I don't get how anyone could find NMH boring but to each their own, I guess. This thread actually reminded me that I never tried Shadows or Lollipop so I went and picked them up (new) from GameStop last night. Great job at drumming up business for Suda, Matt!

You know, before this whole thing kicked off and I saw this, I saw this mode being covered on other sources and asked my female friends if they thought this was offensive or "objectifying" and none of the seemed to have an issue with much of it outside of the looking through clothes thing. One of them even said that this game doesn't even come close to club life. I have no idea what club life entails and I dont think I want to know.

I'm just a little bit baffled by people who think their opinions speak for all of women when it comes to what is deemed a "female sexual fantasy" or whatever. I only ever wanted muscles to impress the girls at school and cause they were all over the sports dudes and jocks. Big arms and a nice six pack were all the rage. I don't really understand the "male power fantasy" argument that's so popular, or why so many people are willing to assume that muscles are strictly a male interest, be it sexually, for health reasons or just to be stronger period.

Shit like that is why all my female friends in the fitness/bodybuilding industry get so much shit.

I'm glad I checked out this thread for this alone. Playlisted.

I'm interested in seeing how this game turns out. Was intrigued by the styling, but even more curious of how the action plays out.

I'm just amazed that anyone's a fan of Suda's since Killer 7.

All his shlock has been just that, shlock, since. I kind of wonder if Killer 7 was just a fluke. Instead, his publishers spend his marketing budget advertising a cosplayer instead of the game itself.

Even Dragon's Crown's porny pictures are all fanart. Anything with the sorceress also shows gameplay rather than just slow panning shots with nothing going on.

SUDA51 games have a ton of style and flair. But they are, generally, subpar games. His most solid game was Shadows of the Damned, and even then, that's probably due to Shinji Mikami's involvement.

That being said, people who get upset about sexism in Shinji Mikami's games are the same people who complain about racism in Tarantino movies.

NMH is a relatively bad character action game that's dripping in style. So is Lollipop Chainsaw. Shadows of the damn is a fairly subpar 3rd person shooter that's dripping in style. Those games are WAAAAAY more fun to watch than they are to play. Bottomline, Suda51 needs a team of talented designers and programmers behind him to make his games fun to play instead of complex eyecandy.

I have to admit I'm baffled by the irony that I liked/appreciated Killer 7 waaaaaaaaay more than Shadows of the Damned or Lollipop Chainsaw... yet I only got about 80% through Killer 7, but finished the other two.

I just finished Liberation Maiden (the first Suda51 written/directed game since NMH1) and it's actually incredibly fun, basically a cross between Zone of the Enders and Kid Icarus Uprising. It's not nearly as stylish or cerebral as his "Assassin" series but It's a joy to play, probably my favorite 3DS game outright.

Nah, more/better programmers means higher budgets, which means higher sales goals, which means a broader audience. I'd rather he just stick to the 3DS if anything.

Got the game today, will probably post a release thread later today/tomorrow when I actually find some time to play it.

I can't believe that some industry professionals - some of whom I like and/or admire - actually celebrated and shared that video over social media last weekend.

I still can't get over the line "it's all about context" before the admittance that no context can possibly be offered. It's a brazen attempt to mask the fact that this is knee-jerk, tabloid crap.

Anyway I wrote this, for what it's worth

So now that reviews are out and a lot of them are negative about the "gigolo mode", is Matt Lees redeemed?

He thinks so:

I was defending him before, but what an asshole.

The game is a piece of shit? Says who? Your fellow games journalists? Guess what, most people think games journalism is a piece of shit as well.

Also, his video had NOTHING to do with the game's quality, even if it is a piece of shit and the fanbase agrees with him on that, it still doesn't mean shit.

I like a lot of Videogamer.com's videos and everything (rarely visit their site aside from the YT channel), but I think Matt Lees seems a bit in love with himself. Calling people names like the above Tweet will really do him no favours.

Their channel is really good and I'm glad his video pointed me to it, their Ittle Dew video made me want the game and now I own it, they're very entertaining.

But yeah, he's getting way ahead of himself trying to prove he was right while offering no substantial evidence. The game is getting overall low scores from american reviews (europe seems to like the game a lot more), that say the game is mediocre or bad, therefore he was right about Gigolo Mode and Suda's career? Really?

Fuck logic, right?

He thinks so:

I think it says a lot about him that he has to get up on a soap box and mock the people rightfully criticizing him for a terribly shortsighted and misinformed video that had nothing to do on the game's quality itself.

So... congratulations, one review outlet agreed with you about the game being misogynist I guess?

Of course. That's exactly the type of response you should expect from a person who critiques media out of a genuine desire to share ideas and generate discourse, rather than a craven desire for respect, complements and accolades from others. Yep. He's a class act, that Lees. So self-aware, so cognizant of the many forms of criticism that came his way; a man with enough integrity to avoid the temptation of tarring every detractor with the 'manchild', 'woman-hater' and 'haterz' brushes deserves vindication.

So, are the people who called him a hack because of his sloppy logic, rather than some misguided attempt to cover Suda's ass, going to get an apology after those replies? I think not.

I think it says a lot about people in this thread who interpreted his criticism for a specific section of the game as a criticism of the entire game. Newsflash he found the rest of the game to be OK when ignoring Gigilo mode.

That's not what his tweet says.

In that case his tweet reeks of revisionist history just to point fingers at his detractors and it's making him look like even more of a tool.

What exactly is he celebrating or being owed an apology for again? Him being happy that the game is "shit" seems to go against the rest of his video.

I'll be very curious to see if they all dock GTA V several points for having erotic content in it.
