I hope I'm not speaking out of my ass here but I think you need to add your waist size (and keep it updated) for more accurate lenght travelled calculations.
I have added my waist size a few times but I fail to see how that has any relevance to how well the pedometer tracks real-world movement accurately.

I added the community that is in the OP, is that the one that people are still using?

Didn't seem to be very populated, and is there a way to see everyone else's results somewhere?

I"ve been looking all over Los Angeles for the fit meter today. No dice. Gamestop doesn't show it in their system yet. TRU doesn't have it. Best buy doesn't have it. No online availability. Only amazon. Has anyone else had better luck? I was trying to hunt down a balance board on Craigslist...

NVM: Found it at Frys. Had to ask the associate to pull it from the back because it's not on the shelves.

I really need to practice jumping on that obstacle course. First I was jumping without meaning to, then when I actually got to the jumping obstacles, I couldn't jump at all for about 20 seconds.

Strange. The package is small and wouldnt take up so much space. Looks like retailers really have no faith in wiiu related stuff.

You're a big guy.
I'm starting to have some major issues with the pedometer. I run about 3 miles per day, which includes a lengthy cool down walk for ten minutes or. On top of that I do a little walk to a juice and smoothie shop on the corner to get a rehydrating beverage. I don't know the exact distance to the shop offhand but its a good 6-10 minute walk each way.

Today after I did all of that and got home to sync the meter, it gave me a whopping 2.2 miles tally. Something is really off with it... and before anyone asks I keep it clipped to my belt or gym shorts on my right side, by my hip.

Anyone else see discrepancies of this magnitude?

Pedometers struggle with running. I do an 11 mile run and get a lower amount of steps than on a 5 mile walk into town. That is just how it is. Consider though, that I believe it measures steps and then extrapolates distance from that, and running takes a smaller amount of steps (hopefully anyway).

Where do you add that? I saw it pop up once when I didn't have time to add it but now I can't figure out how to get back there.

In case anyone was wondering about the problem I had with My Routine forcing me through scoring and commentary, I finally received a response from Nintendo this weekend to my polite but disappointed inquiry:

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and I apologize for the delay in our response. There isn't a specific setting that will change or disable the prompts you are seeing after each exercise. I can see that having the option to skip over them, or having them disappear after a few seconds, is an important feature you'd like to see added to Wii Fit U. I want to assure you that your comments will be added to our records and made available for other departments at the company to use as they see fit. I can't promise that such a change will take place, but we do take all feedback into consideration.

So, the usual. I think if enough people complained they'd likely put it into an update, but if it's just me, not likely 😄

That's unfortunate- I didn't know that. So this isn't just some flaw of Nintendo's Fit Meter...

It really does suck though because jogging is largely the brunt of all my exercise. It tragic to have an external device with the sole purpose of recording "away" activity, and not being able to accurately feed that back into the game considering the Fit Meter was designed for exactly that purpose.

I do recall them asking for height to calculate your BMI when you first start the game. Waist size wouldn't correlate with your stride length nearly as well as your height would, so it would be totally bizarre if they gauged distances from your waist size when they know your height.

Sorry if this was answered before, but...
Does the name in the menu changes from 'Wii Fit U (Free)' to just 'Wii Fit U' after syncing the Fit Meter?

Joined the Neogaf community late last night. Don't remember what my absurd 2 month goal was but let's do this!

Any suggestions of ready made intense sets to blow some calories each night? I want to be jumping straight into action for 50-60 minutes straight with as little interruption as possible.

Not so far, no. Mine still states Wii Fit U (Promo) in the menu despite the Meter synched to it.

I imagine if you ever de-registered your meter (for some reason) it would lock the software again. Each meter can probably only synch to one account, so this is likely intended to stop a group of people buying one meter and sharing it around to all get the software for free.

I have an issue.

I downloaded Wii Fit U at home (where I have Internet connection), now I am at Uni and can't connect to the Internet here - so I can't open the software! However I have ordered a Fit Meter. Is it possible to sync the Wii Fit Meter without an Internet connection?? I hope this is the case...let me know guys as I'm about the get my Fit Meter!

