Nintendo is Discontinuing the NES Classic in North America

If people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for chrono trigger or earthbound complete in box, there will be people willing to shell out for one of these. People are crazy about Nintendo.

The official NES Classic controller, which retailed for $10, is now selling for over $200 on eBay new in box.

Prime has some for $60 shipped, but probably not for long. I paid $40 shipped two weeks ago and left it in the box. The official Club Nintendo Super Famicom controller is $53 shipped on eBay, anybody wanting an official controller should buy that before paying $60 for the NES one IMO. Better ergonomics.

That's hilarious. I remember hearing about it being $10 when it was new and thinking i'd impulse buy a couple. Nope!

I have the NES Classic retro receiver for 8bitdo's wireless NES controller as my 2P anyway.

I highly recommend a Wii U Pro controller over the 8bitdo controller, YMMV.
I guess I have that option don't I? Good tip.

So much of that classic NES feel is due to the blocky controller shape to me though... I don't even like using dogbones ;)

So silly that Nintendo shipped so few of these. Over half of the games on the NES classic are 2 player!

Also, it just occurred to me that a lot of these NES controllers could have been leftovers when Nintendo were originally going to sell all the old school controllers for the Wii. Which would explain why the cord is only 3 feet long.

I can play with NES controllers just fine, even though I prefer dogbones, but the 8bitdo controller feels awful to me. The dpad is terrible compared to every official Nintendo controller I have ever owned.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
Just a heads-up, but a Wal-Mart an hour away got some NES Classics in today (they were in the back, going to be put up on the shelves tomorrow) and I had some amazing luck and got one. You may want to check brickseek to see if your Wal-Marts got any. This weekend is the last shipment for any store since it's the end of April, but some stores are still getting some.

All the targets in my area were showing in stock (but zero quantity) on brick seek this morning. They all already show out of stock now in my area, but it looks like target may have gotten a shipment for those looking.

Saw the closest Target to me had 4 in stock today, so got there two hours early.

Was first and only one other person came an hour early. The manager never came out and once we had 5 minutes until the store opening, I called to ask what's the situation?

Needless to say I was told they were back at electronics and were first come first serve. Well now we had a large gaggle of people behind, and a few that got there late were going to run for them. I was pissed at the situation, but still finally managed to get one. 👍

Just saw this on the news, they're now even slightly more rare!

To anyone saying Nintendo is crazy for stopping production, consider a few things:

- They (probably) make more money selling the Switch (between the BotW attach rate and higher cost of the console) than the Classic
- Thanks to Nintendo keeping their IPs relevant, the NES Classic's demand will probably never wane. They can produce more Switches in the short-term instead, and build that up until sales slow down, then switch back to the Classic to keep revenue up.

2 NES Classics in stock and 6 people in line 3 minutes before the doors open. They even fuck with your head by having Mario Kart audio playing when the automatic doors open... *BEEP*...*BEEP*...*BEEP*... "YIPPEE!"

Another nearby Target had 6 in stock, but I didn't want to waste my time go over there based on how this encounter went.

That's pretty foolish handling. That's when you wind up with a bunch of fools running thru the store or injuring each other.

Had a friend watch a woman pee all over a Best Buy floor when she was kidney punched by someone over something similar.

There were 3 in stock by our local Walmart yesterday which meant they were delivered to be sold the next day.

So this morning me, my cuz and bro went in at like 5am to line up. Luckily Brickseek was correct and we each got one. First time I've done this besides black friday from the past.

Did I mention, fuck nintendo yet?

I found some at a local ToysRus as of 2 1/2 hours ago. They had about 5 left after I purchased mine. The clerk even said no one really asked for them as they figured the store didn't get any in. They had 10 total. I wasn't even planning on buying it.

Someone on CheapAssGamer posted this story

"I was just witness to both the dumbest thing and the saddest thing in the world. Was out for an early dinner with some friends and after leaving the restaurant realized I'd be driving past a Walmart. Decided to check brickseek and the store showed some in stock. Figured they were gone, but decided to go in anyway since it was on my way home. Go back to Electronics area and see a line of about 6 people who look a bit irritated, well shit. Was about to turn around and leave when I saw an employee come up to the group so decided to see what was said. It's a manager, some smug looking dude, who tells the group that they have no NES Classics. Dude at the front of the group immediately starts screaming at the dude, they've been waiting 30 minutes because they were told they were being offloaded off the truck and that BrickSeek still shows they have some that weren't there an hour or so ago. Manager is smirking but tells the yeller that it's wrong and they have no classics. Yeller gets even more pissed at the manager, not undeservedly because this dude is oozing smug and even if he isn't hiding them he sure is giving off the vibe. The rest of the group is upset but distancing themselves from the yeller with a couple just leaving. The manager tells the yeller that he has to leave or the police will be called, this prompts the yeller to start threatening to call corporate and everything under the sun "I'll have your job you minimum wage mother Fuck er. I make more in a day that you make in a month" kinda stuff. I highly doubt that last bit but this is the last straw for the manager and he puts his hand on the yeller's arm, not in a violent way more of in a showing him the way towards the front, and starts to escort him out of the store. Yeller decks the manager, lays him out, and the rest of the group behind the yeller has decided to nope the Fuck out at that really quickly. Couple employees grabbed the dude and held him down and the manager was getting back up, blood pouring out of his face and started calling someone. He must've gotten the manager with a ring or something. I assume he was calling the police.

Decided that was the time to leave and basically make me not want to even try to locate one even if driving past a store."

So I guess I got my order in just in the nick of time? I don't know German but I did get an email order confirmation that says Versandart (Delivery): AmazonGlobal

Thanks! I put in order in even though it's pricey. $35 shipped to the US.

Retailers seem to engage in some price gouging now. Got my first controller for less than 10 EUR at launch, then another one yesterday for 13 EUR. Now Amazon.de is selling it for 20 EUR.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I see a Classic controller on Amazon under the marketplace options, $8 total, new seller. No way that's actually the controller, is there?
