1. Super Mario Odyssey
I foolishly thought that Super Mario Odyssey was a known quantity, leading up to E3. I was excited to see more, but I did not expect to be as floored as I was by what I saw in that trailer. This game looks incredible.
2. Metroid Prime 4
Feels a little weird to put this up so high considering what we got. But shit, it's a Metroid game. My dream is that the new internal dev team is a healthy mix of Nintendo vets and new blood that can bring a fresh outlook to Metroid. ARMS and Splatoon are encouraging in this regard.
3. Beyond Good and Evil 2
I never finished the original game and this sequel is probably half a decade from release, but god damn this trailer was pure magic. This trailer is what E3 is all about for me.
4. Anthem
Bioware working on something that's not only entirely different for them, but has stupidly good visuals and rather ambitious goals. How realised those goals will eventually become is something I'm not too confident about, but even still this game looks bonkers.
5. Metroid: Return of Samus
A complete surprise but a welcome one, and it's coming out soon! It remains to be seen if it manages to capture the soul of 2D Metroid, or merely imitates it, but I'll take what I can get.
6. God of War
I played through the original trilogy for the first time only in the last few years. I enjoyed them but by 3 I had well and truly gotten sick of the endless violence and murder and by extension Kratos himself. A shake up is something I can get behind, and everything of this instalment looks fantastic.
7. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Uncharted 4 was one of the best games to come out of 2016, and this weird Expansion/DLC thing looks to carry on that high standard of quality. More stunning visuals, endearing characters and stupid action: yes please.
8. Sea of Thieves
I guess there's still potential for a No Man's Sky-style backfire with Sea of Thieves, but it's still hard not to get excited by the possibilities. I have a tonne of questions and concerns, but this game deserves your hype for its ambition, if nothing else.
9. A Way Out
A developer coming out and saying their game has been designed for couch co-op, and that you shouldn't play online unless you have to? Unheard of. On top of that, the trailer showed off a story line with a scope that I did not expect. Looking forward to playing this with my GF.
10. Metro: Exodus
The first two Metro games reminded me heavily of Half-Life 2 (especially Last Light) and the trailer for Exodus gave me similar vibes. Glad to see this IP is still alive.
