1/2 Switch to me is the only move Nintendo has made that is still in 'idiotic Wii U mode'.

The cover and in-game content looks terrible, the hook is so much weaker, and the game has has no compelling gameplay.

Switch Sports would be a 2006 nostalgia throwback for many people, and could be the ultimate party game. Heck even just ports of tennis and bowling could be instant party favourites.

Payday is underperforming.
GTA wouldn't get anywhere.

I mean I guess they are in a similar genre. "Casual motion games" but that is the only relation. 1 2 Switch is closer to Wii Play or a WarioWare game that it is to Nintendos motion sports series. I could see a Switch Sports selling over 1 million easy.

I know wanting a game to underperform, but good.
It's a mediocre effort that could've either been a built in tech demo. Hopefully sends the right message as to what kinds of games they should make
...though I do think a Switch Sports with actual effort could do well.

1-2 Switch probably underperforming based on Wii Sports expectations but considering how in Japan, it is selling on launch nicely together with Zelda(The legs had been not kind though.)

I can said that 1-2 Switch had did it wrong in attracting new people into trying Switch.^^

Wii Sports was a great game, 1-2 Switch ain't. It's goofy fun when you are drunk but it doesn't have general appeal. Dunno about the potential for a hypothetical Switch Sports but 1-2 is not a metric to gauge that with.

The Biased Gaming Media stanning for Nintendo did him in.
Is this referring to his comment about the media favouring Nintendo or something? Because that was a parody of a post someone else once made following the high review scores for Zelda. He was responding to my post which was also a parody ('nobody caring if the game was called the legend of Belda') of possibly the same person.

.... Did I get him banned? :(

Looks like more Switch restocks are going out today.

I've seen several reports from various Animate stores, Toys r Us and smaller niche stores getting Switch stock in today.

This is my local Yodobashi. People are lining up in anticipation for a Switch replenish but it doesn't seem like yodobashi will be getting any today :(

Apparently someone reported online there was restocks, so people starting lining up. Also heard on twitter that there are groups waiting by on other Yodobashi stores to jump in the moment they start selling Switchs.

Damn.

Sorry, double post.

I heard SQEN meet shareholder today and Miyake said "development DQXI Switch version was surprisingly not smooth".

Interesting. Wonder what that means exactly. Guess we'll find out some time after PS4/3DS launch but that definitely puts a more negative light on the silence.

Edit: Although tbh it still probably has nothing to do with said silence :p. But it does make it sound like it'll be a while after the initial release.

Just curious, have you translated this yourself? If not then i think we need someone who can read Japanese to give a comment on this as running it through various online translators actually changes it from "not smooth" to things like "surprisingly difficult" and "surprisingly great". Now whether this means "great effort" is only something we'll get from someone knowledgeable about the language and context.

The way I read it they haven't even started. Even the planning was more time consuming than they could afford so they're concentrating on the July release of the first two versions for now. But they're still contemplating the eventual process of the Switch development.

I love the charts, thanks for for continuing to provide them. Fascinating watching the trajectory of the Switch against past/current generations, both handheld and home consoles.

Thank you.

The way I read it they haven't even started. Even the planning was more time consuming than they could afford so they're concentrating on the July release of the first two versions for now. But they're still contemplating the eventual process of the Switch development.

Yeah, that's how I read it, that the planning was unexpectedly difficult and now are just concentrating on PS4 and 3DS. Nothing about developing for Switch being a difficult process.

Mario007, it is often used to mean very, or difficult, oh no, in Japanese.

Considering how close chinese and japanese are, my chinese knowledgeable tells me it should be something along the lines of "big change".

In Japanese it more specifically means terrible or stressful. It can also be used with other adjectives to mean "very".

Well it still means the Switch version isn't far along, quite the opposite.

Not that direct letters LOL

Taihen often mean "awkward", "difficult", "seem not as good as I/we feel".

Switch version is pretty far off I see. Can't say I'm surprised. People kept saying they don't want to show Switch version because it would affect the sale. Truth is, this is SE, you can trust them to show you the concept art of stuff they are releasing in 2025.

Judging by a Japanese reply to that tweet which Google translates as "switch will be impossible (haha)" i think we can assume it says something negative lol.

Haha was just trying to help.

Chinese knowledge is very useful for familiarity with kanji as a word form, being able to recognize characters and how to write them. It is a lot less helpful in actual meaning because there are many cases where they are completely different. Japan steals our words and can't even get some -colors- right!!!! :)

Can you give a Dragon Quest example for such an occurrance? This kind of generalization isn't even funny, it's just an excuse to think less.

