Essential New Vegas mods for a first play-through?

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55061/? & http://nvse.silverlock.org/ got these two? those should be first. Super easy. Just follow the instructions, you'll boot the game through Fallout 4gb from now on.

After that, download The Nexus Mod manager. Fallout Mod manager hasn't been updated in years, don't use that one.

After the Nexus Mod manager is installed, http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/m...ds.com/newvegas/ajax/modfiles/?id=43135&pUp=1 click: "download with manager" for all three parts of the LARGE pack

Activate part 1 of the mod in NMM, it'll install, do the same with parts 2 & 3 but select NO when those two ask if you want to upgrade to new version. Go to tools at the top of NMM and turn archive invalidation off and back on. boot the game and test it out..

use https://loot.github.io/ to sort your load order as you start to add more mods.

Superb thankyou.

hi,

I have followed all of these steps and im pretty confident everything is correct.

However im now getting an error when trying to open the 4gb.exe

"the parameter is incoreect"

Im on windows 8.1 which Inoticed the creator has recently posted there are problems with?

Gotta ask, does anybody know any mods that make Dead Money not run like trash? NV proper and Old World Blues run perfectly fine with Stutter Remover and Performance of the Gods, but as soon as more than one enemy shows up in DM it turns into a slide show.

Yeah I was unaware of this as I'm using windows 7. He says to try re-installing the game to somewhere outside x86. It seems to work just fine for most windows 8.1 users. So something is probably effecting your permissions.

It's also possible you missed a step or did something wrong with the installation of fallout 4gb. Remove it, boot with just NVSE (at the top of NMM where is says launch new vegas, scroll over it and click boot with NVSE) After its confirmed to be working place fallout 4gb files back into the New Vegas directory and try booting with it again. If its doing the same shit try installing the game elsewhere.

Glad to hear it! It's possible you had an esp/esm in NMM checked that wasn't supposed to be. Some of these mods come with a bunch of compatibility patches or extra stuff thats meant to only work if you have this or that mod and these esp/esm's are auto checked upon install. Use LOOT and it'll point these errors out.

You should check out FNVEdit: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34703/? as you start to add more mods. Its especially helpful for figuring out exactly which mod is crashing your game so you don't have to uninstall everything. As well as letting you create merge patches for better compatibility. you'll want to check out this video if you ever do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVKe51dRm2M

But with only a handful of mods it really isn't a must have.

Anyway good luck!

What kind of rig do you need for all the texture overhaul mods? I've got a 2 gb GTX 670 and 3570k @ 4.2 with 8gb ram. Should I even bother?

No, sounds like you'll do just fine. My system is close to your's and I'm running 50ish mods and ENB and getting a solid frame rate. If you want higher frames just opt for some of the smaller texture packs and better optimized mods out there.

Thanks.

BTW, is A World of Pain recommended? This is my first try. I will not be playing the game again, so I want the best version and a good challenge. Thought FO3 was crap and mods couldn't save it. I have more faith in Obsidian's version, but I'm trying not to spend too much time installing mods in case I can't get into it.

Not if you want to experience the game as created by Obsidian. AWOP adds a ton of locations, characters and items.

Hmmm. Don't care that much, but I get the feeling the game will be big enough as it is, so I'll pass.

What about Project Nevada? I definitely want a balance mod.

Yes, it's a big game already.

As for Project Nevada, it changes gameplay (especially combat) completely. It does have several items, like the cyberware implants (which change the game a lot as well), but it's mostly about changing combat, difficulty, resources, stats, etc.

Personally, I think it's a mixed bag, which is ok since you can activate the features you want to use. However, IMO it's very hard to know what should or should not be activated without trying it out for a first time, so I don't recommend it for a first playthrough.

I just bought a Fallout: New Vegas code for $3 on Amazon. Never played a Fallout game in my life. Gonna play with no mods, pretty pumped :)

I would recommend to at least consider:

YUP patch
4gb exe
New Vegas Anti Crash
New Vegas Stutter Remover
Darnified UI/MTUI

These mods will at least make the game as stable as it can be.

If you want to add challenge and balance, maybe make hardcore mode more exciting, use Josh Sawyer's Mod + Vicious Wastes + Cirosans Classic Overhaul

you can use them all together (CCO needs a compatibility patch for JSawyer) or just pick one you like.

If you want big gameplay changes, Project Nevada is the way to go. And if you want, all four get along nicely. Can't say i recommend them all for your first play through lol. Do as you like!

Yukichigai Unofficial Patch: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664/? and fallout 4gb at least just to keep the game running smooth and remove as many bugs as possible.

I used this guide OP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-3c1a9cLL8

Basically it's a modder who goes through a shit ton of the most popular mods in different types of the game i.e performance/graphics, gameplay, UI, etc. He also did one for FO3 and Skyrim. Thought it was a great guide, as he explains how to install each mod, and then goes through every single one of em with comparisons.

I came in here to post this.

OP, use these videos and install what you feel is necessary, Gophers videos are easy to follow, easy to listen to and will get you up and running in a few hours with the mods you need.

IMO if you don't want to alter the vanilla experience too much I'd suggest an unofficial bug fix mod or two, stutter remover, Large Address Aware so the game can use 4GB of RAM and the borderless windowed mode is handy as well, I noticed less crashes with it.

Game play wise, I'd say a couple of texture mods, lighting mods, maybe the core module for Project Nevada and mods for making the characters and NPCs look a little better. Get a UI mod as well, 100%. I can't remember the name of the popular UI mod I use but it and all the other stuff I've just mentioned are all talked about by Gopher in his video series on modding New Vegas above.

Although just reading through some of the comments on the vids now, there is a decent chance some of the mods he showcased/used may or may not be out of date/no longer functioning properly. If that is the case, simply skip them.

What are the best quest/lore mods for new Vegas? I heard the Boulder done/Brazil were good long campaign style expansions and Bounties, world of pain, lucky 38 added smaller quests, lore stuff.

Can you guys recommend more like that?
