Do you think Sony will make any more Demon's Souls games?

There, there now... I'm sure it'll happen once your avatar gets a proper sequel as well.

More like; why wouldn't they?

It's a niche, but insanely popular and highly regarded IP on the internet. and sony owns it. Yoshida also loves the souls games. The thing is, sure they get Dark Souls free, but Xbox gets it too. so does PC. Demons Souls 2 would be PS4(PSV?) exclusive. which is far more important. as it'll sway a lot of souls fans towards PS4. because why get a platform with one dark souls, if you can get a platform with both?

It's no longer niche. It sold at least one million and then Dark Souls sold 2.3 million. Clearly the word is spreading. Demon's Souls 2 would be a legit AAA game. I don't see how any Souls fan wouldn't be salivating for true next gen game.

Would Sony even have the right to make such a game? I mean, they published the first one but I would imagine since they passed on the Dark Souls game, they lost the license.

They have the only right

To be honest, can't really get too excited if its not the same team.
Who says it wouldn't be the same team though? Demon's Souls was a joint effort to begin with. There are a lot of bodies at Sony Japan Studio, developers/programmers/coders, all or at least some of which were involved with the first Demon's Souls, that could be working in collaboration with a design team at From Software.

I can see it happening in some form. Sony nowadays are smart enough to realise that this will appeal to a lot of the hardcore undecided gamers.

Anyone have any idea about the PS3 vs 360 dark souls numbers? I assumed it sold better on PS3 cos it was essentially a sequel to a platform exclusive

It's quite odd to see so many people who prefer Demon's Souls. I thought the only thing it did better than Dark Souls was the intro.

I really couldn't get into Dark Souls myself, Demon Souls on the other hand. I played for 6 months straight. I loved it. Something just tugs me more.

As someone who has played none of the Souls games, can I get a list of what's the difference between the two?

The only meaningful difference is art style and story/world. Demon's is more fantasy horror, darker (ironically), more berserk inspired. Dark Souls is more traditional fairy tale kind of world, but with a grim dark twist.

The rest of the differences are just normal gameplay improvements that would have been seen in a hypothetical Demon's Souls 2.

I can see it now. Cinematic third person squad shooter set in the demon souls universe developed by WORLD FAMOUS SANTA MONICA STUDIOS.

I can't see Sony paying FROM to develop a sequel.

Next gen graphics would probably be enough to differentiate next Demon's from Dark souls.

I don't think I would get tired of the Souls games formula/combat anytime soon. Wouldn't mind a more light fantasy setting LoTR style, but if anything the next Demon's game will probably be even more sinister and scary.

i read somewhere that the area missing was the land of the giants or something

Miyazaki stated on multiple occasions that there is no connection between both games, Only the extrange Patcher easter egg. As a far as I know.

Just the 6th archstone mistery justifies a new game. Why you can not enter to it, what really happened? A new DS game could be easily a precuel.

I hope Sony realices this project ( A new DS game) can be profitable to them. PS4 DS game...would be perfect.

You mean what later became Anor Londo ;) Think about it.

The giants are on a totally different scale lol

The Northern Lands were once home to the race of mighty giants. They lived in relative peace with the rest of Boletaria, until the thick, colorless fog swept in and blanketed their domain. The Northern Lands were the first to succumb to the spread of Demons, and in an effort to contain the madness, Boletaria sent hundreds of thousands of its finest knights to the great kingdom to fend off the threat. The effort was for naught, and the Archstone connecting to this land was later destroyed as a last-ditch attempt to contain the chaos. It did not succeed.

It's already happening, all we're lacking are details and an official announcement.

Yes. Because even though the combat mechanics are similar the setting and gameplay dynamics are pretty different

-Hub World vs. Open world
-World Tendency Events
-Health from herbs
-Soul form/human form

There's nothing inherent about the name of the game forcing this structure. A Demon's Souls 2 could still ditch a hub, just as a Dark Souls 3 could embrace one.

Or just play the Ps4 version on your Vita :p

That's what I'll be doing.

Disclaimer: I never take my handhelds outside the house, so connectivity should be good.

Miyazaki isn't involved with Dark Souls 2 or any other known project, DemoNite's teasing post and other insiders hinting at it, put 2 and 2 together and it's not hard to figure out another Souls game is in development.

No From Software, No Souls game, for me.

What, Demon's Souls 2, from Nihilistic? C'mon son...

SCEJ developed the engine that Dark Souls and Demon's Souls runs on.

Sony could hypothetically build up a team within SCEJ to develop Demon's Souls 2 just as they have Team Gravity, Team ICO, and the groups that made Knack and Puppeteer.

You should be more concerned about who's directing/leading the project than the developer itself IMO. Itigaki did great things with Team Ninja while he was there but they also made Ninja Gaiden 3

the lack of l2/r2 would make this a nightmare.

Touch Screen/Gyro controlz!

Push system forward to kick!
Pull system toward you to hop backwards!
Jerk right or left to dodge in that direction!
Tap enemy to attack, double tap to heavy attack!
Lift the Vita to your mouth to drink flasks!

Not SCEJ, it's Phyre Engine, which was made and updated by London Studio. Well, I believe there's a Phyre Engine team.

Either way it's kind of irrelevant.

They'd be really stupid not to. Looking at Dark Souls and how successful it's been, Sony surely knows they need to do it. The real question is what developer will work on it? Japan Studio? Or maybe they could get From Software to do it? It would be a smart move for Sony and From if you think about it.

Cant really blame Shu. Mere months from launch and the game was reportedly a mess. No lock on, fps around the high teens and so many bugs in their combat engine. The TGS demo was not good. Anyone would have passed on the game. That From and SJ brought it together in the end was nothing short of amazing.

I love DaS, DeS and I loved Kings Field. So looking forward to DaS2.

I love that people will get to play more gameS like these in the near future.

I wonder if Bandai Namco has a provision disallowing From Software going back with Sony for Demon's Souls 2

From Software sounds like they still hold most of the cards cards and aren't really on Bamco's leash as a developer. Miyazaki's comments about them making the decision not to have him lead Dark Souls II were weird, yeah, but in retrospect it's not that hard to read it as him saying that Bamco wants a sequel but he can't be the lead director because he's busy with the new (Sony) project.

I think I'd prefer From Soft's exclusive game to be something different, and I absolutely adore the Souls series. We already have Dark Souls and From Soft has lots of talent - let them do something new while maintaining the multiplat Dark Souls franchise.
