes it will be ridiculed so much!! :D

but definitely not the end of the world there..

This is what i dont get . If consumers are spending $500 on a device and someone on good authority factually knows about issues which could affect potential customers, everyone needs to know. It is the moral authority of a journalist to get this information out for the good of the consumer.

Maybe some people don't want to get sued up and down the street? Just a thought.

Who was the guy who said we won't see many videos and footage from PS4 versions because Sony is not providing something to the press, and they are giving free publicity to Microsoft? Did it turn out to be true?

Then I'd suggest you prepare for disappointment.

Sorry. Stupid fallacy here. The hardware is 8 years old. Both respective operating systems are NOT 8 years old.

Seems like he's taken over the deflection machine from DopeyFish really. I went to bed seven hours ago and nothing seems to have changed haha.

That sort of distinction is largely meaningless.

That's honestly the last thing we need right now, since PS4 will likely have it's own launch issues.

I think consumers have a right to know. Being transparent is in MS best interest. I think they risk losing more consumer trust if they release this thing with software problems.
$500 is not $5.
My idea is not to stoke the fire but for MS to be a bit more forthcoming when it comes to serious issues such as this.
The really need better PR people as well.

My sympathies to the Microsoft guys reading this thread and pulling all nighters trying to get so much code rewritten, tested, rewritten, etc. I bet the amount of meals that Ryse got at crunch time will be peanuts compared to this.

It's nothing against you specifically but my god I hate it when people say that...

So what if it's Video games? For some people Video Games are one of the most important thing in their life.

Not only am I a hardcore gamers that always want to keep up to date on videogames news but I actually work in the industry so for me that my livelyhood.

maybe that the crashing part isn't normal. I for one never experienced a single crash.

Anyway, offtopic.. Sorry bout that.

i had few (mainly on PS3). I think people don't get whole problem. It is not that there will be occasional crash once every week or month. If rumors are true and OS have major problems you will have to deal with it daily.

And as f said this could go on for weeks or months.

Then avoid these threads then, other people value information highly and plenty of people are all right with rumors being true or false.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Every single problem I could foresee with MS lack of focus on keeping a good Xbox team throughout the years since 360 launch, all coming home to roost all at once.

Astounding really how much they've fucked up something they've had 8-years to plan. Sony's Feb unveil just punched them totally dizzy for the entire year.

Obvious ? like what ?

He delivers only the best stuff.
I've never seen a cboat 'megaton' I couldn't have guessed at
like 'xbox games will be lower resolution' (after ryse has been revealed as 900p mind you)
err obvious much? if 900p allows for ryse quality graphics why would they not use it most often? If they have a weaker system they have to make good looking games somehow.

I don't think anyone's criticizing them as much as the decisions that led to this point. Believe me being a code monkey and not understanding why you have to do something but putting in 100-120 hour weeks is not healthy nor good and if things turn out well at launch or right afterwards they better reward those people.

I'm sure you guessed Mirror's Edge 2, since you seem to be good at guessing things and all.
