The selection in Belgium is incredibly limited, and most of what's there, is pretty bad. There's You're Next, The Pact, As Above So Below, and then mostly crap.
That being said, I watched Hush on it the other night and man that was an amazing movie.

It's nothing mind-blowing but it's a must-see horror movie. I hesitate to call it a home invasion movie because that can bring up certain connotations when it comes to the horror genre. It's an excellent cat and mouse type horror movie with well-crafted tension.
Just saw 10 Cloverfield Lane. Absolutly essential viewing; especially since unlike so many otherwise superb horror flicks, it nails its ending. Not a perfect movie by any means, but creative, well-shot, and it stuck its landing gloriously. Tempted to make comparisons, but don't want to spoil anything.
If The Witch is worth watching for the cinematography alone, regardless of anything else, then 10 Cloverfield Lane is worth watching for just for Winstead's performance. It's a joy to witness both her and Goodman do their thing in this movie; but MEW really stands out in terms of subtlety and nuance.

Winstead has been universally fantastic in everything I've ever seen her in, even if the movie around her isn't the best. I'm surprised she's not more acclaimed than she is.

Is Cloverfield required viewing before seeing 10 Cloverfield Lane? I couldn't deal with the shaky cam, so I won't be watching the original.
Also, has anyone attended the John Carpenter yet? I just bought tickets for his show happening in about 3 weeks.

I'm really looking forward to see 10 Cloverfield Lane. Seems like they've gone into a different direction from the first film.
I haven't seen the first film - now I plan to. No idea if the two are related in terms of story, and I'm glad of that fact because my questioning about what was real and what wasn't might have been influenced by whatever reality is created in the first film.
Better to think of 10 Cloverfield Lane like a (good) post-Sixth Sense Shyamalan film. All his movies share a distinct Shyamalan vibe, but the fact ghosts exist in one doesn't necessarily mean they exist in all of them.

Last night I watched Scream Factory's release of Manhunter, and I honestly don't know how I feel about the film. The music is great but doesn't fit the world around it, and this movie's version of Graham is hilariously corny and ham fisted. It has some amazing scenes, but it's an ultimately forgettable but quotable movie.

The 3rd season hasn't been that good though, based on the handful of episodes I've watched so far.
That doesn't sound good...I'm still on season 1 and it's great.

The first two seasons are good, and well worth a watch. The first episode of the third season was promising, but unfortunately it went down from that. I hope it gets better further on, but I'm not getting my hopes up based on what I've seen some of my friends post about it on FB.
Worse than Green Inferno? I always found the most offensive part of his films to be their smug sense of superiority. Case in point: the "slacktivists" in Green Inferno.
For some reason schlocky horror directors trying to act like auteurs is something I find incredibly embarrassing.

Also, does anyone know if that new Witch film is any good? I've heard it's good for a horror film but is it good as a "film-film"?
I never made it past the first few eps of s3 Hannibal... The magic (and insanity) of s2 was completely lost. I want to get back to it at some point, but I wasn't that impressed.
But season 2 though. Every ep was like a rollercoaster. I even read through the GAF OT of it afterwards

The Witch is well made, don't worry about that part. It's a great period piece, there's natural lighting and old school accents. It just happens to be very slow paced as well. I found the movie boring as fuck but it does have a kind of cool story. I made the mistake of buying it off the hype. A rental was much more appropriate. I'd still recommend watching it to make your own mind up though. It's not trash by any means just fucking boring.

Green Inferno is the kind of bad that makes you laugh while not beeing enjoyable (unlike for example Sharknado, which is enjoyable bad), The Stranger is just plain boring.
huh, I've not seen that much of Eli Roths movies. Just Cabin Fever, that movie is crazy.

