Infinity Ward confirms: CoD Ghost is 720p on Xbox One, 1080p on PS4

how accurate is that? not the numbers, but the box sizes?

As someone who only owned a Wii at the beginning of this generation I find the idea that a lot of folks no longer care about the graphical fidelity of their games absolutely hilarious given some of the nastiness they threw that console's way.

Looks accurate to me. 720 is roughly 3/4 of 1080 and 1280 is a bit less than 3/4 of 1920, so for the 720p box you get a rectangle with lengths and widths about 3/4 that of the 1080p rectangle.

That thread is just overwhelmed by rationalization. On the other hand, go check out the Deadly Premonition PC thread, where people went crazy because it was locked at 720p. I think once you get used to 1080p (or whatever high resolution you play it), it becomes very noticeable when things are lower res.

PC gamers tend to sit closer to their monitors and are more performance oriented than console gamers.

Remember when people were saying there would be little to no differences on multiplat games? Good times.
We expected some small differences, but THIS was unexpected. I would have never believe someone if they had told me that Microsoft biggest partners would make the ps4 version better. I expected parity from microsoft partners.

Amazing, I count 3 separate stories about the PS4 FAQ. Cannot find the COD 720p story at all.

I rather liked the Verge, (though reviews, Warren, Nilay and Nathan are meh) so I was really looking forward to Polygon.

Disappointment is an understatement. Aside from features and pretty graphics, they're just... urgh.

About the only guy tolerable in the group is Justin, and that's being kind.

I'm shocked to see someone who lists "xbox 360" as one of the skills in his linkedin profile along with a "xbox live specialist" certification downplaying the differences. I really am.
To be fair isnt 1080p still a minority resolution even when only counting 40"+ HDTVs?

I think people are also too focused on resolution while ignoring that the resolution is likely not the only aspect where the versions aren't matching. Look at BF4 for example. The performance is better on top of running at a higher resolution. So the resolution is really just one part to a much bigger story as far as comparisons go.

Devs don't down play their games. If they did Parity, Sony first party would make those games look like Garbage. At the end of the day you get what you paid for.

It is now just a question of when the next game will be announced as being gimped on the Xbox One. I'm guessing Assassins Creed will be the next ass storm.

It's pretty difficult to find 720p TVs now except for the odd 720p plasma here and there.

This is only in the U.S. Don't know what the situation is in other countries.

Yeah I believe it's a little bit like that after the extra pixels are inserted to take an image from some lower resolution to 1080p.

For example if you take a 720p image and take one pixel, that one pixel is equal to a little more than 2 pixels on the same image but in 1080p. So what they gotta do is create one to two extra pixels (or rather divide the one big 720p pixel into 2 smaller 1080p pixels).

A really poor upscaler would just have the 720p pixel divide into two smaller pixels of the exact same color as the source pixel. A more sophisticated one will look at the pixels surrounding the 720p pixel, look at their colors and try to decide which colors to make the 2 pixels when upscaling to 1080p.

The best that an upscaler can do is give you an image that looks the same as the input image but using a larger amount of pixels, but that could only happen if both the input horizontal and vertical res are integer multiples of the horizontal and vertical output res (e.g 1280x720 into 2560x1440).
Every other res is going to look bad.

Because Microsoft can't buy it off that's why. They've basically tried, with droves and droves of shills, countless numbers of which have been banned. But this is one place where money, pressure, shills, NDA's and PR nonsense just won't work for them (not nearly as well anyway). Same goes for Sony and Nintendo too mind. We tend to see through shit like more often than not.

I have to commend EviLore again and again for not selling this place to Yahoo or whoever it was. He could have been a muti millionaire right now, but instead stuck to his guns and stopped this place from being yet another obvious manipulable cog in the corporate machine.

Well said.

100% accurate. Largest box has 2,073,600 pixels.

Don't forget these things are built to last for 7 years. When 360 came out HDTVs were not even common now they're everywhere.

Probably, but I see Killzone at 1080 and wonder about it. Probably a lack of time more than anything, but yeah,I love to think about corporate scheming because I know it happens when no one expects it from personal experience.
KZ doesn't keep a steady 60. EA is obsessed with beating CoD so they're probably not compromising on framerates.

Polygon is getting a little suspect by now. Are they serious? First of all, idgaf if you can't tell the difference, you're paying a $100 more for a weaker console. Also, is he asking if it's fun? It's fucking COD. It's been the same for the past 6 years. If you thought the first Modern Warfare was fun, chances are you're going to dig this one. Sometimes the things these journalists say baffle me.

Practically all TVs sold in Asia by the big brands are full HD nowadays.

In electronic stores, the only ones that aren't full HD are the older models below 32" and the low end plasmas.

Yup you can never create detail that wasn't in the source and by virtue of having fewer, larger pixels, which cause a loss in detail, 720p upscaled to 1080p can never look as good. The best they can do is when the upscaler splits the pixels, that it differentiate those colors by analyzing surrounding pixels.

Example: a black pixel on the 720p image splitting into two pixels (lets say it just splits it side by side), where the one on the left is a slightly grayer shade than the one on the right because a light source is to the left.

Guys, remember when Leadbetter used 7850 (X1) vs 7870 (PS4) to conclude that power doesn't scale ...... Doesn't that look silly now! lol

Has there been a framerate analysis of Killzone or is this based on Eric Boltjes being way more honest than your average game developer?

I mean what people actually own and will be gaming on, not whats on store shelves today. I remember 720p 50" sets sold like crazy on black friday last year(or was it the year before that?)

Something tells me if the XB1 was the one with this kind of advantage we'd be hearing about it constantly. Just go back to when the DRM stuff happened and look at how many media people rushed to MS' defense and even brought out the "entitled consumers" line in a few cases.

Unfortunately I think you're right.

That's why PSP games look great on the Vita. The PSP screen is 480x272 and the Vita is double the width and double the hight at 960x544. If you play a PSP game on the Vita, each original pixel is a 2x2 block on the Vita, meaning it scales perfectly.
