Ive been optimistic IE would do at least a bit better than last year, with last years terrible for the series more tondo with the low 3ds user base at the time than franchise fatigue as most seem to think

Its also worth noting the Wii u monhun figure doesn't include the bundle

It's not just because it's on a new system, it's also because it's an entirely different main cast. Not everybody likes change, but game 2 with the new cast should tell us whether the new series is accepted by the majority of IE fans or not. It doesn't have to rise to heaven like the original IE2, but if IEG2's sales stay around the same as IEG1's or only a little bit better (or in the worst case less than IEG1's sales) than I'm not sure what Hino would do.

Although he did say something about "going back to the origins" when he talked about announcements during the IE tournament next year.

Iwata apologizes again for the continued Animal Crossing sellouts, reiterates that it can be purchased online, and says that he expects the situation to continue for a bit. Apparently Animal Crossing is using SLC-NAND memory which hasn't been used in 3DS carts before, as the game requires a lot of save data, which is causing production of carts to be held up.

A secret plot to push for digital? Genius Mr. Iwata-san!

Too bad for Nintendo, even with the digital option its not hard to figure that the continued short supply is hurting AC's potential sales. Hopefully for them they can get it sorted ASAP but it doesn't sound like it. When parents can't find AC for their children's holiday present, they won't wait, they will buy something else.

Instead they'll buy another game for the 3DS. I'm sure the stock situation will be sorted before the big holiday weeks, but anything bought on the 3DS benefits Nintendo. I'm not there so I can't say, but Animal Crossing seems like the game that wouldn't easily end up accumulating a bunch of used copies.

Hm, I hope they make those type of carts available to 3rd party devs as well. Save data was an issue for VLR, thus we only had one slot on the 3DS.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
The digital version of animal crossing is in some ways better that way you dont have to keep switching game cards in and out all the time. Though for collectors I can see why its a bit of a disappointment not having easy access to physical copies at the time being.

Super Robot Wars Original Generations 2 (this week biggest release)

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney

Fate/Stay Night hits the VITA

more releases for the week

Is SRW really the biggest release?

I thought that PWxAA had an actual shot at beating OG's first week if the sales of the last two Anime SRW are anything to go by.

I believe the biggest savadata available is 512k. VLR really should easily have been able to fit a few files on here. There's not that many choices you can make, and even though you can save anywhere, it shouldn't take much information to describe the game state given the type of game. Even at 128k it shouldn't have been much of an issue. Then again I've never understood why some game have save files as big as they do, and I've never worked on a very data intensive game.

So Layton vs Wright's gonna be the 2nd biggest release then? Thought it was going to be a shoe-in for 1st.

F/sn's cover looks nice.
edit: snap the back is even better. Dat Sakura.

[3DS] Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney - 20%

I had a feeling this would mildly to moderately underperform given how Layton transitioned to this generation and Phoenix Wright was never a huge opener, but this seems worse than I expected.

I think my guess was 110-130K first week, though I definitely didn't post it here, so I don't blame anyone who doesn't believe me.

I believe the game also stored all the text that has been displayed, so it knows what can be skipped during a fast forward, which greatly increased the file size.

The game basically disappeared for a year before being fully revealed during TGS 2011.

We don't know how many units were shipped

Let's say L5 shipped 350k and it will sell 40% in the FW. That would put the game at >140k

Iirc L5 shipped 400k for IE 3DS and Layton 3DS in the first week

Yeah I think that was a fair part of my bad vibes, since it never really felt like it actually came back that strongly in marketing.

It could just be an incredibly aggressive shipment yes, but after their previous results I have to wonder.

A specific number wasn't given, sellthrough could be anything between 20 and 50%. But some blogs had reported high preorders for drums and stick bundle.

- donny2112 was last in October and lunchwithyuzo was first (percentages), this month they traded places. Moral of the story: Don't give up if you did badly once.
- donny2112 tried hard to be last again by betting 350k on Yakuza HD, though.
- The_lascar maybe had a typo on Pokemon, but that ended up being in his favor. Even if he had written 250,000, he'd still be 1st place by percentage (with a worse score), but would fall to 3rd by units.

My predictions for the month of November were pretty embarrassing.

I learned the hard way to never underestimate a portable Animal Crossing title. I've predicted 1,200,000 for December.

A specific number wasn't given, sellthrough could be anything between 20 and 50%. But some blogs had reported high preorders for drums and stick bundle.

Thanks for the additional info.

I thought Nintendo was going to badly undership. They did anyway, but not near as bad as I figured.

I guess many focused too much in the (supposed) 200k first shipment report (I know I did). We also didn't know Nintendo's plan of shipping a lot of download cards too.

I should have just paid attention to comgnet and amazon.jp rankings.
