Didn't 3DS, Vita and Wii U all have insane hype and preorders at launch?

The Wii-U's launch was actually really good, it just fell off a cliff sales-wise the moment the launch ended. I can't imagine the 3DS launch was that great since I saw a full shelf of them sitting around at a retailer on launch.

Anyway, make sure you take two friends, OP. You'll need a friend in case the first friend decides to turn on you!

600 in one store 0_o , damn that's insane and a midnight release too. people won't be able to leave til 3-5 am. haha a pet peeve is waiting for everyone to pay on midnight releases, takes too long.

No we're not. The PS4 will be moderately supply constrained. There are going to be a ton of PS4s actually out in the wild. There will be millions sold by January so I can't see that happening whatsoever.

Have you looked at ebay? Because I've been folowing it for near 2 weeks, Australia is averaging over 50% more for a PS4 and we're close to 4 weeks away. USA we're seeing them in the 8 to 900 range and you can expect that to EASILY double on the night of launch.

wait, the 2nd shipment is for February? supply issues?

No, just if he missed launch he'd have to wait for second shipment and also the store has so many pre-orders they are backed up until Feb (which could be shipment 4 or 5 or whatever).

The fact they've taken 600 pre-orders doesn't mean those are 600 launch units. I know Amazon was taking pre-orders for December 31st deliveries for a long while, though last I checked even that is sold through. Most likely, Sony has already communicated to them a shipping schedule and volume expectations, and they've offered pre-orders for some percentage of the 2nd, 3rd, etc. shipments.

A lot of those people may cancel their pre-orders and go try and find one in the wild, though depending on demand it might still be worth having the pre-order.

Been meaning to post this in any hype thread, but for those of you going to a midnight launch for a PS4/XBONE, don't go alone. Safer to have someone there with you at all times. If nothing else, it's good to have company while you wait.

I got a call on Saturday morning from ebgames saying that I could pick up my PS4 on the 15th. If I fail to pick it up within two days I will be bumped to the second shipment.
I called them today and asked them if they were doing a midnight release at that store and she said yes and they will be open for 24hrs that day.
I asked how many preorders does this store have for the PS4 and she told me over 600!!!!! And that they are taking preorders for February! I said Gawd Dam..
I live in a town of 100k people, not very big by any means.
I have a feeling things are gonna get a little crazy this holiday..

JesusHChrist!!! That's nearly $250k in stock for one store to hold, are the 600 all day ones or total preorders upto February?

I can see a few stores & trucks getting hit in a few weeks.

it's 4th of July in my asshole
In one of the catalogues for one of the major retailers in Australia they are advertising both systems, though they have the PS4 saying they will have more stock in December. Think they have sold out of PS4's in Aus for launch.

I can't say too much other than I know a few people in the Gamestop chain and the reserve numbers at some stores would melt brains. Even if your not planning on picking one up until next year, pre-ordering now would probably not be a bad idea.

LOL, no.

Wii U preorders filled the initial shipments at most retailers and that was it, a week after launch it was in plentiful stock nationwide without really posting particularly impressive sales. On the day preorders opened at Gamestop it actually took several days for most retailers to even fill those tiny allotments up. Don't let GAF fool you, it was obvious from the begining that Wii U had zero hype behind it in North America. 3DS posted good but not particularly impressive numbers as well and Vita merely sold "Okay"-ish it's first month. Nothing horrible but still a small amount for a launch even in February.

I am so angry at myself for not getting in on this potential profit hype train, good golly am I dumb :(

I spoke to my local eb games here in Australia last week, mind you my suburb is small and the guy said they have 164 ps4's preordered and only 22 xbox's but I also read an article a few days ago saying Australians seem to be leaning towards Sony heavily this Gen so I guess that helps explain the huge difference

I thought about pre-ordering two units and selling one at a profit. I am confident that they will be supply constrained and sell for a profit on Ebay. But I really couldn't be bothered and I can't stand Ebay.

Same but I'll be selling my lone preorder lol

All to re-fund an XBO and PS4 purchase

I should have ordered multiple PS4's

I would estimate someone purchasing 3 consoles would by far cover the cost of their own console #1 with accessories, games and a year of PSN+ by selling the other 2.

