Hidden things left on videogames

I'm pretty sure that World of Warcraft still has Old Ironforge available through the mage bug, if they didn't plug it with a patch lately. I'm pretty sure that it will open eventually and be used for something so they won't bother to physically remove it from the map.

Although, it would be even more fun to actually be able to walk through the completely different version of Ironforge that was in beta.

Also, in beta there were a few MP3s in the packed file structure that aren't used in the game. I've heard them in trailers though. Not sure if they're still around.

Nope, and that's always bothered me. Not just the book, but for a while after Sunshine was out, one of the main designers or producers was bragging about some major secret hidden in an out-of-the-way manner (not the Shine Shirt), but after a bit, talk about that just suddenly stopped. I think when the game was rushed, a major extra was axed. Possibly a new sequence? The references to E. Gadd conveniently providing both the water pack and the paint brush/disguise set never sat right with me (Bowser Jr. said it was given to him by a man in a white coat, and FLUDD noticeably reacts to the description), and between this and one or two things you could draw from Luigi's Mansion, Gadd as a sort of "science above both good and evil" protagonist would've been very interesting. But he's obviously not that now, he's helping out with Mario Parties and running coffee shops.

Either way, for reference, here's some pics.

This structure is located in Mare Bay (I think it was retitled to Noki Bay in the US version). For the... third mission, I believe it was, you go down into a bottle to collect Red Coins. At the very bottom is a building, which at first you ignore as just background detail or dressing. But if you swim down to it, you can see an insetted door that you can't get through. (Shot 1.) Twist the camera around to see behind it, and you see a book that, to my knowledge, you never see anywhere else in the game.

What's creepier is there's a modeled structure inside. It'd be one thing if it was just stuck inside of a regular polygonal object, but not only is there a modeled outside, but an inside pathway as well, at some point you were meant to walk through this structure. Shot 3 is a slot on the other side that looks like an entrance or exit, and shot 4 is an attempt to show that there is an "inside", and not just the normal dead area in the middle of an unimportant polygonal structure.

I fiddled around that area a bit, trying to find ways to get it to open up, or crack the bottle to drain out the water or something, but no luck. Some people have said they got in there, but nothing happens. I assume either a cinema or flag needs to be triggered first to activate it, or (more likely) it was from an idea that was axed late in development. The structure I can see leaving, but why the book? Was it an obscure programmer joke? An issue where deleting it would've caused problems (but why not just set it to not be visible, if you can't delete it)?

That always bothered me too, I remember when there was a big campaign to try and figure out what it was, to no avail. Somebody should ask the devs so we can put this whole thing to rest once and for all.

For the longest time I tried to figure out what that thing was on my Ironforge map, then one day the horde raided Ironforge and tried to take down the King. Somehow they were able to access that area which I was never able to find a path to, that's when I learned how to get there (you have to be a ghost and walk through one of the big doors leading into the King's chamber).

Also, far off on Alcaz Island (In Dustwallow Marsh) there's what seems to be a prison camp. The island is filled with lv59-62 elites which as a lv60 rogue I was able to sneak past. At one point, pretty far into the island, you find a passage leading underground to what looks like sewers. It's a small area with no creatures, there are a few items inside with thier code names like "door_portcullis_026k", and after swimming through an underwater passage you come across...

The King of Stormwind, of all people. When you click on him he has no special voice files, just the standard male human chat strings. And he provides no quests or information.

I tried to find info on the "die niggers" Front Mission sound clip but found nothing. I'm still curious about where you guys found out about this.
I think it's actually in Front Mission Gun Hazard. It has tons of audio channels so finding it is a bitch.

I'm probably wrong, but DEO3's post looks worryingly like a spoiler for one of the major Alliance quest threads, whether or not it's incomplete/placeholder.

and don't forget how if you beat challenge mode in a specific way, that Virtua Cop character would have still images in less and less clothes)...
from gamefaqs

"Mini-Game (JP Version)
Delete all Fighters Megamix saved game files. Complete courses A through H. Course I must not be completed. Place OK marks on 1200 moves in training. Go to course I and press L. A screen full of question marks will appear. Find the two matching pictures to view a picture of Janet. Complete the mini-game again to view her without armor. Complete the mini-game again to view her with less clothing. "

I know for a fact the Euro version has this as well. After she strips to underwear the next picture is of her with all armour on again.

Saturn Quake had prototype LAN game if I remember correctly

Unused speech samples -
Sonic Adventure
Fighting Vipers 2
Virtua Fighter 2

Sonic Adventure also had ways of playing Amy on the pinball table, Tails in Emerald Coast and tails on the running down the side of a building in Speed Highway

I'm suprised there isn't more stuff hidden in Sonic Adventure. The game is so incredibly unpolished. With the rush to get it out the door, it seems like lots of little things would have been left on the disc...

It's more due to them not creating huge barriers around areas you are not meant to reach. The original way to get Tails or Knuckles into Emerald Coast was to glitch you way through that room with the button, and glide your way to the sand area.

E-102 and Amy got into Casinoopolis by glitching you way through the roof area of the train station, and floating to the other side.

Tails in Speed Highway: Morning had you basically make a suicide jump into a building that would trigger the change of level.

Sonic Heroes had some bits like that too. You could get Chaotix into areas only Team Dark should be able to get into.

Sonic Adventure had a HEAP of unused speech. One had the orbs saying "Collect 50 rings and you can transform into Super Sonic!". That would have been awesome.

i think we're forgetting what's considered the "ultimate hack" Playing as Wrath in WCW Vs. NWO world Tour. arguably the steepest learning curve ever created.

Regarding the Chris Houlihan cave in Zelda A Link To The Past, my father found it a long time before anyone else I knew about. He found it by falling down a hole inside or perhaps outside the pyramid in the dark world. I didn't believe him first, but he eventually convinced me that he HAD met an invisible man called Chris Houlihan in the game, so I sent a letter about it to some British mag. Super Play or something. I actually think the letter got printed, but I don't remember if they believed me or not :lol

Ugh. I can't believe this hasn't been figured out.
