PS+ is one of the worst things that happened to console gaming.
It's because it's not widespread, there's millions of people that don't have the problem.
I am not saying it's not a problem for some but I don't think it's exactly Sony's fault.
The only thing worse than the insultingly pathetic speeds of Sony's servers are the people who show up in these threads who blame the person with the problem because everything happens to be fine for them.

I can think of a few other things.
And mostly they post one liners "never had an issue LOL" without stating where they are at and giving any insight about their setup.
But that was the problem, and it even infected Microsoft.
Sony realized that free online was killing them, and we jealous of the money Microsoft was raking in. They knew they needed to start charging, but couldn't get away with just adding that cost out of nowhere. she they introduced in on the PS3 as a stupid game library service.
I knew full well that they would begin forcing it for online play on the PS4. But they couldn't stop giving away games because they trained their customers so well. So now, instead of getting $50 a month, they get that minus whatever it costs to distribute the free games.
Microsoft ended up feeling forced to match, so XBL lost revenue, too. And XBL has not been as stable this gen as it was last gen. I don't think it is a coincidence that it correlates with now giving away free games.
I didn't mind paying for XBL as a service, but it grinds my gears that I have to hope the games I get are worth the outages we have seen. And it's all because Sony was clueless about online service on the PS3, and have now muddied the service for everyone. I'm just glad XBL hasn't sunk to PSN levels of crappiness.
Worse, the practice has lead to a ton of people not buying some games because you can now predict that you will get them for "free" later. So, yeah, Microsoft and Sony pay these publishers and eve for their games, but not until after their new online strategy already hurt their sales at launch.

Well, we know why that is. Just ignore it. Or better, check their "MVP" status.
This is a problem with Sony's servers and/or hardware. Full stop. No question. Period.
Downloaded everything at perfectly fine speeds yesterday. Rarely do I ever think these topics are actually the fault of PSN servers.
a few posts above yours said:I've lived in SF, NYC and LA over the past 7 years, and had many, many different ISPs, modems and routers.
In every place I've lived, my PC, iPhone and 360 all maxxed out my download pipe... blazing fast. On my PS3, and now my PS4, it has been absolute shit. Horrible speeds. Often times 1/10th of the speed I'm getting from every other device. Even if I directly wire my PS3/4 to the router or modem.

(S)he means Playstation MVP statusWhat is "MVP status"?
I thought there are JuniorM., Member, Mod tiers.

Not much issues with download speed, I just want PSN to stop crashing and freezing me PS3 all the time so I can actually use it. The crashing prevents me from purchasing anything or even browsing to see if there is something I want to buy. Or it just completely freezes my PS3 that I have to force a shut down. It's lost money because of the trouble I have to deal with and not worth opening PSN.
Sure.Mind running a speed test?
My plan is 50$ with no bandwidth limits. It's the one most within my means. The other options are here. $1 USD is approximately 1500L.L. so divide by 1.5 if you want to run the conversions.May I ask where you live and how much this ISP charges?
I guess that was poorly worded from me but I think people should just appreciate what they have. Also it's like this for everyone in the country. I just felt that complaining about 20GB over 6 hours felt a bit petty. This makes no sense. People should lower their standards because ... your standards are low?
And somehow you pay for 2MB/s but get 200KB/s and you chose to not complain?
what
So some GAF members are kinda working for Sony? Didn't know that.
I think they should disclose that information.

Never - I repeat - never use the console store on PS3. Just order and queue up your games from the website.
And I'm PAYING for this shit! Ok, maybe not this specifically, but I DO pay for online services. This is not acceptable.
I've experienced this with every Sony game system I own. What has improved my speed on each and every one of them was setting the primary and secondary DNSs to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, respectively.
The MVP group is entirely volunteer based. There really is no need to disclose that information since we don't do anything special, and since anyone can apply to become one.

As you can see there are better speeds available, but they're basically all made in a way you exceed your bandwidth limit and pay up way more than 50$. Used to be that internet bills would run up 250/300$ in my old family home with 2 older siblings sharing it. Imagine sharing 40 or even 100GB among 5 people.
I can't imagine going back to 40GB a month. And back in 2007, it was 3GB a month (then 4 a few years later), with 10$ extra per 1GB, with no other plans available.

Sony runs their CDN servers through Akamai.
Anecdotal, but mine sucks too. I'm only on a 15Mbps connection (oddly, I get 25Mbps up), but downloading PS4 games is crap. Maybe 1-1.5Mpbs. The Bloodborne patch took forever.
