Uncharted (PS4) announced, developed by protozoans and Druckmann's evil karma

You guys are being overly harsh on Justin Richmond. Not every single problem in UC3 was his fault. There were some questionable level and combat encounter design decisions and some parts of the game were certainly a little wonkier than they should be, but I'm confident that a lot of that came down to the fact the game was rushed to meet the release date they trotted out.

They would've heard a lot of the complaints from Uncharted 3 and I don't think they're going to make the same mistakes twice.

The haters can drown in their bitter tears.

Things I'd like to see:

They made great strides with TLOU in certain aspects that I'd like (and probably will) to see carry over to Uncharted:

- Feel of the weapons/hit reactions.
- Enemy AI
- Melee and seamless cover
- Bigger environments but on an even bigger scale considering Drake's ability to traverse vertically, allowing us to approach fights from different angles and multiple paths through each area.
- A longer campaign

I also want:

Lots of Elena! Hell, make her playable for a few chapters.
Maybe a slightly darker tone.
Introduction of something like I Am Alive's stamina system. That game could turn the simple act of climbing a wall into a nerve wrecking experience since you had to manage your stamina and pitons very carefully.

Other than that, let Drake keep doing what he does best.

The last ND Uncharted we got was back in 2011, and this new one won't be out until at least fall '14. That's three years separating the mainline titles, and people are complaining about fatigue? And on top of all this, ND just released a new IP mere months ago.

Some people are never satisfied.

People always need something to complain about. Comes with the territory.

I wasn't at all bored with UC3 when I finished it, and I started it pretty much as soon as I finished UC2.

Love the series and can't wait for this one now.

Uncharted 3 was a good game but there was something about it that prevented it from being one of the best this generation. I can't put my finger on it.

So the best team at NaughtyDog is NOT working on Uncharted. I feel some sort of relief.
Hope Director Bruce Straley is working on Tlou2 or -even better- a new IP

Really interested in seeing what people can pull out of the trailer. Based on the dialogue in it, I'm questioning if this game even involves Drake and the old cast.

No way they can turn surviving certain death with one handed finger tip ledge grabs multiple times per game Drake into oh golly I'm tired and can't hang on Drake lol, makes him look too weak.
But they have solid stuff to build on yea.

Never played the Vita game so I'm totally up for a new Uncharted game right about now. We just got a new IP from the studio, so it makes sense for them to return to Uncharted on the new console. All I ask is that they take the time to polish this to a shine. Something they did not do with Uncharted 3.

Can't wait to see Drake and Elena on the PS4.

People are stupid.

Golden Abyss has a better narrative than U3, the overall story is smaller in scale and doesn't loose that sense of proper progression as U3's story does in several places.
Most of U3 hate is a result of a clunky storyline which is bolted on to show the encounters which ND wanted to show. If they understand this and won't go the same way in U4 - it's gonna be ok.
Also - GA has a completely new cast beyond Nate and Sully which is important too.

Uncharted 3 story was pretty ropey to be honest. I like the human elements like finding out about Nat's past and interactions with Chloe/Elena/Sully. But the adventure story was pretty crap. That part at the end where the
Arab dudes rescue Nat from the kill zone on horse back
was beyond cheesy.

Exactly.
I'm hoping the extra time in preproduction (it was probably being worked on since U3) will make it a better game.

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
By the time the next game hits it would be 3~ years since UC3.

The amount of years between games isn't the issue. There could be a 10 year gap and the Uncharted formula would still be tired. Big set pieces don't wow people any more. The shooting in UC is mediocre at best and the platforming/puzzle elements are even worse. From a gameplay perspective UC is not good, and hiding mediocre gameplay behind high production values and big set pieces isn't going to work anymore. Unless the entire UC formula gets a massive overhaul with this game then the franchise will still be tired and played out no matter how many years there are between games.

Anybody else hopes its not about nathan and feels like his arc should end here? Well it would be fun if it were about some "competitor" Nathan caused him to go into prison. Now the Competitor is out and seeks revenge.

Love this, just like Shadow of the Colossus

i'd still be excited for a classic style game because it will look incredible but i hope the uncharted without a number or subtitle means they're rethinking a bunch of elements

announcing it so cryptically is sucky anyway. give us a tiny glimpse at least.

oh wow

many stories

On the one hand Im pleased that it's not just Uncharted 4 with same characters etc.

Not gonna lie though, pretty crushed that Naughty Dog is doing ANOTHER Uncharted so soon. Give me something completely new for this new generation dammit!!!

yeah...this is about as exciting as Donkey Kong Country Returns Again and Again: Now With Nordic Motifs.

Not bad outside of the stamina thing.

If they keep the same formula and jokes etc. Then it wont matter. It will still feel like something you've played before

I hope they mix it up

If they keep the same formula? Isn't that the whole point of sequels? & not using the same formula while using the name is a great way to piss fans off.

I'd guess we see the reveal for TLOU team's game at the 2014 VGAs about a month after Uncharted comes out, similarly to how Uncharted 3 came out in November 2011 and TLOU was revealed a month later.

I'm a little nervous since it's the uc3 director. But at the same time I'm excited to see what they can do on next gen. I just hope they come in guns blazing provide an awesome story and fun gameplay. No monster closet or wave after wave of bad guy groups like the 3rd provided. Hopefully it's gives us a chance to explore more.

Here is my perspective on the comments on Justin Richmond: I think they're unfair. I looked at his LinkedIn and it was the first title he directed. Previously, he worked on the great UC2 multiplayer (until they ruined it). Uncharted 3 was a step down from Uncharted 2 in a number of ways (pacing, encounter design, plot (not his fault), it shipped broken, etc) but I still think it was a pretty damn good game.

So I am not "cautiously optimistic" or whatever, I am looking forward to see Justin get another crack at developing a game.

And of course Amy Hennig has my complete faith.

Furthermore, I believe that this will be the last title in the series by this team. Straley and Druckmann worked on 2 uncharted games and then moved, and it is possible Richmond will do 2 uncharted games and then move. By the way, Straley and Druckmann worked on UC1, which is mechanically a far weaker game than UC3 ever was and they still produced UC2 with their second crack at the formula.

So yea another series clash for Sony. They didn't show The Order 1886 yesterday. I am guessing they will show both at VGX and E3. And of course Uncharted will overshadow The Order 1886.

Poor strategy
