Farpoint/PSVR Aim |OT| Survivors Keep Shooting

I've played maybe 2 hours and I'm loving it! It looks great (standard PS4), aiming is better than expected (compared to Until Dawn my accuracy seems way better) and the sound design is fantastic. Being able to locate enemies by just hearing them is a game changer. I'm usually not the fps type player so I actually appreciate the slow start which Sammy from PushSquare mentioned in his review. I'm so glad that I can use smooth turning, haven't even tried any of the other options.

Tomorrow I'll try co-op with a friend, really looking forward to that.

One thing I do not like is that the game only saves once a level has been completed. While I kind of guessed when a level was done (I think it's when longer cutscenes are played), you're never actually told that you finished a level. So when I had to quit the first time I was hoping that I had reached a point in the game where my progress was saved. But other than that I'm really having a blast so far!

Just beat the game, the last part is fucking dope.
Not that the first is boring, of course.
Solid experience all around, it's around the 8.5 mark easily for me.

And that satisfaction when you use the sniper rifle and perform a headshot... pure (VR) porn there.

So I played a bit.. killed a bunch of spiders.. I was already sweating (warm season just starting here, do that didn't help) so I had to put it down. Game is kind of too tense for me on a weekday. Not a game to play if you want to relax.

I'll probably play through it this week-end though. Tracks well, though I think I need to adjust the direction my cam is pointing a bit.

Site says $18... good enough I guess. Bundle should have had a damn code ffs

Thanks for posting! That's not good enough, IMO, since it's less than you pay in the bundle vs. the price of the stand-alone Aim controller. I agree- what were they thinking not making a version of the bundle with a code?

All the impressions make me wanna get it, but amazon is out and I let my gamers club unlocked expire 😭

My number one concern was alleviated immediately: you can choose handedness using the Aim controller. i hope other Aim compatible games follow suit.

I am definitely not an ace shooter. It took me quite a few tries to get through the first real boss fight in this game. Basically I got overwhelmed. Once there were a lot of enemies on screen, it didn't take me long to go down until I got the hang of it. Usually it was the shot gun running out of ammo that did me in, since it would happen at the worst time.

Gotten pretty far into it. It's fucking awesome and I truly can't wait for other games to use the Aim. The game starts off really easy but then without spoiling it, honestly begins to really get difficult.

I'm liking these actual user impressions. Seems like a fun ride and worth it to pick up down the line at least. Good stuff.

What a shame. The controller could have been used in more FPS and shooter games like with PS Move.

I guess technically nothing is stopping regular games from supporting it, but the poster who replied to you was speaking specifically about the game being VR exclusive, not the controller. As of right Now, the controller is only used in VR games, but there aren't any technical limitations that keep it from being used on something like say Killzone Shadowfall or something. Only things required would be a PS4 and PS4 Camera

Is there a definitive guide for properly setting up PSVR? I've had it since launch but have experienced drifting over time. I want the best possible experience for this game.

Just played coop at buddies place. I play lefty but they dont alternate what the sticks do. I need to move with my right thumb and turn with my left thumb. Opposite to normal controller play. Did i miss an option to alternate that?

Edit: and now i understand why sharpshooter is NOT supported... there would only be 1 stick and you need 2.

Edit: coop has friendly fire which is a nice touch. It is quite challenging. Im shocked they didnt add in a 3v3 multiplayer mode! It would be so much fun!

Also do a full power-off of your console from time to time. Just keeping it in rest mode and waking it up will eventually lead to drift, but a complete shut-down clears that up in a lot of cases.

play closer to the camera.
I'm 5-6 feet away, sitting. I'll probably stand for this one and set the camera at around eye level.

I usually turn it off, but I may have been using rest mode more around the time PSVR released.

Okay, stupid question... Why can't I turn the camera manually? I spent a better part of the first mission walking sideways. lol.

Aside from that, loving what I've played so far!

This game is fuckin awesome but I just kept thinking how much better it would be if I were playing as a storm trooper or rebel soldier.

Really hope Battlefront 2 has support for this controller for it's campaign.

Go into the options and turn the camera to "smooth" then you can control it with your right sick.

press the options button and a menu will come up. Go into,i believe, settings and there are options for how to turn.

Wow that opening made me really want a space flight sim for PSVR

I get a little sad every time I experience this. I completely agree with you, but so far there's no decent single-player space flight game. EVE is pretty decent, but only if you're into competitive multi-player.

