Checked a couple of them, §I'm so bored of these story driven games :( I hope it would be more sandboxy, at least from what I have understodt by the previews.

It is sandboxy.

These missions fit into threads dubbed, fittingly, “Storylines.” Storylines are Days Gone’s answer to the well-worn “quest” structures found in other open-world adventures. Tired of chasing a quest thread? Just hop to another Storyline and be on your way – the other stuff will be waiting for you when you’re good and ready.

This was really high on my radar a few years ago. Dropped off due to constant delays.

Actually surprised the marketing doesn't seem to be that strong for this game, I have seen way heavier promo for Anthem/Division 2/Resi 2 etc etc over the past couple months. I am hoping for a hit but I am staying cautious.

personally i think the game looks cool. at first i wasnt interested but i think its going to be a game that people appreciate later down the line.

From Vandal spain:
Its greatest virtue: it is very entertaining
All these things that we have mentioned and many more have Days Gone, a very complete open world game with many possibilities, which takes elements of many successful titles of recent years, so at first glance does not seem too original, but that really ends up offering a proposal that we had not seen. To summarize it in a very fast and superficial way, it is as if they had taken the playable base of The Last of Us and they would have turned it into a sandbox.

Although initially his proposal may not seem too original, the truth is that we had never played such a mix, or at least not with this quality.
The control of the character is very agile and pleasant, either in direct action or in stealth works perfectly, and move with the motorcycle through the wide scenarios is also very satisfactory. As much for the control as for the physics of the vehicle, driving the motorbike is a pleasure, something quite important since we will spend a lot of time traveling in it, and there will even be chases and will star in their own action scenes.

In any case, the question that I'm sure many of you are doing is whether it is up to the task or can rub shoulders (lol at the google translator) with Sony's great exclusives for PS4, and at least the sensation that has given us in this contact is that it is a rung below in terms of finishing and polishing, something that is quickly seen in the animations, the AI of the enemies or certain graphic defects like the loading of textures.

But we also have to say in his favor that it is a bit more risky in terms of its playable possibilities and all the systems it raises, it is a game more "systemic" and less "scripted" than other great Sony titles, which gives it a touch of freshness and differentiation. It is not as impeccable as a God of War or an Uncharted 4, in which everything is orchestrated so you never see a bad detail, but in return offers a more free and less predictable gameplay, which has left us wanting to continue deepening and Experimenting with your proposal

It has details to improve in the face of its release, as we have said certain graphics flaws, but luckily the performance is not one of them, and at this time in PS4 Pro moves to about 30fps quite stable, something not very usual to almost two months of the launch of a game.

An action adventure in the open world with zombies and elements of survival that will delight lovers of this type of games, and that will catch many people off guard and will surprise them with their proposal: solid, complete and very entertaining.

This looks like it will be the most interesting open world game that has come out for awhile.

Has the same fluidity of controls as horizon which is the benchmark when it comes to combat in open world games. This game will be huge.

This is exacly the last thing I want...another sandbox open world game...every single game nowadays expects you to invest in their boring world for 20-30 hours, although a majority of those hours are fillers.

Having said this, and knowing this game is quite a bit sandboxy, it looks cool, but the AI looks quite awfull, specially humans, but need to have a better look upon release.

this is dooooope.

looks like its a mix of TLoU + RDR and then some..... not expecting it to be a technical marvel, so purists will get pissed if it ducks under their expected graphics threshholds... im not that picky so wont bother me if it does. just hope my ps4 base can hold up for it.

so stoked for this

dont forget - demo/preview versions probably are set to easy difficulty

guessing the budget was blown on delays and extended dev time so marketing is going to be next to nothing compared to what it should have. its also a brand new IP, which makes me think marketing budget gets held back a bit.

Yeah I’m actually pleasantly surprised.

This whole time I’ve been like “this will be a a solid 7” but some of the previews paint a much brighter picture, in my eyes.

I had to stop reading them. Trying to go in as fresh as possible.

I rarely complain about delays, I almost expect them these days anyway. This looks like a delay done right.

Was expecting high 7s to mid-8s, but every time you see or read more - it gets a little better. (probably closer to the top of my range now)

I dig the artstyle and the muted colors. Feels a little depressing which could be a good thing considering the general setting of the game. Limited ressources also sounds interesting as looting camps and such could actually be a meaningful gameplay element instead of the usual open world busywork.

Looking forward to it, lets see how it all plays out.

Opposite for me. I have a busy life. a 10 hour story driven game is all I want.

As far as i know the game difficulty is set and you can't change it. I read in other previews humans A.I was poor.

Looking good so far. Just hope the story isnt too dragging, at least in terms of cutscenes.

Easy Allies said they played it on easy.

While it was recently reported that Days gone won't feature any difficulty modes, that might not be the case when Sony Bend's ambitious third-person shooter releases in 2019. Screen Rant recently spoke with studio director Chris Reese at the recent PlayStation Judge's Week event and learned that the developer is looking into adding difficulty options. Reese said that the game has to have a sense of challenge since it's core to their creative vision, but that they're "looking at" additional options for players.

Previous comments about a lack of difficulty settings came from director Jeff Ross, who told GI that the game is "not very good when it's easy." The studio's last major release, Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PlayStation Vita, featured several difficulty options. It remains to be seen whether or not they'll wind up implementing difficulties for Days Gone, but it's clear that latest game from Sony Bend is their most ambitious title yet.

You might be right

good to know thanks!

is this really a criticism in the previews?
yes in some they ridicule the fact that he is a bland white male character ´. Gamerinformer makes fun of this fun in their interview too. Like he wears always a cap as if he is bald and a spacemarine etc.

It's been a criticism since the game was first shown to be honest. From Polygons preview:

In the last few years, the fashion has moved away from overly familiar pissed-off mid-30s white-man protagonists. A young woman is the star of The Last of Us Part 2. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey featured a woman as an (optional) protagonist. Gears 5will star a woman. Even Battlefield 5 made the effort to subvert narrative shooter protagonist norms.

HE MEANS TO BITE BACK
Sony Bend stayed with straight, white Deacon St. John, but has softened him. I’m curious about how he’s changed in the two-plus years since he first appeared, and why I find him much more tolerable than when he first appeared. So I asked game director Jeff Ross.

“We got it from everyone,” Ross replied, referring to the initial criticism of the character. “Just the way some of the lines were read or the way they were written. We’ve refined some of the rougher edges, where he may not have come off as the most relatable character.”

I’m not gonna let some odd “he’s a white guy” comments bother me. Really has nothing to do with the game, just some writer trying to snag some spotlight

That's actually good writing and reporting. That quote you posted is just facts. They aren't saying Sony Bend did a bad thing. They aren't even saying making the lead character a woman is "best" thing. It's just been a new thing and Sony Bend choose to not go in that direction. They stuck to the tried and true formula. Nothing wrong with writing that, just as there's nothing wrong with Sony Bend making the character a straight, white man.

I agree actually. I was mostly referencing it as it talks about the criticism, but you are right in that they don't really contribute to that with this article. Still, the fact that it even needs to be mentioned (that he is a straight white guy) sums up a lot of what is wrong with gaming today (among other things).

This game is going to sell a ton. The almost fluid-like animations of a horde as they pour into and over an area, along with many different ways to mess around with and dispatch, looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

I feel kind of guilty as when I see horde scenes I wonder “how great would this look and run on next gen hardware.”
