Half of chapters in Ryse beaten in 90 minutes ?

We are no longer trusting developers on the length of the games they built and tested themselves?

Although it may be accurate in this case, developers literally exaggerate game length every other single day ever in the game industry. I have extremely rarely ever heard a case where a game dev gives an accurate accounting of game length, no matter who the dev is

Another visual spectacle with no substance. Probably worthy of a purchase in a year when you get it on the cheap.

Last impression I read says you don't need to input the QTE correctly and you'll still finish the guy off. What's changed?

Qtes aren't mandatory, don't like them don't do them. It's just a little extra if you do them and do them right you get a bonus. And Kinect stuff is optional, voice commands that are also mapped to buttons I don't think it's anymore complex than that.

I completely understand this but I wouldn't call a figure like 6.5-8.5 to a exaggeration. lol

I watched the twitch stream and it took 45 or so minutes to finish at least one of the chapters and of course it wouldn't be surprising if the chapters were different lengths.

I suspected they were full of it. In the recent stream it took 45 minutes to play through the first chapter of like 8. No way is it a 3 hour game.

Is there a way to skip the dialogue/FMVs? ~3-4 hours of actual button pressing doesn't sound unrealistic with another 4-5 hours of dailogue/FMVs piled on top.

I mean, developers almost always lie about the length of their games. Well, I take that back, developers always underestimate the skill of the average gamer and assume it will take them longer than it actually does. If a developer says 8 hours, it usually means 5-6 tops. If they say 15-20, figure around 12 hours. You'll only hit their mark if you're the type of player that plods through levels exploring every corner and replaying sections to get more perfect outcomes. Or if you're just not a very good gamer.

I'm not entirely sure. But the voice acting and presentation is so good that I don't know why anyone would want to. Especially since most seem to detest the way it plays.

The cutscenes were pretty short in what we saw of the twitch stream.(By short I mean not 5 minutes or more long.)

The executions have a mini-game and if you complete it correctly you get a bonus of experience, health, gold and something else. You don't have to do executions at all and executions can only be done after knocking down a enemies health.

With 100+ different executions and them being completely optional I am not really seeing the problem with the system. Also it sounds like on higher difficulties you're going to have to do a lot of parrying and rolling to survive.

I think a certain person named Aaron T Sparks is trying to point the blame for this at NeoGAF. That "pit of sewage" comment...

Naughty Dog said 12-16 for TLOU and that was pretty accurate for me. I don't know if they were accurate with other games though

But yeah, developers exaggerate all the time. They're trying to sell a game. Nobody want's to say a single player game is only 4 hours long

I mean seriously? If they wanted to lie they could have thrown out a much bigger number and what would be the point of lying when reviews will be out in days?

Why would they say 6.5-8.5 when they could just say 9?

Because most game completion times quoted by devs are generally exaggerations. They've got a product to sell, they're not going to give a low number are they? Hence my reasoning - a developer have to sell something and by that merit aren't sources worth trusting 90% of the time, and since this is Crytek then even less reason to trust them.

You know not everyone is a liar, we'll see soon enough but after watching the twitch stream I wouldn't doubt you could both play 8+ hours or run through it at 6 hours.

I think I'm going to play it at a higher difficulty so I have to parry and roll more to survive, I think these types of games are played better at a higher difficulty.

Yah I usually deduct about 20% from the stated length that a developer claims

Even though my expectations are low for gameplay in a Crytek game this game sounds like such a disappointment. So glad there's still DR3, Forza, and KI.

I'll get it when it's $20 or less to admire the visuals.

6.5-8 hours is pretty short for a $60 title.

How much replayability will it have?

COD & Battlefield have even shorter Single Player campaigns. This length seems decent enough for me. There is always multiplayer left afterwards.

Seems like that reviewer wishes to be done with the game rather quickly just so they can throw a number at it, instead of actually trying to enjoy the game. My guess would be that actual people playing it (not reviewers) will take longer, because they are more interested in the game itself since they invested money.

Time will tell though, so we just have to be patient and see what all the reviews show us.

Is this a bad GIF? Or is it an accurate depiction?
i'd say its a good gif, given of course the limitation of 256 colors.
what you see in the end, is a very fine red sandstorm, only washed out to 4-5 colors.
see the youtube video -> http://youtu.be/VqxKGwtAoKU?t=21m53s

Wait, so it's not a squad game?
who said ever that this would be a stupid squad game?
you can co-op at the colosseum, but that's about it for others doing the dirty work for you :)

This moment is just a part of the level's dressing and is not expanded upon? I honestly thought they were hiding all this cool squad stuff until near the game came out.

CoD & Battlefield are also games where the focus is on multiplayer much more than single player. I'm not sure if the same can be said of Ryse.

God, I hate this fucking fake squad trend since Call of Duty and other modern games where it's all the boring part of following dudes, but not actually getting to direct their dumbass AI to do shit. Always such a missed opportunity for player agency.

Well, take the minimum and divide that by two is probably the actual length. It's pretty much the same thing for all games. More so for linear games than open world. So when someone says that they beaten half of it in 90 minutes, it actually does sound a bit plausible.

How long did it take you to finish it?

Eh, impressions coming in aren't giving me the warm and fuzzy. Maybe it shocks the world but I'm not holding my breath.

The thing I hate is that visually it's stunning and really grabs your attention but what's the longevity? Is it worth playing more than once? Is that playthrough worthy of $60 dollars?

We'll see.