This is the company that said they are releasing DQXI on Switch in 2015 and now still in the planning stage. Need more examples?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
1 2 Switch is underperforming.
Switch Sports wouldn't get anywhere.

lol come on.
We really are comparing completely different games now for no reason ?

Also considering what type of product 1-2 Switch is at full price its doing everything BUT underperforming. Thats like saying SE should cancel DQXI Switch because Seiken Densetsu Collection underperformed.

They announced the game two years ago, gave a deadline for release and are just two months late. That's hardly anywhere near 8 years which you suggested.

The Switch version will be a port so it will take much less time. They also didn't show concept art for it. They haven't shown anything.

And one example wouldn't make a pattern. If anything, this game has had a quick turnaround. That they aren't working on the Switch version yet just means they know their priorities, getting the versions with a release date out in time.

I wonder if Switch version will be put out as a "complete" version then to try and get people to double dip/make it more attractive despite being later.

At the same time, say it is UE4 version:

-For PS4 version owners, a portable version of what they already have.

-For 3DS owners, a new portable version

Would that be enough to resell the product?

IDK. They did a lot of work to make the 3DS game attractive side-by-side with the PS4 version, and I think it will pay off (at least quality wise, and probably sales wise--the whole 2D/3D thing). I wonder what sort of mindset they are going to take to the Switch version.

Don't forget DQIX was originally targeted 2007 release. it was pushed to 2008, than March 2009, finally July 2009. Also keep in mind how late DQVII came out during PSX life cycle. It came out after PS2 launch. DQX was confirmed in 2008, yet people only learned it's a MMO in 2011. It came on fucking Wii in 2012 which was pretty much dead at that point. Let's not pretend Enix side is much better than Square when it comes to scheduling.

Once again I'm going to say the same thing I've been saying for maybe 6 months now. Concerned Nintendo fans here are just overthinking it because your perspective is tainted. There is no conspiracy or complicated mystery here. They developed two games in parallel for two very different platforms. They announced a commitment to support a third platform as well to cover all the bases they need to in Japan. That's all. It's business. With the development of the game taking longer than expected, it is obvious they would want to focus on the main platforms and release those first. Are there likely other deals with first parties with regards to marketing and so on? Absolutely. But that's how every big publisher these days operates.

DQXI Switch is not ready to be shown. DQXI Switch will most likely be a port of the PS4 version with maybe some extra bells and whistles to make up for lower technical specs. It will come out later and it will be full price. I think we can reasonably expect all that. There is no immediate rush for S-E to start marketing it before they even release the game on other platforms. The Switch userbase will only increase with time. If the game is good, word of mouth will make people who don't already have it more willing to buy it on a brand new platform that's popular. Even if word of mouth is lukewarm, it's still DQ.

As for the "omg protect people from spoilers" thing people keep throwing around to insist that the Switch version has to be close... well... lol no one really cares. It's just something Horii says. He's not even the producer of the game. Business and development realities change what Horii can "want". Remember that Horii also wanted DQIX to be somewhat realtime action based. He also once said that DQ will always be only on the platform which sells the most in a market. He also willing works with a far right war crime denier.

Okay maybe the last part isn't relevant. :)

It's not about conspiracies; when they talk about having difficulty with the development I'm wondering if it's because they started out with an old version of UE4 on Switch, or if they ran into a hardware bottleneck somewhere, and what kind of work they had to put in to get around it. Etc.

Wow
The two biggest (only?) third party games on switch are ending up as disappointments
One is a late port of an underperforming spinoff even less relevant after the reveal of the true new mainline game that is skipping get the console
The other is becoming get a ghost of a project that will at best a very late and inferior part due to logistic and technological issues

And remember our Mr. Horii was want it to be PS4 only.
Astists really can't do businesses LOL

Anyway, 4m, for glory of jRPGs.

It was obv. that DQXI Switch is nowhere near to be released....some people were expecting a release this year, my earliest estimate was Spring 2018, maybe for Golden Week and even this would be pushing it. But it would make sense if they are planning to have the Switch version ready for a 2018 western release.

There is no point for SE to release the game on a system with a sub 5m userbase that is still fighting shortages.

There is no easy - port massive PS4 RPG to Switch - button SE realized that early on and focused on 3DS/PS4 so they can be out by 2017. DQXI on Switch was never a priority - why would it be, considering it was greenlighted when we didnt even know what Switch was or how it would perform.
