BTW - anyone kept track of the figures for the PSP over the past month or two? It seems to be in a downward slide at the moment, but I'm not sure whether I'm misremembering the figures.
Here's a line chart from the week of September 4 to this week's numbers.

What caused this?
Last week the X360 Core launched and sold 6580 units, so it's still that.

Awesome, 10+ million consoles sold this year. Is that the most ever, or did the Famicom/Super Famicom days have crazy numbers?
Given that Japan has tended to be a one-console land, and that nothing has ever performed like the DSL, I doubt any Famicom/Super Famicom + Game Boy year came close to this.

Speaking of the yearly totals, DS+DSL is still ahead of the 2005 total thus far, but that will change. It might be able to sell 3.5 million more if the supply is there, but it won't be.

medrew said:
How did you come to this conclusion? The DS has been out pacing the PSP 7:1 and you expect it to be this close? This would pretty much require PSP sales to peak, to head in its exact opposite trend. Baffling.
All systems greatly increase during that time of year. However, DS production can't possibly allow it to increase as many times as the other systems.

Pac-Man must open wider than he has since the week of March 27, when DSL had 50.8% of hardware sales... though DS had an additional 20.4%.

PSOne downloads on PS3 will boost the PSP!

EDIT: And as a side effect, cannibalize PSP software even more. :(

Rest of 2006:

DS : 2,000,000
PSP: 1,000,000

Wii: 1,000,000
PS3: 400,000
PS2: 400,000
Xbox 360: 80,000

Total 2006: over 14,000,000

The PSP will sell 1 million units in Japan in the next 6 weeks?

I have a bridge to sell you.

i have 162,960 for 360. LOL. PS3 you'll never catch up. Wodner what 360 sales will be next week? Cause no releasese. Bu the week after that is DOX2 and Culdecept Saga. C'mon 360 momentum.

PS30wned.

As far as DS does, I think this is the calm before the storm, as strange as that sounds. It will only increase till the end of the year. They better have the supply ready.

I'm almost scared to see what the DS+wii combos will end up doing. Wii launch week will be insane.

Yeah, but on PS3 launch week, the DSL STILL sells more then the rest put together.

It seems like the only thing that could put a dent in DSL sales is Nintendo's own Wii.

Just had a neat idea. Pack in Pokemon BR, DSL and Pokeman Pearl/Diamond with a Wii in Japan. Would sell like crazy.

Ugh, both PSP and PS2 go down 20k line.....PS2 just had a pricedrop but it seems Minna no Tennis helped more than the pricedrop. Somehow I guess that if PSP gets a pricedrop, a similar effect would happen if no software is release to pump the system.

Bad week for Sony, PS2 slowed a lot, PSP down the critical line and PS3 start a mess.

I still say PS3 won't catch X360 before Wii is released (and outsells both). They won't lead next-gen market even just one week after 6 year domination last gen.

Nah, just forgot to add 'this year' :lol

Although yeah, personally, I think Wii is going to lead the market at least until Summer. Sony won't have enough units, even if the demand is there...Long-time prediction, dunno.

Btw, TALES OF DESTINY on 11/30, just one week delay afterall. A little reminder of this awesome two weeks...

11/22 (dunno why 22 since its wednesday, some holiday?)

NDS Bokura no Taiyou: Django and Sabata
NDS Oshare Majo Love and Berry (DS Collection)
PSP Jeanne D'Arc
PSP Riviera: Yakusoku no Chi
360 Culdcept Saga
360 Dead or Alive Xtreme 2
NDS Jump! Ultimate Stars (11/23)

PS2 Summon Night 4
PSP Makai Senki Disgaea Portable
360 Super Robot Taisen XO
GBA Final Fantasy VI

The real neat thing about the PS3 is that it seems to be killing off Sony's other products instead of competition.
Wasn't that the PS2's neat thing already? Only kind of backwards.

Such a low impact launch overall.

Considering Sony's expected shipment number to Japan, I'd say that's unlikely. The expect to ship 1 million to Japan in 8 weeks with 100K the first week. Unless it's backloaded, that's ~125K/week from here on out. The DS still trounces it every week, of course, but it should pass the 360 next week or by no later than two weeks.

Yeah but I'm hanging with the 30k figure we heard a little ago...you know, skipped Europe, 100k, then 80k, finally its 80k, NA supposed 400k, seems its less...its not difficult to see Sony screwing up again. Oh, and no games but a mahjong.

BTW, did Famitsu even review it yet????

Also, it seems Konami only shipped 26300 copies of the game.

Do you have the link to the thread?? I want to see why they scored it less than CV:DOS.

Not sure I have a link, but I'm pretty sure the thread didn't have review content which is what you're looking for, but DoS got 33.

Probably quite sensible, given previous sales for the series. I would hope they are prepared to ship more if demand is there, though, as I think it has a reasonable chance of shifting more than DoS did. Selling well over a third of its first shipment on day one is a promising sign and it'd be a shame if any potential it has was killed because Konami ****ed up on further shipments.

EDIT: Wow! at both Tingle RPG and Rhythm Tengoku. Nurture those franchises, Nintendo, because that's a pretty impressive showing for two new handheld series.
