Homie ...
Magic in DD is so far above other RPGs of any kind it's not even funny. Other games only look good when you summoning gods at level 600 or some shit. DDs fireballs are fun when you're a starting mage... then the electricity starts and you notice that lightning bolts feel like proper fucking lightning ... then you get some ice spells and think damn that's intense... and then Maelstrom and Bromide and all the heavy hitters come out and your summoning rocks from heaven and pointing fucking tornados at people.. it's wild and amazing and exactly how magic should feel in a game. Powerful. Dangerous. high risk reward but god-damn .. so pretty.
The combat is easier to compare to something like DmC or something than any other action rpg. The skill involved in chaining different attacks and tuning your character to be whatever kind of dangerous you want them to be is more intimate and intertwined than in any other game you'll play. There will be a point where you are running scared through the dark from goblins and it will feel amazing. And then 70 hours later you are hunting chimeras in the dark and they should be scared. It's one of the best power trips in gaming.
The atmosphere, scale, build up of power and consequence in the world for this game is pretty stunning. Creature design is perfectly Dungeons and Dragons. Classes are clearly defined but have room to breathe if you want to experiment. Weapons and armor all look different and show up on your person when you equip them. The agency you have in the world is amazing - whole plot lines can be skipped or delved into. Characters can and will die and disappear forever if you aren't careful. Evil af bad guys can be silly and stupid while also being actually creepy. Dragons can be sympathetic and dangerous at the same time. There is a lived in feel to this world.
At some point in the future you will have a story of being in the middle of nowhere, not sure about which direction you should be traveling, in the dark with nary a brew sauce or grass on hand to give you life. You'll think that there's a light maybe past these trees that could maybe be that one cave you saw before the sun went down and at least that would put you in the right direction towards town. It'll be not completely quiet and you pawns will be droning on about wolves or some shit and you may just get comfortable before you hear a whooshing sound, see red eyes and then HO FUCK you're fighting a dragon! And you will fight the fuck out this thing for a whole day in game. The sun will come up and set again cause this thing is so fucking strong and it has how many life bars(??!!) and two of your pawns are dead thank god your healer is still here and finally... after all that... when you climb his head and stab him one last time and come out the other side a dragon slayer when you were just trying to escort some girl to some fort???
This shit is magical and you will get lost in it and it will be on of the greatest experiences a game will ever give you.
And then you go to Bitterblack Isle 0.0
