God forbid if for some even the small amount of what's we've seen is interesting and exciting, and as a natural extension of that just knowing the press gets to see 40 minutes of GAMEPLAY is also exciting.

I think Derrick might just spontaneously combust in a fiery ball o' hatred if the previews and footage actually turn out good.

Sometimes I wonder what it must be like, living with a heart that's just a smoldering, charred black chunk of stone.

Man I can't see why anyone would be interested in this thread. I so don't care about this game. Now let me post 20 times to show how little I care about this!

Also: Sony fucked up by not releasing a gameplay trailer in January. Now parents will not buy this game for Christmas.

How can you fuck up marketing so bad?

No, nothing has been shown about the game. It's only getting any hype at all because it's a console exclusive. I would like to think people aren't so sad and desperate that a setting and nothing else is enough to get them excited for a game.

A new IP is worthless if the gameplay is just copying a dozen other similar games from the same genre. So until they show something there's no reason to be excited.

Ladies and gentlemen, our lord and savior Derrick says that the people are only excited about this game because it's an exclusive. It's not because of the games RAD has made, it's not because of the settings, genre, or characters. It's because it's only one 1 platform.

Let's ignore the upcoming announced games people are excited about that aren't exclusive and we haven't seen much of. They don't count.

We have seen gameplay screenshots, an E3 trailer, and Game Informer had a cover featuring the game and also did an entire piece about the game.

"Console exclusive"? It's a AAA next-gen exclusive from a developer with a great track record doing their first console game and it's also a new IP in a great looking setting. Dismissing it because you read the words third person shooter isn't being fair to the game.

That's like someone using the words TPS to describe TLoU and automatically defaulting to "it's the same as Gears"

what the fuck are you talking about? Get out.

So will this finally shut up those who keep saying this won't release in 2014?

Most def my hyped game of the year. The story just sounds interesting, and even if it turns out to be Gears of golly old England I don't care in the slightest.

in any case, whatever Derrick's feelings on this game (not sure he likes anything anyway), I hope we get to see more of the game this week.

I'm excited.

Lol he's joking. He's poking fun at derrick and other similar posters in the thread.

Although derrick, your posts are starting to meld into a highly concentrated ball of brooding negativity. You may want to quit gaming if you hate damn near every game so much.

Kind of excited... And yet I actually agree with Derrick. Third person shooter doesn't interest me.

I just want to be sold on it anyway.

Hi everyone, long time I didn't write here :)

First of all, thanks to the guy that said "assholes" to the members of the press that do their job and describe what they have seen in an alpha stage ;D

Joking aside, I'm confident I can tell you the embargo date (or window) tomorrow, it's a common use to show a game first to the press, because they can understand (or not, sometimes ;)) the potential of the game even if the game it's not finished and the gameplay shown has bugs and stuff like that.
The developer doesn't have to spend time to make a fancy video for us , plus there is usually a presentation explaining the main aspects of the game in detail with just slides .

Having said that, I will have a gameplay broll to make a long video preview for our readers (so other magazines) and I'm sure that Sony will release a couple of trailers before the embargo, one of them showing the gameplay ;)

Last but not least, if you want me to ask some specific questions to the developers, send me a Tweet (@Tanzen) and I'll try to do my best during my interview slot.

Stay cool and let's see if the game lives up to the hype it created!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose Rickroll is topical since the meme is from 1886

On Topic: i just want to see the game in action, purely because of the respect i have for that developer.

Maybe it wasnt easy, but 40 people is quite a lot for a game without voice acting and very basic, mostly procedural gameplay. I know that they've restarted it several times, i remember that.
What is your experience in game development?

Did he really bring RickRoll back from the dead lol...?

Anyway,I would be happy with a nice 10 minute of gameplay,I hope they show us bits and pieces maybe after the event...

OH YISSS!!!!

I lol'd.

Doesn't it get tiring of portraying yourself as angry all the time ?

It just sucks that every fucking thread has to devolve into what Derrick01 thinks looks cool, as soon as he starts posting in it.

Why do you people give so much of a fuck what he likes? He has displayed in his past behavior that as soon as other people enjoy something he starts hating it. Even if he was excited about something, as soon as you're also excited he stops being excited.

And it isn't necessarily aimed at anyone particular but man, just stop this futile stuff. :p

I finally got it. He is a Gamer Hipster!!!

I'm pretty intrigued, but I will admit I am worried about similarities to Gears. I liked the game but once I finished it I played the the multiplayer for a bit then quit.

Still, I'm very excited for the game based on the setting, so I want to learn more.

Hype is low on 1886 anyways. What's the biggest thread its gotten on here post reveal trailer? What, like around 20 pages I'm guessing? It's definitely not approaching unwarranted levels.

Personally I absolutely loved the gameplay of Gears.

If The Order is a GeOW clone but with big Uncharted set piece events, a steampunk horror theme and a strong story driven narrative then I will be very happy indeed.

I've put tons of examples earlier of games that were not safe at all.
The Order 1886 is actually very safe game. It has non typical setting and presentation, but everything about gameplay is very safe. Its basically Gears of War/Uncharted, its the safest hybrid for TPP game You can think of.
.

We've seen almost nothing about it, yet you are dismissing it out of hand because they shoot some things?

Yeah he is addicted to cars, but he has also complained for 7 years now that he wanted to make other games, especially RPG.
Sony didnt even greenlighted Tourist Trophy, because it was done after hours by few Polyphony developers :p
Fair enough, I agree.

I think they are not counting voice actors in devs count for Skyrim and they do for HR.
They definitely don't for Skyrim. About 83 additional actors it says. But they also don't for Heavy Rain. 6 months after the game shipped and after they laid off all the contractors and QA they were down to about 100 full time employees. Obviously some people also just moved on. Some slides here: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1013716/A-Challenging-Production-Heavy

At the peak they were about 200 devs + 80 actors working on Heavy Rain in-house. Cage: "And on Heavy Rain, at the peak, we were around 200 people. Plus 80 actors on stage."

*Inset cynical post here that insults anyone who could possibly be hyped for this game just because I like to be known as a Debbie Downer who can't possibly fathom why anyone would be excited for a game I'm not excited for.*

Funnily enough it's one of GAF's most anticipated judging by Shinobi's thread.

The press raving about an exclusive, cinematic shooter would be one of the least surprising things that could happen. I would be a fool to base my expectations and reactions on the comments of the casual gaming press.

They raved about TLOU, and that was a cinematic third person shooter. Look at how that turned out.

Eh. Did I say that game is bad or will be bad?

Its not a game thats worth buying console for me, doesnt mean that i wouldnt enjoy it.
I have exactly the same opinion about Uncharted, even though i really liked it.

Thats a lot.

I would normally say that we dont know if Q&A department was included into Skyrim dev count, but yeah :p