I'm planning a trip to Chicago this July and I'm hoping to catch his show while I'm there. He put a video on YouTube of his band playing the Escape From New York theme and it's quite epic.
The problems with Green Inferno are so prevalent that it's hard to list all of them, but these are the few that stand out to me:
Movie should have never even released. It's fucking garbage, and there is an end credit teaser scene like people would actually want another one of these things. The film is definitely a part of the late 10's rut, where for every decent indie flick that pops up yearly, there's multiple garbage tier horror sequels or films by big names.
- Movie spends the first act on a college campus, trying to introduce you to these characters that are awful and over privileged from the start. The writing is comically bad and the delivery is hammy but not in a good way. It plays out like a forgettable 00's comedy, but it wants you to take its antagonist seriously.
- When the plane breaks apart in air, there are individuals who are sucked out first. When all is said and done and the movie officially "begins", they start collecting themselves, and the people that fell out of the sky first land last and a canned scream plays and they die. In real time something like 10 minutes goes by!

Horror-GAF thanks for recommending Hush! I just watched it yesterday and it was really enjoyable. If anyone hasn't seen it yet but liked Oculus (same director) or those kind of "killer-invades-home" movies, I'd recommend it. There were several scenes more violent than I was expecting, in a good way.
Just saw The Forest and I am a little bit disapointed.
Movie started strong but really fell apart in the last third, also the movie was plain ugly every time it used CGI.
And so many jumpscares.

Nope, it points to nothing. I was very careful. Shyamalan's universes have ghosts, aliens, and wait-it-was-just-people. I have no idea what's in the first Cloverfield, but I think it's kaiju from the trailers. This film opens with viewers questioning everything regardless of their knowledge of the first film; as if you saw The Sixth Sense and now you're watching Signs, wondering if Mel Gibson's dealing with ghosts too. The film reveals itself when it chooses.

I've gone on record in saying Manhunter is my absolute favourite adaptation of a Thomas Harris novel. Yes it does have a distinctly 80's feel but it works perfectly within the neo noir style. Peterson's Graham has an unmistakable influence on Dancy's turn on Hannibal. It has pitch perfect cinematography and editing, as expected from a Michael Mann film. It also has the best interpretation of Hannibal Lector(Lektor here), that has the right balance of menace and charisma, without ever venturing into ham( even in Silence, Hopkins can be seen preening for the audiences at certain points).
I like to pretend that Hannibal is a prequel to Manhunter. Those two depictions of Graham are relatively one in the same.
Watched VVitch the other night and I thought it was pretty rad. Had to turn on subtitles because I couldn't understand a damn thing they were saying, but once I did I fell into the movie. Have a connection to the area really helped, and I love folklore. The authenticity is through the roof in this movie and it's one of the best psychological horror films I've seen in a long time.
Definitely not for everyone though.

I finally saw Creep and loved it. Not sure if I really think it's horror, especially given that I lol'd hard at the end.

they'd use the alarm during the climax battle as soon as it went off while she was cooking, and nothing really clever was done with her not being able to hear.

Watched Wolf Creek caused I wanted to watch the show and I heard the movie was good from someplace I can't remember.

I wish I did know somewhere. There was a horror community on PS4 that I was enjoying but it just got too big and was too overwhelming to read through. Not really what you're talking about though.

IMDb has a pretty active horror board. The blu-ray.com movies subforum also generates some good horror threads (and they do a 31 days of horror thing like GAF does in October). Their 2016 thread would probably be a good place to meet some people or find good discussions, recommendations, etc.
Not sure if those places are too big for what you're seeking. Bloody-disgusting has a forum but it doesn't seem very active. I found another place called Under the Morgue: All Things Horror. From a brief glance it seems fairly active but with a pretty small group of posters and waaaay too many subforums.

Sorry, I'm saying I wish I knew of a group of people to chill with and watch horror movies and talk about them later.
The community I was talking about was one of those PS4 communities. People get on there and just say something random about horror movies or give suggestions about horror movies. I was saying it was cool when it was more close-knit but then more and more people got invited, (1000+) and it was overwhelming to hop on and read all of the messages. That's just a personal thing though.
gamefaqs has a small horror community, they used to do movie nights but not anymore.

Finally watched Goodnight Mommy. I got the DVD for Christmas, but there were no English subtitles on it...pah!
I enjoyed it. It was very creepy rather than outright horrific (to me anyway), and I feel like a bit of a dumbass for not realising
