MS banning users over Halo 4 DLC debacle

edit: Issue has reportedly been resolved:
Just updated in the Waypoint official Ban Thread
There was a situation yesterday (Sunday) in which less than 200 Halo 4 users were being incorrectly banned from accessing certain parts of the game (not banned from Xbox LIVE as a whole), and we have since resolved the issue. All players accounts impacted are working as normal.

BAN is from Halo 4 "Online Features" Only

Not sure if this will blow up or if these are "isolated incidents," but some HaloGAF users brought this up in the Halo thread. It seems those who downloaded the Crimson DLC for free during Microsofts screw up are catching a ban in spite of the pretend promotion and its attempt to save face.
Apparently playing the game split screen in the Crimson DLC playlist is causing people to get perma banned.

Not sure how true that is or how accurate those conditions are.

EDIT: Should have said, I randomly saw that while checking out Halo Waypoint. It was a thread over there but it didnt gather too much traction. Was watching some of the bonus stuff for FuD which actually is cool.
No joke, it LITERALLY just happened to my roommate.

HaloWaypoint users talking about their bans over the DLC here: https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst135680p107_The-Official-Halo-4-Ban-Thread.aspx

tl;dr dlc debacle:

MS provide early specialisation code as per promotion that ran until Nov 20

Code has a glitch which allows users to download Crimson Map Pack for free

MS embrace the glitch and tells users to download, allowing them to play for a limited time

MS begins banning said users who who were encouraged to download their "glitch" DLC

Statement from 343i:

We are not permanently banning players for previewing or purchasing the Crimson Map Pack. We are currently investigating the recent reports of permanent matchmaking bans.

We will provide further updates tomorrow. Thank you for your patience.

My guess is there won't be any promises to fix this quickly like street date breaks. I'm wondering if anyone will be unbanned?

Ugh, for real? I guess if I get banned I'll be done with Microsoft, even with all the money I've invested into the Marketplace and such. I'm slowly shifting over to PS3 anyway since none of my friends on 360 are playing anything with me.

Kinda of a weird stance..

Halo 4 shouldnt even have the right to ban players. Its not even a good enough game. Literally every feature is broken in some way and it actually has less features than the last Halo's. Not to mention so much of the game was outsourced to other companies. MM takes a year to get me into a game which is never ever that closely skilled of a matchup.

343 is terrible.

Probably saw the thread with that Gaffer bought another Xbox 360 after having his console banned and figured this could help them sell a few thousand more consoles.

I kid.

What exactly is the reason for the bans? When was the map pack free? Was there an exploit? Crazy stupid regardless of what happened. If they fucked up, why ban the users...

Banning people for playing the game early and now banning people for playing DLC given out for free accidentally. Fun times in Halo 4 land.

Let's see people come in and defend Microsoft again like they did when that other guy got banned for playing a legit copy early.

Maybe it's best to not play Halo 4 at all. You never know when you'll run into a mistake made by MS, and get perma-banned.

And this is why we need consumer protection rights group for DRM crap and these forms of abuse over a company's own mistakes.

But it was not a legitimate download!

Of course it was. They said it was free for 14 days and we have passed one week. Even people who are owning the map pass are getting banned.

edit: appears it's just a ban from Halo 4?

Yes.

But Microsoft messed up and made it free to anyone who got the game before november 20th. (Cost 0MSP for them). No one knows what the hell is going on.

I see.

Well I downloaded in-game, I was expecting to be free since I had the LE and also checked a thread on GAF about this DLC.

Not that it's excusable either way, but it looks like it's affecting people who had legitimate Season Passes and downloaded the maps as well. Holy fucking goddamn shit what a mess.

This is why having a shitload of different DLC/codes/promotions like pre-order DLCs from a dozen different retailers, double XP codes, separate specialization codes, season pass codes, etc IS A BAD FUCKING IDEA.

Downloading free content?
Sounds like a shady deal. They knew what they were doing.

It is quite funny we have reached the point where we need to second guess anything offered free on these services.

Well, not funny to those banned over something so innocuous of course, just the state of things.

That's fucking entrapment :lol

OP, probably chuck this in the OP for those who aren't aware

I'm tired of myself(and probably others) getting fucked over by Microsoft. I don't think I've bought anything from the Marketplace except demos for about 7 months.

First I get locked out of making purchases for some odd reason, I shrug it off.

A few months later, I get my account hacked and lose about $200. Costumer service told me to keep whatever was bought and that they'll make my account silver and give me the months they took off. So, basically, they told me to pound sand. This was the third rep, btw. I start getting a little agitated, since I just lost a ton of money on a few games I wanted a bunch of shit.

Now they're going to ban people for buying something that showed up as free? And to cover up their tracks, they say it's part of some sort of stupid promotion that even they're not going to agree to anymore?

I'm sure I sound ignorant and the like, but enough is enough. Three strikes and I'm out. Guess I'll wait and see what happens to me, sorry to anyone that was banned here.

Is it? Eh, whatever, I guess that's not as bad since I barely play that online as it is. :/

I am just kidding, people said that about the other guy who got banned because he bought Halo 4 early.

My sarcasm meter must be broken.

But in all seriousness, this is very sad. I would understand those guys, who are done with Halo 4, because they have enough of this bullshit and the way, they were treated.
