Final Fantasy XV's soundtrack is probably the best mainline soundtrack ever

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
Say what you will about the game but the soundtrack is out of this world. Even the pieces that are situational like when you are approaching an enemy or the ominous tune that plays when you are in range of a powerful hunt just fits the task at hand PERFECTLY....and lets not forget the "yall mothafuckas gonna get it NOW" pre-summon track and the following "smited into oblivion" track that plays afterwards. Man SE came through with the witchcraft cause this fuckin' soundtrack is beyond dope

Lowkey a post-your-favorite-tracks-from-the-game thread

One of the things I like about listening to FF soundtracks (outside of the game) is I can connect each song back to where I heard it while playing the game. I feel FF15 had one of the better soundtracks, but since the games story telling mostly fell flat my mind can't really connect most of the tracks back to the game.

I disagree. There's a lot better, especially in the FF franchise. XV has a lot of great tracks, but it has an equal amount of generic ones. It lacks overall consistency.

7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14 stomp all over this.

Off by 1. XIV has absolutely amazing music. Crazy and catchy boss themes, the amazing Ishgard motif, and so on. The old Uematsu stuff is pretty great, but I feel most of Soken's music has been much better.

FORWARD AND BACK

I had high hopes for the soundtrack, and it's definitely solid, but it isn't one of my favorites in the series. FFXIII's is better imo.

Not even close OP. Shimomura does decent work here, but its not even her A game let alone top 5 FF's, even top 10 if we count spinoffs.

You can tell she wasn't particularly inspired

Could not disagree more. There are a few good songs, but FF4/6/7/8/9 are all miles better and more distinct/unique, IMO.

Oh dear lord no. Don't get me wrong I really really loved it. It's universally a fantastic soundtrack but best ff soundtrack ever? I respect your opinion but I disagree lol

Good Art™
Not only it's not super memorable but the way the music is used in the game is a shame. it looks like some sort of random playlist when you're walking around..

I really wanted it to be but in the end I don't think it reaches the overall quality of FF OSTs like FFVI, VIII, XII, XIII and XIV ARR for me. There are many standout tracks and lots of good ones but there are also a few too many generic ones and not quite enough variation. The OST was also handled poorly in the actual game outside of combat themes, imho.

Plus it's missing vocal Somnus and the Prelude theme used in one of the environmental trailers. A crime.

It has its moments but it's not terribly consistent. Lots of generic cinematic bombast without much personality. I got more out of listening to XIII tracks while in the car.

XV has some good to great tracks but I can't agree with the OP. XI and XIV are tops for me with X up there as well. Hell, XIII has some great music as well. So, right away XV is behind those four for me.

There are some great quality tracks though so I would never call XV's OST bad, just not in that upper tier.

Absolutely agreed. Shimomura da gawd and savior.

Even if you completely discount her, the curation of the tracks you can select on the radio was astonishing. It made all the difference to drive around blasting the Nier OST.

Up For The Challenge is the single best battle track in the entire series.

It perfectly captures XV's tempo of combat while hitting absolute peaks of being exhilarating and theatrical.

One of my biggest complaints about the game is that there aren't enough tough enemies and/or lengthy battles that use this piece.

It's great, yeah. The reason why the music doesn't feel as prominent as other games is because you're out in that big open world so much and the sound editors unfortunately fucked up the musical implementation.

There's a lot of music in FFXV, and a lot of it is phenomenal, but there's a lot of quiet walking around that gives the illusion that there's not much music which is where I imagine some of these comments stem from. But listening to it on its own it's actually amazing.

It absolutely has some of my favorite standalone tracks, but I wouldn't call it the best overall.

Also, game is shit

An excellent, on-topic comment sure to help provoke further analysis about the soundtrack.

The best soundtrack of all action FFs maybe.

But not at the same level of turn-based FFs... FFVIII, FFVII, FFIV, FFV, and my favorite FFVI has better soundtrack.

How I loved Nobuo Uematso work in FFVI.

Ehh it's no FFX but it's really really good. FFX wins by a country mile though since the OST compliments the narrative perfectly. There are some tracks that are just so intwined with the pivitol story beats and moments in X that they both enhance eachother in a way that FFXV simply can't die to the patchwork plot.
