The first black lead in a AAA Ubisoft title is Assassins Creed: Origins.

Wrong.

If you check out her credentials, you wonder (or perhaps not) why Ubisoft chose her since she's primarily interested in topics like ...
  • Tales of Idolized Boys: Male-Male Love in Medieval Japanese Buddhist Narratives
  • The New Lady-in-Waiting Is a Chigo: Sexual Fluidity and Dual Transvestism in a Medieval Acolyte Tale
  • Non-Binary Genders in the Genji, the New Chamberlain, and Beyond
  • Overcoming Yoshitsune’s Shortcoming of Shortness: National Identity, Masculinities, and Corporeality in the Cultural History of Japan
  • The Queer Love Triangle of Lord Kiso, Imai Kaneira, and Lady Tomoe
  • How to Queer Acolyte Tales
  • Chigo no sōshi: A Homoerotic Handscroll of Five Buddhist Acolytes from 14th-Century Japan
  • Benevolent Infidelity and Subversion of Sexual Roles in a Love Triangle
  • Idolized Boys on Stage: Warawa-mai as a Power-Generating Machinery in Medieval Elite Society
  • Foster Brothers with Benefits: Subversions of Sexual Roles in a Lord-Vassal Dyad
  • Chigo no sōshi: Erotic Images and Stories of Five Capricious Adolescent Boys
  • From the Ugly Shorty to Pretty Young Thing and Precocious Boy Fighter: Fragmentary Images of Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
  • Overcoming Lookism: The Cross-dressing of the Heroine in The Tale of the New Chamberlain
And then there's this photo of her:

How difficult could it have been to find a bonafide Japanese born professor in Japanese history without all of the political/gender baggage?

Brain rot.

A quick google search leads to over a dozen professors specializing in the Sengoku Period in both Japan and the US. Including scholars who have researched women and marginalized groups in Japanese history. But yes, lets employ the one who is focused on "investigating how gender, sexuality, corporeality, and power are represented and negotiated in pre-seventeenth-century Japanese narratives and illustrations".

This is like a post from the Babylon Bee.

I'm not personally bother with yusuke being black, but i think the defenders don't understand why people are mad.

It's not because ubi chose a black samurai, it's why they did it, in the modern climate this doesn't come off as genuine (even if maybe it is).

If this was 15 years ago before the mind virus, way less people would have something to say against yusuke.

There would be just as many people mad because they acted the same way when GTA: SA came out. All these people on message boards screamed about it in a very similar way.

Some of you guys are unintentionally pitching co ideas for other games as an attempt to make the argument this shouldn't happen but...

Id fw an Asian samurai landing in Africa and learning their ways and how they survive HEAVY. Especially if they were creative enough ot not make him save the slaves from themselves or some bs.
Based on Ubisoft's track record, how well do you think they can nail it? If Koei Tecmo (KT) were to do this, I might have some confidence, as medieval Africa is pretty much an uncharted area in Western and Japanese media today
Even if by some miracle Ubisoft executes it perfectly, how many African gamers will buy it?
Similarly, even if they portray Yasuke perfectly, how many Asian gamers will buy it?

Yes, using a unique character based on their race in the Sengoku era will differentiate it from the other 131234213 Sengoku games out there.
The question is: Can Ubisoft create an interesting and unique story to complement it?
Doubt.
Look at the kunoichi—do they feel unique to you? Based on history, that's not how kunoichi act; it's more akin to thieves.

This is the closest to how real historical kunoichi are depicted

Either stupid or disingenuous.

Samurai Warriors, a hack n' lash bot murder simulator, that has character choice and aesthetics as a key draw, using Yasuke to add to that is fine. You can play as a male or female Japanese character is those games too.

So no, that's not an example of the woke virus. It's just cool.

Plus based on their track record, I trust Yasuke written by KT more than by some Ubisoft writer.

Musou games also arent a history lesson, they are mostly fiction and meant primarily as entertainment................like Assassins Creed. games.

Play as Black Samurai mowing down local while being cheered on by a local girl is entertainment? because it is different enough to 123125423 sengoku games out there?

Perfect summary of these events. Embarrassing.

so in summary:
did anyone ask the Japanese how they feel? (look at the thread you're in)
yes games pander for good boy points but its not all games (look at the writing staff)

So he agrees this game is goofy as fuck and his only problem is he dislikes racism, real insightful.

I think almost all Asians have no problem with Yasuke. Just a bit dissapointed for the lack of male representation, not a big deal

But can they create a good story from it, or is Yasuke only being used as a buffer to differentiate?

Let's wait for the actual user reviews of the game.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions

There's a lot of noise about that here in Asia too. And as far as I know, Nioh 2 sold even better in Japan than the first game. Not to mention, there are some significant differences between the two games.

I understand that the majority of users on this forum are Western players, so it's hard to see things from the perspective of Asians.
It's also disheartening to see the voices of Asian users constantly being ignored (not referring to you).

There has always been a major problem with the understanding of history in the USA because so much of it is lies told by a “specific group”. The fact that “the specific group” is talking about culture appropriation is actually insane when you really understand history lol.

Not sure that game adds anything to the argument when Jean Reno is French and Onimusha 3 was set in modern day Paris.

Onimusha is a fictional about war between demons and humans. I guess it was about mixing up the third installment but there are various Asians groups in Europe and the Americas,so Jean Reno wasn't necessary,a different Asian male lead could've been substituted.

Capcom went out of their way to make a second non-Asian lead to Samanosuke Akechi.

I'm supposed to be impressed by this terrible analogy?
lets apply the same questions to this example

did anyone ask the Japanese how they feel? (They made it)
yes games pander for good boy points but its not all games (Is team ninja, the studio behind dead or alive woke? no, no they aren't)

lets go further, nioh is explicitly a fantasy game about fighting supernatural demons. Assassins creed has a trailer where the professor of underage gay sexual relationships in medial japan gives her stamp of approval to yasuke as a historical figure, citing history as the motive for his inclusion, in their own words assassins creed has always been about history. Dont argue with me take it up with Ubisoft and how they view and promote their own series. Williams was a significant, highly influential figure in Japanese history, yasuke was not. Williams was a documented samurai, yasuke may or may not have been as there is no data that confirms he was, aka yasuke being a samurai is speculation.

There's nothing wrong with williams or yasuke having their own game. The problem is woke retards are writing AC shadows, yasuke was chosen because of his skin colour and nothing else, Ubisoft is hiding behind history instead of owning their politics and you are defending them with terrible counter arguments that ignore context.

Who knows. The game was set in modern France and they maybe they wanted an ethnic French man as the joint lead?

It was developed in Japan and written by Japanese writers. Pretty sure Keiji Inafune was producer. Write to them and ask?

They should be allowed to make whatever they want. If they want to make a black trans woman ninja in a wheelchair killing a bunch of white people or asian people or whatever they should be allowed to.

But you shouldn't buy the game. Primarily because it's a goddamn UBIsoft game and their games suck
