An 11-year-old found meth inside a copy of Grand Theft Auto V

I played GTA 3 because it was in my older sister's room and I could just take it when my parents weren't home. They didn't go out and buy it for me.

Sad they found meth... but GTA 5 for an 11 year old - what lazy parenting....

You mean "cool" parenting. I had a friend who had cool parents that let their kid buy GTAIII at age 12. I loved spending the night at his house so we could stay up late and play GTA, which was a game my mother would NEVER let me own at that age.

To all you defending the 11 year old kid playing GTA, wtf?

I'm sure you all played it at that age but I doubt your mom specifically went out and bought that for you.

I was like 13 when GTA3 came out and my mom did get it for me IIRC :( (might confuse to Silent Hill 2 though)

My parents bought me GTA 3 for my 12th birthday. Is the argument that 5 is more graphic (both in violence and sexuality/nudity)?

These preorder bundles are getting ridiculous.

Ya'll got any more copies of GTAV?

LMAO!

So you didn't play DOOM or anything else before that age? ;)

DOOM: Arcade demon slaying.

GTA: killing innocent people and police officers. Constant perversion and sexual deviance. Nudity, prostitution, drugs, theft, etc. All glorified in a visually/audibly realistic manor.

Yeah, not comparable for most. I don't even think most adults are wise enough to even process these things properly, let alone impressionable kids/teens with confused moral compasses.

But alas, that's not a "progressive" thing to say is it? ;)

Shit parenting.

I always like it when people act all shocked when kids are playing games like GTA as if they weren't playing DOOM or Mortal Kombat when they were kids.

Not only that, but considering how many 10 years olds playing Call Of Duty have fucked my mom I can't see how anyone could be shocked by this

I'd be so fucking psyched if I bought a game and there was a bag of weed in there.

Meth, less so.

edit - I was always allowed to consume whatever I wished as a child, but usually with my parents at least. I remember watching Children of the Corn with them when I was like 8 or something and after told them, "I don't think you are supposed to let me watch movies like that"

Its my opinion that if you are an involved parent and talk to your child about things and answer any questions they may have, there is nothing wrong with showing them something that society deems them too young for (especially considering there is very little consensus about what is and is not okay)

I think anyone who says "bad parents" "lazy parents" are being pretty disgusting and probably projecting, as, if you don't know these people and are only going by the article, you would assume the kid is well parented and has a strong relationship with them, considering the first thing he did was bring it to them.

Well, Doom came out when I was about 16, so believe it when some of us say we didn't. I'd also suggest that GTA V does not compare to Doom in terms of realistically simulated violence.

We can all laugh off playing GTA as a child as funny because it's normal, but there are a lot of other "normal" behaviors in this world which people don't find funny. I don't think it's anymore sanctimonious to question a kid being allowed to play GTA than it is to question a lot of other things.

Hm how do you know an employee wasn't hiding it in there and forgot about it, and then it presumably got sold? :X

The true Trevor pre order bonus experience.

Edit:
Wtf is a mother buying GTAV for a 11 year old anyways?
I thought the meth was a pre-order bonus?

I played GTA 3 when i was 6-7 if a kid can mentally deal with it why not. Parents just have to tell very clearly that it is just a videogame and that it does not represent real life at all.

I feel that if the adult obviously informs the child that video games arent reality and theyre able to distinguish that then i dont see why they wouldnt be able to play them.

Everytime i play Gmod modes or go onto TF2 what do i hear? Little kids yelling on the mic killing each other in an online game.

Meth aside.

What kind of a mother buys a game like GTA V for an 11 year old ?

Meh, when I was much younger than 11, every kid I knew was into Robocop, had the toys and everything. Robocop is far more extreme than GTA5 could dream of.

Back then, I had a not-very-close friend who excitedly showed me all the lewd and gory shit in Duke Nukem, but it just made me think of him more as a bit of a low-life dumbass. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I got to play Duke Nukem 3D at 11. I did like Chrono Trigger more though.

And... yeah, Trevor comments are crazy obvious. It's almost a surprise we're seeing more Walter White.

I didnt, very strictass dad. Wouldnt even let me get Demikids smh

...everyone i knew in 6th grade sure was playing the shit out of san andreas, though.

There's a world of difference between the graphicness of those and modern games, plus i was 12 when MK launched in the arcades and 13 when doom released, might not seem much but theres like a lifetime of extra maturity in a year or 2 at that sort of age

Isn't he a bit young for GTA V?

Why? Unless you buy into the US false hysteria of violent media is the reason why there are so many crimes, and yet ignore why that same media in Canada or the UK doesn't cause the same crime statistics. I was 4-5 when I was doing fatalities in Mortal Kombat or playing Doom etc. My 9 year old cousin bought and played GTA V and is now on Overwatch. Violent games don't make violent criminals.

That's how they people to buy multiple copies of the same game. Each one comes with a taste of meth, then BAM! You're addicted to meth. I mean GTAV. Yeah...

Sure, but how many of us played GTA games at that age? I did. Or at least before 17.

GTAV is a lot more brutal and vulgar than the PS2-era games. They don't even say "fuck" in GTAIII or Vice City. When it comes to kids playing GTA, it's generally the case where parents have no idea what the content is like.

So it's easy to say "I was playing GTA when I was a kid" when they were basically no worse than some PG-13 movies.
