For me, I have a number of games that I am generally looking forward to playing. I'm trying to take each game's presence at the show into consideration, so gameplay generally trumps a trailer, which in turn trumps a bare announcement (for that reason, I'm not including eg Metroid Prime 4 or Beyond Good and Evil 2, despite the fact that I am really looking forward to them - they'll get their chance in the coming year(s)). Also, the Yabuki exhibitional match would have warranted ARMS an inclusion, but since it's already out, I'd rather give some future games a bit of recognition.
1. Super Mario Odyssey ;
I'm always more or less mildly on board with new 3D Mario titles, even if their first showings are a little weak (looking at you, 3D World). I'd be lying if I said I didn't go into this E3 without some concerns about where this franchise would be taken in Odyssey, but the more I see or read about it, the more my worries melt away. Out of all the games at the show, it is by far the one I'd most like to be able to play myself. It is at the top of my list of games to check out at Gamescom and at the top of my list of games to look forward to this Fall.
2. Splatoon 2 ;
The first Splatoon is one of my favourite games of the past few years, so I was honestly sold on its sequel from the beginning. I'm itching to jump into the new campaign, Salmon Run looks really intense, and the invitational showed that the multiplayer is still as fun and frantic as ever. Next month can't come soon enough.
3. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus ;
The revival of the classic Id - FPS franchises is definitely one of the best recent developments in this industry. I've finally come around to playing DOOM, and am currently on my first playthrough of The New Order (and really liking it so far). The New Colossus was the clear standout at Bethesda's otherwise tame presentation and I can't wait to play it later this year.
4. METRO Exodus ;
It feels as though I've been sleeping on the Metro series until now. I've been aware of 2033 and Last Light, but never really thought of playing them (in part because I was gaming on a laptop while I was at university). The presentation at the Microsoft briefing really caught my eye, so much so that I've finally decided to go back and try the other two in order to prepare myself for Exodus' release.
5. Metroid: Samus Returns ;
To think that after years of pin-teases and the disappointing Federation Force, we'd get not one, but two new Metroid announcements at this year's E3! I'm more excited for Prime 4, but Samus Returns is more immediate. I've never played the original GB game and what I've seen on the Treehouse stream has more than sold me on keeping my 3DS close at hand.
6. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle ;
Forget the big out-of-left field announcements - the biggest surprise out of this year's E3 is without a doubt that this Ubisoft-Nintendo collaboration looks as good as it does. I'm more or less indifferent towards the Rabbids characters, but I love tactical games and, beyond that, I like to imagine the potential future projects this could pave the way for.
7. Ori and the Will of the Wisps ;
Ori and the Blind Forest combines intense Metroidvania-esque gameplay with a hauntingly beautiful visual style. Its sequel is looking to be a continuation of that, which I'm more than on board with.
8. Assassin's Creed Origins ;
I have an intense love-hate relationship with the AC series. I love the settings, exploration and traversal with a passion, but some of the design choices have always been a nagging annoyance for me. I liked Black Flag and Rogue, but Unity wore me out so much that I still haven't gotten around to playing Syndicate despite having owned it for over a year now. Still, I'm always hopeful that the next one is going to be really good again.
9. A Way Out ;
I really like the premise for this game, but the lack of single-player makes my enjoyment with it entirely dependent on whether I can convince one of my siblings to play it with me.
10. Middle-earth: Shaodw of War ;
Despite its shortcomings, I quite liked Shadow of Mordor, and it's been long enough for me to be ready to jump back into the series.
