What contracts and deals? Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax uses characters from the Dengeki Bunko label of various light novels series. They are all owned by Kadokawa. It's one company. :p

Well, doesn't Sega need to make a deal with Kadokawa for this collaboration to happen?
A sequel would imply more characters, and even if there were no cameos from other companies, it would need a new deal.

Dragon Quest doesn't really mean anything to me, never touched the series and didn't know it was popular (or even coming out in Japan).

But if you saw the PS4's number over the 3DS, you likely saw a 270k game releasing for that system in the same week.

the main argument about this (last) week was PS4 spike, so let's see how it is doing

PS3 vs. PS4
Code:
week 52 - 1,273,555 / 1,049,426 -224,129
week 53 - 1,329,445 / 1,072,636 -256,809
week 54 - 1,382,261 / 1,119,131 -263,130
not good luck here, PS3 was entering winter holidays 2007

PS4 vs. Wii U
Code:
week 52 - 1,049,426 / 1,200,339 -150,913
week 53 - 1,072,636 / 1,247,112 -174,476
week 54 - 1,119,131 / 1,320,094 -200,963
same here, winter holidays 2013 and week 55 has
11
9,159 for Wii U...

PS4 vs. Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 52 - 1,049,426 / 1,200,339 / 1,545,681
week 53 - 1,072,636 / 1,247,112 / 1,564,954
week 54 - 1,119,131 / 1,320,094 / 1,577,738
at least there is a positive result compared to GC which is a little far from winter holidays 2003 (actually week 16-22/09/2003)

Really? Doraemon is quite a popular franchise in Japan, the anime, movie & merchandise sales are quite exquisite. It's odd that its success doesn't translate in the video game space.

I think this game bombing is a good thing, because all indications are it is a crap game (e.g. 5/6/6/6 score in Famitsu, which is really bad.) and it shows Japanese consumers won't throw their money at any old game with a famous character on it. That's nice to see. Also, it's the fourth or fifth Doraemon game on the 3DS (brand fatigue) and it's published by Furyu, which doesn't have the best reputation for quality.

It'd be interesting to see whether Etrian Mystery Dungeon might increase with respect to Etrian Odyssey Untold 2, even though they were released so closely. As for New Prince of Tennis, it seems the female audience is buying this type of games on 3DS.

Indeed basically no one bet on 3DS as the otome platform. The first PSV Hakuoki sold greatly, though, that's why the result of the porting was particularly bad (and also the IP has an history on Sony platforms). No one was expecting La Corda D'Oro third porting to sell so well.

He was also shocked when a full priced Vita port of a full priced psp port of a budget ps2 game bombed late last year (EDF2).

But that's why we like him.

I was shocked as long as the first porting sold really well.

That sell through is very high so I do wonder how it will continue selling.

A sequel would imply more characters, and even if there were no cameos from other companies, it would need a new deal.

What makes you think it's a one way thing though? Looking at the results, I would say Kadokawa probably wants a sequel as much as anyone else. It's great business for their brands, and they'll want to build on it.

I agree with Duckrroll here. Kadokawa would love to use this game to promote moarrr of their LN product for sure.

Hell, they can even add some obscure one to promote the series not only to Japan demographic but also international baka-tsuki group lol.

Technically if 205k for standalone PS4 version was accurate and there wasn't big rounding error that's 65k bundles shipped at December and 235k sw copies last week. Week 1 becomes a little less than 590k sell in.

I'm most interested in this one next week. Up from Untold 2? Down? The consistency of the series seems a little bit shaken after that last installment, so I wonder if a genreshift might shake things up.

I expect it to be down from Untold 2, but due to Mysterious Dungeon more so than EO. The series has really cratered in terms of popularity from the glory days. After a few years, even the Pokemon brand couldn't sell 500k on the DS. The shipment was probably low due to these expectations, so it's a positive sign for the EO brand that it seems to have more demand than retail expected. It might even outsell Untold 2 ultimately, but for the first week I definitely think it will do less than Untold 2.

Do we have sell through percentage for DQH on Media Create yet?

Already answered but I'll give a more detailed response from their writeup. Media Create confirms that the 269k figure for PS4 includes all the sales for the Dragon Quest Metal Slime Edition PS4 from last Dec until now. The sell-through percentage for PS3 is 92.25% (which means the PS3 shipment was about 352k in the period), while for the PS4 is 89.89%, but I don't think we can calculate the exact software shipment since they do not specific what the exact sales figure for the PS4 bundle is right now. They also mention that it appears that download sales for the game is also pretty high, but they don't have any figures on that.

I think this one will only had small chances of selling more than Untold 2 here or in the best scenario sell the same as Untold 2.

Spin-off rarely sells the same amount as main title.

It might be a spin-off but It's still a collaboration. We can't be sure how many Mystery Dungeon fans will be interested in the game.

I too am not that optimistic about it, though.

Just saying that even if Kadokawa is interested, both will want/need to re-negociate contracts, and that it is never as simple as we think it could.
Not disagreeing with you there.

I didn't say it's "simple", I said that I believe it has a very good chance of happening. There's really nothing that stands in the way since they already having a working relationship and this wasn't meant to be a one off project anyway.

Since we were talking about Dragon Ball recently:

While also revealed earlier today in a post on the official movie blog, movie news site Cinema Today has also reported on the bonus items that will be distributed to the first 1.5 million theatergoers attending the upcoming film Dragon Ball Z: Revival of “F” in Japan.

While supplies last, each ticketholder will receive a “Dragon Ball Ultimate Card Set” containing a Dragon Ball Heroes card of either “movie-version Vegeta” or “movie-version Son Goku”, as well as a collection of codes unlocking movie-related content in the games Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 (3DS), Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle (iOS/Android), Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale (arcade), Dragon Ball XENOVERSE (PS3/PS4/360/XBO/PC), and the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butōden (3DS).

http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2015/03/07/revival-of-f-theatrical-bonus-items-revealed/

The last is interesting in that the bonus is a demo only available to theatregoers with movie characters.

Toei is hoping the new movie tops ¥4 billion.

C'mon Pennywise, you know a port should always sell worse than a new game. Last week you claimed that a Vita port of a game that had been released a few times "sold badly" at 7366 copies. This week you're saying a 3DS port of a game that had been released a few times "sold about what expected" with 2369. Now you're claiming that there were big expectations for the Vita port of a game that already came out on PS2, PSP and DS. Really?

But if you saw the PS4's number over the 3DS, you likely saw a 270k game releasing for that system in the same week.

Well obviously I know that /now/. Just saying it was never a thing on my radar before.

I mostly play Compile Hearts RPGs now. Don't judge me.

That's quite a goal Toei set themselves. That would place it among the same ranks as Doraemon & Case Closed who usually reach ¥4 billion, and Pokemon to an extent, though not with the recent two.

Furthermore, they are releasing the film the same day as Case Closed: Sunflowers of Inferno. I'm not sure how they are suppose to reach that threshold...

The previous Dragon Ball film did about ¥3 billion in 2013. I expected Revival of F to do worse, but it seems Toei has different expectations.

There's something called "context". PSV has been positioned as the "otome" platform; Hakuoki always saw some nice sales on Sony platforms. Also, La Corda d'Oro never appeared on a Nintendo platform and it was also a porting of a quite recent game, completely out of place.