Thanks.

What do you mean by "I can't open the software!"? You'll need to launch it to sync the Fit Meter, and if a lack of internet connection prevents you from actually running Wii Fit then I doubt you'll be able to sync it.

I don't know shit about Wii Fit U but like the other dude said Pedometers measure steps. Primitive models only use a mechanical switch inside, so it even registers "steps" if you shake it in your hand. More modern models use microelectromechanical sensors with different axis detection for acceleration. They still have extreme flaws in detecting the distance you travel but are fine if you only walk with a very similar stride all day. If you run or jog or walk in varying terrain the result will be inaccurate.

Thats why runners or other athletes do not commonly use pedometers. They use GPS tracking devices and software (which update once per second), which have other benefits including pace, mapping overlay (to see where you went, what your time from point A to B etc was). Those devices usually also have a barometric altimeter to further get more accurate data.

When I run I use my iPhone and the Nike running app with GPS on, that's why I know the Wii Fit Meter is balls and I was expressing my disappointment... so yeah, I understand that standard pedometer tech is not as good as GPS and higher-grade 'meters, I guess I was just hoping it'd be a little more accurate for what I do. I don't even think the altitude tracking is that reliable. I actually live in a pretty hilly part of my town and yesterday I went up a couple of those hills and flights of stairs (walking- mind you), and when I got home it gave me a generous 6 feet. That's just grossly inaccurate and I simply don't know how to get the maximum effectiveness from it.

In other news, it seems like the North American NeoGAF community is kinda dying. Not many people playing when I sign on. Did everyone defect to Wii Sports Club?

Can someone suggest the best and cheapest way for an Aussie like me to buy a red x white metric Fit Meter?

Which countries sell metric and also have that color available? Canada?

And I'm guessing it doesn't matter if it's not PAL?

Wii Fit weirdness.

Went to do a body test this morning, have been using it since release. It looks like my wife and my profiles have been wiped. There is not historical use information.

I am going to delve a little deeper. Has there been an update?

My Wii Fit Meter and Wii Plus attachment just shipped from Amazon, yays! I finally got the hang of trampoline and I think I'll add to those saying it's probably my new favorite exercise. I could do that shit all day long.

We only have the black in North America, and I doubt they're giving us different meters in Canada than the US, so I'd guess the meters are all the same and whether your meter uses metric is probably determined when it syncs with the game.

Joined the GAF community! Uh... Are there many European GAFfers on there? Just me and Robin64 from what I can tell. I know the Wii U is doing phenominally badly in Europe, but I was expecting more people than this.

By the way my red Wii Fit Meter arrived today - for those asking, here is a picture or two of it next to my red Classic Controller Pro, the one that came with Xenoblade in Europe:

Definitely more of an orangey tone, or a more faded-out red. Not as vibrant as I was hoping for. Not that it matters as it's essentially hidden under a flab of gut right now. >_<

My first thought would be that fitness games just aren't that popular among "core gamers" or whatever the fuck you call most people on GAF.

There's about 70 people in there. I see a lot of Miis when I sign in, probably just slow in showing up on your system, or maybe people haven't signed in lately. Community has definitely slowed down.

Admit it you just wanted to brag with your glorious red Pro Controller :p. I'm so jealous. Welcome on board. Current number of European Wii Fit U Gaffers is 73. That's a pretty good number I think.

I try to be as active as possible in the community, but ever since I've gotten Wii Fit U I've been rather busy. I'm Mikkel in the community. And what I've been busy with is cakes...

I find it weird that my Wii Fit U doesn't auto-post anything to the community even though I have "gym community" turned on. I mean, I'm glad I'm not spamming but it's just weird.

Number next to the community != amount of users. It's all posts and yeahs.

I think it's actually the number of unique posters and Yeah-ers. For a normal game community, it doesn't represent the number of players... but in this case, since virtually everyone makes a post when they join, I think it does.

Except people also make multiple posts. I have about three, for example.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this meter is off by a lot. No way in hell I burned 600 calories just occasionally walking around the office. >>;
