Nintendo 3DS | Level-5

Release Date:
EU Sept 26
US Oct 24

I am extremely impressed with Fantasy Life. There are so many elements to the game, but it manages them well to create an immersive, enjoyable experience with a lot of content to play with. If you’re looking for a time-sink, then this is the game for you.
The Sixth Axis - 9/10
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2014/09/16/fantasy-life-review-3ds/

Fantasy Life’s multiplayer allows players to get together locally or online in groups of up to three and accomplish the same tasks and challenges as in single-player mode (although it is not possible to advance the main story in multiplayer).
Nintendo Life - 8/10
http://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/3ds/fantasy_life

You can choose between 12 jobs that give you access to an array of skills that carry over even if you decide you have had enough of one task. Switching between jobs and interacting with the different characters associated with each one is one of the most engaging aspects of Fantasy Life.
NWR - 8/10
https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/38526/fantasy-life-review

It gets bogged down by its fussy class constraints, but underneath Fantasy Life is an enjoyable RPG that will keep you going for hours.
Expert Reviews - 3/5
http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/nintendo-3ds-games/1401361/fantasy-life-review

Combat is uncomplicated and clearly aimed at youngsters, but in a game with such a potentially long running time, a little more complexity wouldn't have gone amiss.

This game is flying under a lot of people's radars ever since it was announced, including mine. Bayonetta 2 will outshine it next month.

Ah shame.

Can EU and US play online together?

Yeah... I honestly think they just unsold me this game. Definitely not the type of experience I want to play on my own. Will have to look into it more.

It's sad though I was looking forward to being able to play with a few of my friends not just doing things on the side.

This game sounds like it's right up my alley, but with Smash and Bayonetta coming next month plus Danganronpa 2 and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney in my backlog... This is just not happening. Such a shame :( maybe next year?

Definitive hmm here. My interest has been piqued since I heard about Fantasy Life. I'm hoping that, like Disney Magical World, the game is for me even if it's not for everyone else.

You wish.

Fantasy Life is coming for that Tomodachi Life kinda success.

The OT better not flop though, I need people to play online with.

Already sold on the game. I hope GAF will have a decent amount if players I can play online with when it launches in Europe

It feels like this game has existed FOREVER but we're just getting it now in the Western regions.

There's quite a few old timey f2p MMOs that play a lot like this, only insanely grindier.

The best parallel to it that was actually released over here is probably Rune Factory, only strip out the romance and put a bigger emphasis on combat.

Hmmm not too sure how I'll sort out the OT's friendlist share etc, should I make a Google document or any chance you wanna take care of it seeing as you want tons of peeps to play with in the game ;D

5/10 apparently jobs aren't entertaining enough...

I have been waiting for this game for years since they mentioned this during DQ9's development. In fact, I think that it started after Mother3 was finished since it shared some factors from the game. It's great that it's being received well but it certainly needs to be gaining more attention though.

There was a version that looked remarkably like Mother 3 in terms of art style. Maybe that's what you mean?

Yes, they were going for a sprite-based game years back when it started. BrownieBrown worked on Mother3 and it's likely they enjoyed their sprite work of the game so much it inspired the early Fantasy Life but with earth tones instead of the bright colors in Mother3. But the they decided to drop the sprite work and re-work the game from the ground up.

But they didn't let the older work go to waste though. In the last Layton on the DS, there was a extra game in it called London Life. It was a light social RPG (no combat though), with many elements that Fantasy Life has. If you want to know what could've been an earlier Fantasy Life, check out London Life.

One more review:

Gameblog (FR) gave it 4.5/5 (complaints are loading time, day one DLC and some repetition on sidequests)

It's true that loadings are a bit frequent, based on the videos.

Fantasy Life is also very reminiscent of True Fantasy Life Online, a cancelled XBL game.

Day one for me. It's not challenging, but it is full of contents, charming and beautiful. Can't wait, I'm happy PAL release is around the corner!

So you can't advance the story at all in multi... or is it like DQIX where it only advances for the main player but none of the invited players progress?

I think that the multi online is a different mode. to go ahead in the narrative, you have to follow some quests "alone"

Still undecided on this. I love the concept but I don't remember JP impressions being particularly good and metro are generally on the mark.

They didn't even bother translating the game for Japanexpo!
Barely anyone noticed it there, what did they expect putting a Japanese heavy text game with no direction and nothing to even get what you're doing!
I played for 5 min and don't even know what it's even about apart that it's from the now defunct Brownie Brown!

IGN Italy review

Rating: 7.5

"An Action-RPG surprisingly rich in contents, filled with things to do and with myriads of objects to be found or crafted. Is a Monster Hunter with a more childish art style, quite a "scholastic" game, easier to approach. Very good for younger players. Too bad for a not-so-good technical quality".

Can't wait to play this game, it looks fun to play.

I should point out that London Life is only in the US and Japanese release, it was cut in the European version because... reasons.

Because of translation iirc. Layton games usually get released in Europe before USA. And these games are translated in 5 languages.

Really looking forward to this. Been playing a lot of Animal Crossing with my girlfriend in the last month now there's two 3DS' in the house, and it seems like this will be a really good follow-up game to do together. She's super into the life sim genre and I figure this will scratch that itch for her while maybe broadening her horizons and offering more for me. If I can go out and do a lot of the fighting classes and she does the simmy classes then we can team up and benefit each other, that will be great. Appreciate the game might have some shortcomings but it really does look brilliant.
