SCEJA, I want to see how Minecraft will sell physically. The game is done on all of your machines. Get at it.

It's lazy and disingenous because it artifically shuts down discourse by casting negative implications. If you're genuinely confused then ask for clairification in a less demeaning way. Language counts.

Xbox One is then also a viable platform for Japanese 3rd party titles as evidenced by the fact it's recieving them. However that doesn't indicate the platform itself is viable in Japan specifically. Same as Germany or France or wherever else.

I feel I've been pretty clear about all this but if you're still having trouble understanding I can keep trying?
It's kind of strange to concurrently be so incredibly condescending while asking someone to be less "demeaning."

I'm not speaking to some definition you're apparently railing against.

A platform is viable for complementary goods, not simply because its receiving them, but because a sufficient business case can continue to be made for producing those goods for the platform. When that business case can no longer be made; the market is not sufficiently important, the net present value of the product sales isn't positive and/or sufficient when weighed against other opportunities, when whatever benefits outweigh the added complexity of an additional SKU, when there's no strategic merit in producing the SKU and so on, then the goods cease to be made.
I don't see anything particularly unreasonable about this. How else does one define whether a platform is viable for associated content?

Furthermore, what third party titles will it continue to receive in Japan considering it's proving itself neither a viable product, nor a viable platform for third party titles or any titles for that matter? Batman Arkham Knight is an example where clearly a business case can't be made for a multiplatform release. Even the benefit it has in its favor of being a port-twin with the PS4 can't overcome the negative implications of the piss-poor sales it will receive.
It's also a particularly distinct market, with very distinct tastes, which publishers tend to look at in isolation, whether that's Western or local publishers.

Germany and France aren't considered discretely in making platform decisions, I thought you concurred with that. While those territories have their quirks, for instance the continuance of strong physical retail PC sales in Germany, and stronger Nintendo/Japan-o-centric series in France, publishers consider those markets as part of "Western markets."
The platform is viable in "Western markets" and by that virtue will continue to be considered as viable as a product for these third party content providers and have complementary goods produced for it in those countries.

There is no risk of Ubisoft not releasing the next Assassin's Creed on the XBO. There is no reasonable way one can suggest that there isn't a good business case for releasing the next Call of Duty on the XBO. It's entirely viable for these products and their producers.

No MH4G new 3DSLL bundle or download sales from Media Create. =(

- MH4G sellthrough: 85.4%
- new 3DS cover plates: 19,000 units sold.
- best selling cover plates: 37 and 38-Monster Hunter, 4-Yoshi and 24-Wood.
- No cover plate sold more than 10% of the total, implying a mostly even demand.

weekly VS.

Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 96 - 1,927,239 / 2,267,019 -339,780
week 97 - 1,932,346 / 2,278,037 -345,691

the gap will probably increase until MK8 bundle (GC every week over 10k)

XB vs. XBO
Code:
week 05 - 184,935 / 31,855 -153,080
week 06 - 190,092 / 32,773 -157,319

at least it will sell more than Apple Pippin....

PS3 vs. PS4
Code:
week 33 - 982,947 / 717,338 -265,609
week 34 - 996,349 / 727,221 -269,128

despite the new white colour, the gap is still increasing

PS4 vs. Wii U
Code:
week 33 - 717,338 / 996,825 -279,487
week 34 - 727,221 / 1,007,762 -280,541

Wii U had a sales decline due to New Mario + Nintendoland incoming bundle, so the gap should decrease in the incoming weeks (PS4 needs to stay over 7-8k of course)

3DS 2013 vs. 2014
Code:
week 40 - 3,254,620 / 1,625,142 -1,629,478
week 41 - 3,497,400 / 1,888,152 -1,609,248

Pokemon X/Y launch week is similar to 2 new models on market (total : 4) + a dedicated bundle (MH4G); next week 3DS needs at least 164k to balance last year week

Stop what? You don't see anything remotely condescending in the way you responded. I think I've been relatively cordial, considering how adversarial your tone has been, especially considering my initial general foray into this discussion and querying of whether people were simply looking for an argument wasn't explicitly directed at you.

The comment was directed at any implication being made that the XBO isn't a viable platform for third party products. The reality is that it is, under reasonable definition of what makes a platform viable for complementary goods.

