4 new level 80 maps. 2 guild hall maps.

there has been small current events updates going in which seem to be hinting at things to come. (New events in older zones)

Living world season 3 episode 1 has released. It brought a new map (bloodstone fen) and new story instances. You need HoT to play it but you can unlock it just by loging in now even if you don't have HoT.

Yes. They also added gliding which is really fun and a bunch of adventures (mini games but happen in the new maps).

Pretty active. I think the pvp seasons has helped keep it active.

I like the scrapper (engi specialisation) because I like playing melee classes. I like that it hasn't change the engi drastically and he is still jack of all trades with all his tool kits.

I don't play ranger so I have no idea, but I think you don't lose your pet ever because I remember people complaining about it when Druid was announced because people want a pet-less ranger.

Thanks for the insight! Think I'll probably jump in again, with my friend. Looking forward to trying PVP too. :)

Make sure you log in before September 20 to unlock the current living world episode on your account. Even if you don't have HoT yet it'll be unlocked if you eventually buy the game.

Yep, just started downloading the client a little bit ago when I noticed that trailer link for S3E2. The only reason I had to uninstall was because of Windows 10...

That trailer actually doesn't make much clear, is that supposed to be a new volcanic zone?

It doesn't look like a Ring of Fire island but I suppose much has changed from the old days.

edit: After some reading I guess it's Ember Bay. Wild stuff.

So what does that mean? Is Ember Bay the first part of a zone? If the bay area is opened I imagine they will open for more of the islands later?
I think a volcanic theme is a good idea for the zone but I wonder if it will look aesthetically different from Mount Maelstrom?

hey guys , it has been a long time since i said anything in here ( hopefully you still remember me :p ) .
ive been playing ff14 most of last year and let GW2 fall to the wayside .

Now i am feeling jumping back into the game once in a while ( i still haven't finished the HOT expansion so i am probably miles behind everyone else :p)

so i logged in right now and first of i was amazed you guys have not kicked me from the guild yet even after all this time .

secondly i am aware of the level 80 boost item i do have one question about it .

is it usable on every character i have or make or is it usable only once per account ?

other then that i know we are going to the ring of fire , is there any sort of gameplay changes or changes in general i should be aware of ?

anyway hope to see you all back soonish :p

It's in a shared inventory slot that will appear in all of your characters inventories.

You can activate it on a character and you'll be teleported in the Silverwastes in some kind of 'Trial mode'.
When you're in this Trial Mode you can do whatever you want in the Silverwastes with your character leveled to 80 and fully geared (you even have an NPC that let's you swap gear stats)
Once you're finished doing what you want (which should be trying out the class at high level) you can either :
- Opt-out of it, have your character brought back to his actual level, and keep the boost to try to another character (you keep whatever loot you got in the Silvberwastes)
- Confirm the use of the boost for this character, it will stay level 80 and fully geared, and I think you get to keep the shared inventory slot from the boost (but I might be wrong on that)

As far as gameplay changes go, the only things I can think of since HoT are some balance changes to pretty much every classes, and some changes to how some skills work. (Ranger sword and Guardian getting some new symbols added to some existing skills come to mind)

Make sure you log in before Sep 20 to get the first episode of the Living Story for free.

If you haven't done the Heart of Maguuma masteries you should since it's needed for the new maps, but otherwise there are no major changes to the gameplay.

Some more info on masteries, definitely concentrate on getting at least updraft mastery, jumping mushrooms bare minimum, in the gliding tier. You'll be unable to navigate all of the new zones without them. You can collect the rest of the masteries in time and you'll have to get tier 2-3 in some of them to finish the hots story anyway.

Get Pact Commander mastery asap as auto loot is game changing.

Auric Basin, Dragon's Stand, and Bloodstone Fen will probably be your best zones to collect exp by meta.

I just reeeeeally hope there'll be some new types of enemies, instead of just re-skins. I know it might be too much to hope for in a living story episode, but I'd much rather take new types of enemies than new areas.

If I recall there were some pretty snazzy GW1 monsters in that area that I'd love to see.

Hedge TBH, the Kaka is some of the best enemies in the game and they get no love. I always love going to Southsun to fight the Kaka! They exist nowhere else and that is a shame. It was a good move to add them.

I think another enemy type that needs more love is the steam creatures!

That's true, I forgot the Karka had migrated there. I was just fearing an island of all imps, embers and destroyers.

The Karka are a great enemy type and I'm happy they're being given room to grow.

Did they ever get around to getting that auto-loot into WvW? I didn't mind not having it, unlike most, but it also meant that I had no real want to get it in PvE when I played PvP and WvW more often.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
just remove the dumb evasion and my hatred for seafood would be lessened

Champ Karka Hive Defender is still a dumb boss

Standard Karka are fine, it's just the veterans that aren't worth the effort. That's a veteran in the trailer but hopefully he brought along some Ring of Fire specific Karka younglings with shiny new moves for us to fight as we skirt around his patch to get those nodes.

One imagines the Ancient Karka we slaughtered many moons ago, whose petrified corpse still litters the floor of the Bakestone Caverns, was the King.

I suspect that was also a queen, the ultimate matriarch of the brood that escaped the dragon (and is also incredibly old and huge, hence its title). I don't think the Karka have kinds, or even a male/female split. Seems they can all lay clutches, or males are some weird ass-other form and we never see them directly.

Its possible that males are whatever it is the sclerite weapons and shell are made out of... and are therefore actually attached to the larger females and are why the females have "body armor".

Every time you fight an adult karka, if the latter were true, you spend the first half of the fight breaking off her mate, lol.

New legendary with a dumbed down legendary system .... not sure how I feel about that one ...

Episode was great, but being stuck because the Tarir assault happens sucks !

Just a bit a spoiler for the first mission,
the final wave blue orb is a trap....do not go after it if you want that achievement....
it's nothing to do with the story more the mechanics of the fight for a achievement, just giving you a heads up so you don't have to repeat it..like i must..

Well LS3 continues to be quite good. New map is great that feels like it has more stuff going for it than bloodstone fen, and some interesting story moments happened.
Aaaaaah baby dragon.X3

Also new Developer AMA.
