PAL Charts - Week 8, 2015

I don't know if I will enjoy it but my friend did.

Besides the game length, what else is wrong with this game? Just curious.
Actually... there is nothing wrong with its game lenght.
But some people didn't like the Quick-Time-Events. The Order: 1886 has a lot of them.

The game has quite a lot of shortcomings and the game's length is definitely on the short side. We're talking 7-8 hours, which of 4-5 hours is pure gameplay. This isn't far from the average these days. However, most games these days have additional modes outside of the single player mode or an upgrade system to sustain replay value. The Order 1886 has neither of these. There's a 7 hour single player campaign. That's it.

It seems there is a bit of a disconnect between what une reviewers are saying and how people are enjoying the game.
The Order OT is full of positive reviews and impressions, and the game is still doing well on amazon (sold out and only 3rd party sellers with it currently) and it has a review of 4/5 for feedback on the site.

There's isn't a big disconnect. If you read the OP you will find tons of criticism and people who gave the game a 6/10 etc. I'm just going to quote myself form a previous post:

I think in this case (and most cases) there's not a huge difference. Reading the OP I see tons of people giving the game 6/10, 7/10 and 8/10. So the average is probably around 7/10 which is about 0.5 away from the meta. Fanboys always get defensive when an exclusive scores "low", so they automatically score the game higher than the average (just to give out a FUCK YOU THIS GAME IS GREAT (even though most of them deep inside agree with the average score), I DON'T CARE ABOUT REVIEWERS (they do)), which explains the slight difference.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I don't understand. New releases always occupy the 1st & 2nd positions ? When Fifa comes out and stays at number 1 for 4 weeks in a row. Will you be moving out ?

Its about MH outselling Zelda - thats not something we would have expected a while ago. Europe is embracing the Monster Hunter lifestyle.

Some random notes for Belgium.

Note that the XBO launched in September 2014 in Belgium.

Q4 2014
• Hardware market up +23,6% in Q4 (YoY)
• Software market is down -12,9% in Q4 (YoY)

Best selling systems
1.) PS4
2.) Wii U
3.) XBO

Q3 2014
• Hardware market doubled it's turnover (YoY)
• Software market is down -32,9% in Q3 (YoY)

PS4 sold 5 times more than XBO

Q2 2014
• "The sales of games hardware have risen with 60,6%" (I think this is Q1 -> Q2 rise)
• "We still notice a small loss of 0,9% in the sales of games hardware" (this is probably YoY)
• Watch Dogs was by far the best selling game in Q2

• PS4 accounted for 50% of hardware units sold

Q1 2014
• PS4 accounted for 1/3 of hardware units sold
• Video game market down -24,6%

Quite frighting that PS4 got more pie slice (50%) than before Xbox One out (was 1/3).
Almost like Xbox one help PS4 sell better.
Had a typo, that was Q2 (April - June), XBO wasn't out yet. ^^

XBO launched in Q3, but got outsold 1:5 by PS4.

Edit:

Some more research. ^^

Belgium January - May 2014
Software: 39.000.000 €
Hardware: 34.000.000 €
Total: 73.000.000 €

Software: 1.070.000 units
Hardware: 120.0000 units
Total: 1.190.000 units

That's ~24.000 hardware units per month, let's assume that's also the number for June (maybe more because Q1->Q2 rise was 60,6%), so we have at least 144.000 units for Q1 + Q2.

So, PS4 probably sold 63.000 or more units in Q1 and Q2 in 2014 (Belgium).

We have a maximum for The Order 1886 in UK.

The latest online issue of MCV magazine has the February 2015 (January 25th to February 21st) top 10. And The Order 1886 is behind Majora's Mask 3D. So, first two weeks of MM 3D > The Order 1886's first week. That should mean a debut lower than 30,000, around 26,000 I think but I'm not sure 100%.

I mentioned this in the last thread you posted that quote, but there is a disconnect, you're just intentionally or unintentionally ignoring to see it. For example, in this very quoted post, you completely disregard the many 8.5 and 9/10 scores the game has been getting from GAF'ers, in order for the average to better suit your narrative. Lets be honest here, those 2/10 and 4/10 reviews that the game got from the press, are pretty much non-existent, complete outliers when it comes to GAFer consensus, whereas the 8/10 and 9/10 scores are not. No one is saying that the game does not have shortcomings (imo it has many), but there does indeed appear to be a disconnect between general gamer sentiment and feedback towards the game, comparative to some of it's critical reception.