I cant believe they dont have an option to alternate the sticks when you alternate which way you hold the gun.

If any devs are here, please add that!!

So this game and this dumb controller is up there with the most fun I've had in VR so far across all three platforms. I'm maybe 2 hours in or so and loving every second of it, and only stopped to recharge the gun.

So far I give the game a 8/10. 2 points deducted because of freaky screeching space spiders flying at my face.

This thread made me want to go buy the game. Checked the local stores and no luck... and Amazon is sold out with resellers selling it for $150. :p

Oh well I guess I will keep playing Prey.

I just finished my first play session (about 2 hours in). Like the reviews mention, this is a meh game that is made really good by VR. If this was a non-VR game, it would be really bad.

However, this might be my favorite VR experience ever. From that standpoint, it really excels. The gun feels great, and there are little touches like your shadow moving with u that adds to the immersion.

If you want a great VR experience, this is it. If you are looking for a good FPS, not so much. I'm happy with my purchase; this is the kind of VR content I've been craving.

Side note: I'm prone to motion sickness, but no issues here. I couldn't play Robinson at all, and had to take lots of breaks with RE7. But I've had zero issues with this game. By default there is only one stick movement, and pointing the gun turns you. Also, you are typically just walking forward. Something about the way they designed it just works, so no queezy issues.

Its crazy how VR affects people so differently. But it sounds like you are playing with no body turning enabled. Ok for campaign but coop would be impossible that way. They are arena battles as you progress through the levels.

For me, moving backwards always makes me queezy.

Finished it. While yes, if the campaign was non-VR, it wouldn't be anything special. However the VR is nailed so well here that it lifts it up. Hence why in terms of reviews, I feel like it should be less compared to non-VR FPS but other VR FPS which at the moment, none compare.

Going to try the co-op tomorrow.

Spoilers for Ending:

Very sequel-baiting there at the end. I just hope they're able to make a follow up.
It isn't clear what happened to the pilot or the daughter at the end there.

That's interesting. Ive come across an arena battle in the campaign, and just strafed and movement backwards a lot. Moving backwards doesn't cause me any issues, but joystick turning can be nausea city for me.

Y'all with expired GCU should renew that shit anyway and get on it, it's better than Amazon for a number of reasons:

20% off all new software always, not just first 2 weeks (comes in real handy to get an additional 20% off when a game drops to $40 or $30).

Trade-in bonuses stack with on going promotions
(Also, trading is way easier in-store than shipping to Amazon IMO)

Anywho, really enjoying Farpoint so far. Graphics aren't on the same level as Batman or RE7, but they're good enough and the Aim controller is a joy to use. Hoping more games will make use of it (read: plz add support Capcom)

Just in case anybody else got sick of reaching over their back to switch weapons, pressing down on the d-pad will switch them too. Not sure if that was common knowledge but I just found it out and the reaching over the back was getting annoying. I also found out that if you point your weapon at yourself and pull the trigger you kill yourself. Just FYI.

Played about 1.5hrs , man its so damn good. The aim controller really makes it, for those people asking, yes its absolutely worth getting.

I havent played any VR for a few months and was worried I may get sick, nothing nada, completely fine after jumping in. I am using the small turn option right now and was moving all over the place in one arena like area.

Having a two handed controller in your hands really make it feel awesome moving around the weapon in game, the tracking was really good for me as well. I stood up and set my camera on a tripod probably 6 or 7 ft away.

I cannot wait to play some more, I know I will be sad when its over :O

Really enjoying this game and the controller. Well done.

I'll agree with many others that the game itself wouldn't be much if it wasn't VR. but it IS VR, and it's a very cool experience.

Still trying to figure out my VR preferences. Smooth just really starts to get me sick. But maybe I need to slow it down. No queasiness with the click turns. Backing up still a problem for me. Getting old sucks lol.

Pleasantly surprised by the controller as well. Very cool to aim down the sights by holding an actual pretend gun to my face.

Spent a long time today reconfiguring my gaming loft to allow a more permanent VR setup. I'm back on the VR train.

And Best Buy will actually deliver games on release day. Amazon shipping has sucked for the past 6 months.

I am so impressed by the 3D audio. It is next level ear gasism, it really is positional and you can tell the direction and High and Low position of the enemy, wind, sound ect.. they did a masterful job with the audio.