You're right. Enganging you in any way invariably turns out to be a mistake. I'm stepping away from your lovingly cordial demeanor right now. Happy Sales-Aging.

Anyway, in those comparisons posted eariler, it may actually not be set that the PS4 can stay over 7-8k in the next weeks. Well, when's the next game?

It's only been 2 days (´・ω・`)

Thanks for posting these! I'd be really interested in Wii U's current week vs Vita and even PS3 if it's not a ton of trouble. I think Wii U is could follow a similar trajectory as Vita...just a hunch though.

I can do both, no problem
just I think Wii U and PS3 won't match any time so it's a gap that will become wider and wider by the time goes on

Anyway, later I'll post both ;)

Today was the day that new shipment for MH4G was supposed to arrive, after the announcement of more than 2 millions shipped and digital on Wednesday (and sold out almost everywhere that day).
That's the situation in big stores in Tokyo:

Bic Camera (Shinjuku) Urgent shipment arrived 緊急入荷!! (the employer is restocking the stand)

When they say urgent shipment, the meaning is that the shipment is not that big. Sold outs are very possible soon. I will have to check this weekend again.
New 3DS is sold out everywhere and every model. Next shipment is supposed to arrive tomorrow (Will be urgent too?)

Could Youkai Watch 2: Shin Uchi reach 2 million LTD being a third version? I don't think so but seeing the preorders, stands... I don't know anymore :|

And I was pretty sure that Pokemon ORAS would sell more tan Youkai Watch 2 but... it's going to be pretty close unless Shin Uchi cut the legs of the other 2 Youkai Watch versions.

I don't have the numbers in hand but I think that 3DS 2014 SW LTD will be bigger than 2013 SW LTD, right?

N3DS still sold out, even the normal one..? I wonder if manufacturing two new models is somehow creating problems to Nintendo (I can't see other reason for a 70k sold out debut)

Nice pictures, they give us a flavor of how the situation is in Japan.

I didn't think MH4G was going to be that big. 2m+ the first 4 days and sold-outs everywhere with urgent shipments means that the game is going to do 500k+ in next week's MC numbers, which would be more than MH4 (which was also supply constrained).

Its either that or they were going conservative with their production considering this when it comes down to it its still just a hardware revision.

So according to Media Create, MH4G sold roughly 85.40% of the initial shioment during the first 2 days (compared to ~94% for MH4).

They expect MH4G to reach 2m next week (well, doh, thanks Captain Obvious :p).

They're talking about the N3DS launch as some sort of comeback after the 50% YoY drop from the past few months.

Apparently, most popular plates were n° 37 / 38 (Monster Hunter) and n°4 (Yoshi).
N°24 was also popular, despite its high price.

So we finally got some scans, and a new Yu-Gi-Oh game is coming this winter. The strange thing is the section that states the platforms it is coming out on only says PSP, but down the bottom in a separate area says you can also play it on PS Vita.

Does this mean the PSP version is a retail release, and the Vita version is download only? Thought it was strange since I've never seen platforms announced like that before.

No, it simply means you'll be able to play the PSP version on your Vita if you go digital.

It'll easily sell 2m, just probably not this year due to launching so late.

yeah i think 2014 sw will top 2013, so many big games coming out this year and YW1/YW2 will also add to that.

I wonder if this was a shelved game from ages ago they decided to update a bit and finish.

I'm not under the impression Konami has actual handheld development anymore and a PSP games suggests they were trying to do this in the quickest and cheapest way possible.

lol I was doing the same thing waiting for numbers.
They might update it once its been a year or might not.
It was updated in March 2013, so we are already past that barrier.

'Next week' as in the next week's report or 'next week' as in the days 20-26?

Because the former is not obvious, it's impossible if it has a similar drop as MH4.

Please, read the thread before posting.

I don't normally call people out on it, but since you're posting mistaken information...

- MH4 sellthrough was 91.96% (not 94%)
- Media Create expects MH4G to cross 2 million on its 3rd week or later.

Can you remember what are the totals for Minecraft currently? Really where are the physical releases for Minecraft SCEJ...

Cool, thanks! I figured Wii U vs Vita would be pretty even. Will be interesting to see going forward. Wish it could carve out a 3rd party niche like Vita, but it seems that niche is just Nintendo games lol.
