What's the difference? I only played Demon's Souls. I thought Dark Souls was just a continuation of the series...?

Yes, because it will sell consoles.
Yes and no. Their basic mechanics are really similar, but Dark Souls has a single open world whereas Demon's Souls has a hub and five distinct "levels" that the player can tackle in any order for the most part. Their lore and atmosphere are also different.

Hope so. Soul form > ugly undead form.
The Dark Souls series is more like a spiritual successor. No plot continuation and the game plays in a more open world way. The gameplay mechanics are very similar though.

Meh. FFXV and KH3 reveals were pretty damn big, IMO.
We'll see. Things are different now. Sony is apparently holding a lot of things very close to the chest, so with the PS4's momentum likely to drive them into E3, I would expect a few more big reveals this year than normal.
Wishful thinking, sure, but what the hell. Hype train is already getting fueled for the long journey as we speak.

They seem to be holding back on announcements since PS4 sales have been sky high, before launch they were touting tons of exclusives but haven't said a word since.
Possibly moving into the middle of the year once supply outstrips demand they will lineup another announcement showcase, unless they wait until E3 and blow the lid off a ton of new games which could be their plan.

Yeah, First years of a generation are usually pretty intense for these companies so we might see something big for a change after all. KH3 would have been a megaton if we had gotten some gameplay or something real. Can't stand the way some of these companies announce games.

Continuation in the sense of a lot of similar mechanics and, imo, overall atmosphere i.e. the "Souls" modifier, sure. These are very different games however with different lore, different means of exploration (hub vs. open), different strategies stemming from how the game handles healing, etc...
This is admittedly an incredibly shallow comparison however. Bottom line is that they are different. Both are awesome.
Why not? Demon's Souls came out first.
And they will aim for that name recognition and position it as the first next gen Souls game.

From has two teams. We already know Miyazaki has been working on something.
I think at this point it's dead certain that From Software and Sony Japan are making a game together. Only thing to find out is the exact nature of the game...

I think the "Souls" would be seen as a modifier in the sense that there are core things you can expect from a "Souls" game. It's practically a sub-genre unto itself now.

It's a niche, but insanely popular and highly regarded IP on the internet. and sony owns it. Yoshida also loves the souls games. The thing is, sure they get Dark Souls free, but Xbox gets it too. so does PC. Demons Souls 2 would be PS4(PSV?) exclusive. which is far more important. as it'll sway a lot of souls fans towards PS4. because why get a platform with one dark souls, if you can get a platform with both?
I found Demons Souls to be slightly better. Not development wise but personally as a game that got me.. can't explain it..

1. Sony dropped the ball with demon's souls publishing wise which lead to ..
2. Dark Souls on multiplatform..
3. Sony has stated, they would not pay for third party exclusivity in a Microsoft kind of way.. ..
4. Why pay for Demon's Souls (Even if it is better) when Dark Souls is just as good and will continue to be made.
All sony has to do is sell enough consoles and have a good enough relationship with third parties to not allow Dark Souls to go first party to its competitor.
I think its horrible that Dark Souls was so hyped. Want a game like that? Buy a PS3 and Demon's Souls.. Its like that Quantum game for last gen that looked like Gears of War. Everyone said if you want a gears game get a 360. I said if you want a Souls game get a PS3. I do think people wanted to play Demon's Souls and couldn't being 360 only gamers and hopped on Dark Souls. I played some of it, it was only technologically better not a better game.

Fixed. I have been waiting for Demon's Souls 2 since I finished the first one. I can't imagine Sony not trying to capitalize on the success of this franchise after they dropped the ball with the original.
A team dedicated to creating a game on a single platform, taking advantage of the hardware and with creative and financial freedom would lead to an EPIC follow-up.

Shu seems to realise that passing on Demon's Souls was a mistake, so I would hope they aim to rectify that and make a proper sequel. Dark Souls was great too, but Demon's just resonated with me more. I'd love to return to Boletaria and revisit characters and places. I want to go to the Northern Land of the Giants, I want to save Garl Vinland's soul from torment and bring him back to redeem himself, I want to find
and kill him again, and I want to find Yuria and tell her she's awesome.

Is From Software a big enough studio to be making two games at once? I don't know much about them outside of the Souls games. And if it isn't From Software who is making a possible Demon's Souls II, who cares? I'm not sure I would trust another dev with the series.

I'm OK with a world in which we have two devs trying to make games with that particular design, but I wonder if they could do it justice without anyone from the original team. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be worried it would be...sanded down more than a little bit. But hell yeah, go for it.
