Infinity Ward confirms: CoD Ghost is 720p on Xbox One, 1080p on PS4

You're right. You implied that most people buying these new consoles don't care. Sorry I hyperbolized your argument. It still makes no sense. Change my "no one" to "most people" and try to justify your stance, please.

Heh, so most people won't be buying new consoles simply for games that aren't on current gen?

Yeah, what I said doesn't make any sense.

The main advantage I have seen in higher resolution for 3D games is the ability to have more detailed models at a farther distance from the camera. Instead of tiny blobs, you get distinct models. This is clearly ideal for a FPS. I don't play CoD, but I feel those that spend a lot of time with the game shouldn't hesitate to skip Xbox this time around based on this revelation.

Look at how much less detail there is in the background buildings on the PS4 image. You can almost read the road sign in the background on the XB1 version, not even close on the PS4. Looks like they really cut corners to get to 1080p on PoS4.
Is that supposed to be funny?

Why do Apple products do so well then?

I thought this was about standards and who buys what. If someone has high standards the cheaper product (PS4) will both fulfill those standards and is $100 less than the Xbone. Standards isn't the right term, brand loyalty or faith are. After the Xbone circus, a lot of faith in Microsoft has been squandered personally.

lol comparing Microsoft hardware to Apple..

That comparison might make sense if you said Apple product is inferior because of the price to performance ratio *and* the buyer knew this but bought it anyway. But afaik most Apple buyers think the stuff is the best on the market.

"There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black."

Yeah, what I said doesn't make any sense.
Multiplatform games will sell more and make up the bulk of software sales, even at launch.

So, "most people" will be buying these titles of far greater brand strength and awareness alongside their new systems.

There may be one or two exclusive titles around which people consolidate. But I expect the above to be the case as it was at past transition.

Heh, he said people with lower standards don't buy more expensive products.

So... Why is bringing up the success of Apple products wrong?

No where in my post did I say that MS has the same level of popularity/consumer awareness as Apple.

Honestly man sometimes it just seems like you wanna argue for the sake of arguing.

Android phones are of a higher standard than iPhones and are more expensive?

Why are we concerned with people with low standards anyway? If 720p games are not a factor in the success of the X1...good for MS.

For me, in 2013 - I want more.

I have a Surface Pro; I do not have an iPad, and I still think that.

There is no doubting there is a difference between the two. The way I see it though is that the average gamer, who plays COD, Madden basically, will follow his friends to the system they want to game on and will give two shits about this. Their decision will be made based off of what their COD, Madden buddies are doing, not this.

If everybody follows then who leads?

Come now, Apple's products are best in class no question. Try again.

Those days are long gone. But kudos to them that they get people to still believe that. Something MS has trouble with, even if they actually have the best product (don't mean X1 of course...).

And, just for the record, the type of "average gamer" you're describing will go for the cheaper one. Just so that's clear, and we can stop seeing this cyclical argument that places such gamers in a vacuum where they A) don't give a shit about price, B) don't have eyes or ears to read social media or hear their hardcore friends talking about the difference between the two consoles, and C) have some crazy brand loyalty that exists only in the most limber of minds.

Hard to know really. Bayonetta sold less on 360 despite being clearly superior version.

Been gaming with friends since the inception of Xbox Live. Still gaming with those friends. Most of these multiplats are built for social gaming and social gaming was more of a pleasure on the 360 than it was on the PS3. Thus, despite the resolution I will continue to game on multiplats with friends on the console I'm used to and on the other side, purchase a PS4 for the exclusives.

At this point I'm more curious to see if DF does a comparison between X360 and X1 versions of the game. I'm not sure what the differences would be, if any.

We need some people to push back sometimes, keeps discussion interesting.

Thing is if one of them cares about this and tells them about all of this and says "PS4 is 100$ cheaper", I do not think that they will be like "no I want to pay 100$ more".

My friends are doing this :( Familiarity is pretty big, same with transferring friends lists/gamerscore.

You are missing the point here; these gamers that I described don't care about the price tag..they want to game with the same controller layout, same friends lists, etc. We will obviously have to wait for numbers to come in over time but I just feel that Xbox is still going to have the majority of COD players when it comes to MP.

But exclusive games can help determine what console they buy as has been seen many times in the past. Hence why both MS and Sony are putting a lot of time/money into that area.

There's going to be many who'll buy the Xbox One that will think in a similar fashion (even though it won't be the most powerful console).

Have you told your friends any of this and do they know the superior system is 100$ cheaper?

Lol let's not get carried away here. It'll clearly outshine the 360 version, as it will have next-gen lighting and rendering techniques that the current-gen versions will lack. (Also, just 16 days until we can stop calling the PS360 "current gen." FUCK YEAH!)

I played a lot of ps3 and 1080p pc games on my hdtv. 1080p is awesome, but i didnt have an issues switching back to 720p or sub 720p ps3 games.

Hardcore pc gamers hate lower resolutions, but normal non graphic whore gamers wont have a problem imo

Of course they won't have a problem. Well some might who knows. The real problem is that this is just bad PR for the XB1

Them average gamers will swoop in to save the xbox day. Too bad there is no way to track average gamer's buying habits since they dont seem to be showing up in any measurable metric which all indicate PS4 to have more pre-orders and interest. I am sure the nebulous average gamer will buy the more expensive product that is spec wise worse because they dont care about anything except what some vast minority of people is telling them. Makes sense.

If they are familiar and enjoy the 360 why would that even matter? MS is leading them right into the One. I am saying this because I know a group of friends who are doing this. The PS4 isn't even on their radar; they know nothing of 1080p discussions, nothing of even the reversal by MS during the summer. This group is going to be much larger and more influential than most on here are ready to believe.

No. They simply don't have the same standards as you.

That would be true if those same people weren't touting the announced 1080p/60 games on XBO or arguing that the visual difference in multiplats would be nonexistent. Now that it's not the case, suddenly resolution doesn't matter.

I agree, I think this gen is going to be very similar to the last in terms of competition and how close the two consoles are. I think the PS4 will edge it out a bit due to MS missteps lately/power/price difference, but it really is impossible to make absolute statements one way or the other until the numbers come in.

Same. I know people who know all that negative XB1 stuff and don't even care.
