Halo Wars is a real-time strategy game in the Halo Universe. It begins in the year 2531, 21 years prior to Halo: Combat Evolved, during the Covenant eradication of the Outer Colonies in the Human-Covenant war.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is an enhanced version of the real-time strategy classic, offering an updated chance to go back to the early beginnings of the iconic war between the Covenant and UNSC and experience the epic saga in brand-new ways.

It's such a shame that you can't get this separately...and it's Windows store exclusive. Being sent out to die.

Was this game any good?

It's good for console RTS standards, but that's a very VERY low bar. If you play it on PC you'll realize how slow and basic it is.

That said, it's not a problem if you're a fan of RTS games in general, but if you're looking for something fast paced or deep, you won't find it there.

The campaign is cool though, and gorgeous cutscenes.

I can almost guarantee it will be standalone eventually after Halo Wars 2 launches. This isn't going to be another Infinite Warfare fiasco.

Shame it's UWP + Pre-Order exlusive + super expenive.
I'd love to play this, because I missed the Xbox version but not like this...

I'm hoping that I can get it separate on Steam, that's probably the only way I'd buy it.

I'll keep my expectations in check though.

...I had no idea a sequel to Halo Wars was in development, never mind this remaster. Wow, they really dropped the ball on marketing this one. OT title on point.

Their approach to pc has mostly been UWP and Windows 10 store exclusive lately, that and this being first party has barely any chance of coming to steam.

It'll be released as a stand alone later. This is just a bonus for those that preorder.

I may jump in personally. For $100 Canadian, it's two games you get in the end. I'll wait for some early impressions first.

Question. Why do all of these Windows Store games say up to 4K? Sure that's great but if you have the power are you really not able to go higher? Some great screenshots in the PC thread are people that run the game at 8K or higher for them.

Probably due to it only being officially supported at 4k.

You can probably super-sample it.

You might also have the nice auto-resolution feature some of these games have.

That Halo Wars 2 is coming is pretty well known to be fair. Was at E3 even Game Awards.
Its made by Creative Assembly also and offcourse 343. But this one flew abit under radar indeed. Not so long ago we found out it was part of the Ulitmate Edition. Was a nice surprise tho.

Game was revealed at E3, there has been trailers and docs since, cross promotions with Halo 5 even. Even the existence of this remaster was leaked before it was confirmed.

May not be a lot of marketing, but it has been shown and talked about.

Then again, there was an user in here that didn't even knew about GWENT. :p

If I were to pre-order halo wars 2 ultimate edition now, would I get a code in time for tomorrow?

Most likely, yes.

LOL, I was like me and my friends all know about HW:DE... and then I opened the thread and realized people don't know about it.

Theres like 3-4 screenshots and not much marketing at all, but it sure is a nice bonus but nobody I knew had any idea about this before I told them.

Yep, they'll never learn their lesson. I wonder what they would blame the low sales on, piracy or PC gaming dying?

Dont think they really mind about sales otherwise they wouldnt give a PC copy for free or vica versa with play anywhere. Its more about giving games more value.

Cool just ordered it then on good old UWP, here I'm hoping the pc port is decent.

Not sure how they'll spin it but personally I believe they are doing this for the long run to try and get more people into their walled garden.

Do they at least credit Ensemble Studios? Cause I'm not seeing their logo in the OP's pictures.
Ensemble Studios made the base game but Robot Entertainment did post launch content and support, which was a bunch of the ex-Ensemble guys.

There is probably credits in the credit screen where its due.
Is this the first in-game shot we have?
Where did you find it?
It was sent to me and told it was HW:DE SS.

If not you can in theory refund with more or less no questions asked until HW2 release I'd assume.

FYI the codes are being distributed between 20th-27th December, you may not get it until the 27th at worse. I only pre-ordered yesterday so i guess we're in the same boat, hoping we're in the first wave :) !

I could have sworn I got the season pass for free during a promo for the Game Awards. I even found this thread about it on Slickdeals, but it's not showing up in my purchase history. I guess that was a glitch rather than a promo?

At any rate, I spent a lot of time playing the first Halo Wars, but I didn't like how the alpha/beta felt earlier this year. Even looking past the technical issues the gameplay wasn't as enjoyable to me. I would buy the definitive edition of the first game if it was sold separately, but I'm not going to drop $80 to preorder the bundle for it.

Ok good. Just wouldn't put it past MS to have a weird limit for some reason to go with UWP and windows store.

Makes sense though since that's probably the best way to say it for marketing.