As an extra point, Webhallens internal charts, has Zelda for the 3DS ahead of The Order, so it could be that they charted really close on the GFK charts as well,

...Actually, I didn't notice the update about Evolve and Zelda sales in the first page of the thread. I thought what we were saying about Evolve (40,000 at debut) was still our best estimate. Sorry, my bad.

http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=153302054&postcount=29

Thus

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D first week - > 23,763
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D second week - > 7,129 (-70%)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D LTD - > 30,892

So, The Order did lower than that in its first week, but it should be around 30,000 units sold. Probably slightly more, but without a more concrete number, it's difficult.

Evolve didn't do as bad as we thought since it is above Grand Theft Auto V. We can also deduce that The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D sold over 27,440 units in its first week. The problem is that we don't have a maximum upper range, this means that we can't have an accurate estimate for The Order 1886.

The Order was figured to sell more than Evolve (individual formats) in UK right? If so not only does The Order like like a low debut but Evolve must have been really bad although perhaps in total with two platforms managed a bit better overall. That's two fairly weak launches in UK if your guidance is right.

EDIT: scratch that just saw above post. So Evolve did better in total but still looks pretty weak compared to other launches we've seen.

I wonder if we can play on MM 3D being higher than each Evolve SKU week one and then lower than both PS4 and One SKUs the week after (while knowing % drops for both games) in order to get more accurate estimates.

Evolve first week - > 56,000
Evolve PS4 + One first week - > 54,320
Evolve One - 27,360
Evolve PS4 - 26,960
Majora's Mask 3D - > 27,360

Evolve second week - 19,040
Hypotesis: splits being the same as first week
Evolve One - 9,302
Evolve PS4 - 9,166
Majora's Mask 3D - 8,208 < x < 9,166

Thus

Majora's Mask 3D first week - 27,360 < x < 30,553

Majora's Mask 3D LTD - 35,568 < x < 39,719

At least, we should be sure that The Order 1886 sold less than 40,000 in its debut week.

The Order 1886 appears to be doing quite below Infamous SS from 1 year ago despite having a much bigger PS4 install base. That's not a good thing.

It isn't a sequel. So it should perform below Second Son initially. Next week we will see how much the quality effected the sales by looking at the drop-off.

No matter, it will most likely drop next week, if not for the poor reviews, then because of the amount of used copies sold instead of new ones.

The IP is certainly new, but the competition is non-existent and the install base is quite a bit bigger now. Now lets see what happens next week and if the metacritic ratings have any relevance on the legs.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z - 5,434.

That's more than better than expected, that's sodding amazing given the harsh reviews. Even if it were getting 10/10's across the board I'd have expected a bigger drop than that.

That is pretty good as it's almost a 60% minimum, we'll have to see if someone can work out the range of the week 1 sales based on that as if it only did 30k first week, 15k would put it in expected second week norms while a strong debut would make that 56% pretty damn special.

Salt levels at nuclear levels. My god man, calm down.

What? Bundles and price drops is what made it return to the charts last time. What indication would there be that this would be any different this far down the line?

Not a bad drop for 1886, lower than I expected but any hope of it having 'legs' seems unlikely.

Surprised to see DC back, but given the position and the time of year, i doubt it sold very much. You only need to look at Horizon 2 its slow ascension in the charts to somewhat confirm this...

Still, seems like Horizon 2 might have a legit crack at the top ten at this point...

Horizon 2 still selling very good. Seems to have a very good word of mouth. Driveclub probably discounted again (or even bundled?).

Yeah, The Order's second week drop is better than expected. It should result in less than 20,000 units sold (given few days ago's extrapolation), but maybe we can estrapolate more accurate numbers this week?

Still, going by Amazon.com, it seems the game has quite better legs in Uk than in US (that and TheShogun's posts).

The Order seems to be doing pretty good in europe.
Should stay no. 1 this week in Germany with all the ads and bundles it's getting.

Hopefully sells enough for a sequel (with better pacing).