I got a recent email saying jb (Australia) are getting anther shipment before Xmas. I rang them to preorder over the phone. The guy said there are plenty left. This was about 2 weeks ago.

Absolutely not: Launch excitement for all of these was very tepid.

Even on GAF, very few were hyped for Wii U launch (the same for Vita).

My bank account is going to cry when my 3 PS4s and my lone Xbone gets shipped but it will laugh at the end of the month.

Im currently working a part time job in a market (in Germany) where we sell everything from tea to parfumes to electronics. The town where i work has about 50k inhabitants and we are the smallest Store where you can buy consoles and games. Nearby are 2 Gamestop and 1 Saturn(biggest electronics retailer in Germany). We habe about 100 PS4 preorders (!) and the chief of our electronics departement expects to get about 10 consoles at Launch lol. Now if we eben have 100 i cant imagine how many preorders the bigger stores have.

Purely anecdotal on my part but here in Dublin (Ireland) people looking for PS4s are being told February at the earliest at all the usual stores.

Idk if this is the right place to say this but I have a KZ+controller+camera bundle preordered at a store in France (Fnac) which I no longer need. If anyone would want to take it throw me a PM and I'll ask the store if I can pass on my preorder. They ship worldwide.

North of england was being told February back in september but since then Sony have said they will get us all one by christmas, the thing is, PS4's are currently outselling games like fifa, battlefield and Assassincs creea at amazon and have only dipped below CoD in the last couple of days. Insane demand. Every PS4 made will be sold the day it hits the store this financial year for sure

Dat Ebay money! I kinda want one right away, but on the other hand I'll wait until there is decent amount games to play. I think many stores will have midnight launches with the KZ-bundle, seems like lining-up is only way to get PS4 this year if you haven't pre-ordered.

600? Holy hell thats alot of ps4 launch day. Im standing in line shit

Good thing about so many units being out there so quickly?....we should find out pretty sharpish if that case is up to keeping it cool.

..I don't mind Beta testing software, but Hardware?....never again.

People are missing the point where he said they're sold out until February. Those aren't all meant for launch day preorders. I doubt they'll get more than 50 or so launch day.

I still think the sales will be extremely frontloaded because of the crazy long lifetime of PS3. But we shall see.

Pretty much, people seem to forget the Wii-U launch and all the 'news' about it and just think the sales after it was the same happening in the launch. Just read Gamestop about the 500,000 'wait list'.

http://www.polygon.com/2012/11/15/3649734/gamestop-reports-high-demand-for-wii-u-consoles-games

How about 'complete sellout of pre-orders' in every store.

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/728008/wii-u-pre-orders-sell-out-at-big-retailers/

Now, not saying PS4 will be the same result as Wii U and I am certain it will do better AFTER the initial buying frenzy. But people taking this whole pre-order sellout '600 at one store' or whatever other news way to strongly based that no matter the system this kind of things happen with pre-orders selling out, wait list, 'hard to come by launch' etc, etc.

If Sony doesn't get their production into overdrive people will just take the Xbox one over the ps4 if they can't get them for Christmas

I think the key difference is that the PS4 is offering the same experience only bigger/better/faster that 160million+ (not factoring in for multi console owners here, probably more like 120million) PS360 owners enjoyed and I'd say there's at least 10-15million (perhaps many more) of those owners that are way past due and READY for a new system with better graphics, bigger games, a better controller, and a better online multiplayer experience (if Sony's and MS's take on PS4/XB1 online is to be believed). So yeah I think PS4 supply will be constrained at least until next spring.

Plus the WiiU did not feel like a generational leap, like... at all. And it still doesn't. It's been out a year and the games still feel like current gen and always will, not to mention next to zero 3rd party support.

I don't see PS4 going for $1500+ on Ebay, but I can easily see them hitting the $800-1000 mark if there isn't supply in stores on shelves within 6 weeks.

Scalpers might do great with this console after all.

I've already sold two target preorders for a net profit of $220. I'm not trying to flip these things for ridiculous amounts. Ebay is too much of a headache and you need to charge $650+ to turn a decent profit anyway. I sold them in-person via craigslist and did just fine. It's my first time ever scalping a console at launch, but it's also the first time I've had to plunk down over $1000 in one month for two consoles launching at the same time, so I felt like I needed to offset the sting of that a little lol.
