PAL Charts - Week 20, 2014

If you look at the sales chart for May, which is what I believe he's talking about with reference to the price cut, it's a slightly different story.

1. Watch Dogs (PS4)
2. Watch Dogs (Xbone)
4. Wolfenstein (PS4)
8. Wolfenstein (Xbone)

XO Watch Dogs is close because it's a big release. The year chart shows there's a still a gap.

Hopefully we'll get some numbers next week or just wait till another multiplatform title comes out.

Looking at the best sellers list for the year.

Watchdogs PS4 is already at No.3 behind Minecraft and Titanfall XO while Watchdogs XO is in 23rd place.

Wolfenstein PS4 is at No. 54 while the XBOne version isn't on the list.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2014/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar

I won't say it's close just yet.

Yea I was talking post price cut. Xbox has been doing well. I cant helpbl but wonder if X1 will overtake ps4 in us and uk.

Seriously forget the year chart. Its irrelevant. We are talking post price cut. And with the price cut further in june cant wait to see figures

I'll try to remember to post the UK software platform data for April sometime tonight. Sorry I forgot to get around to that. I also have the top 50 for April.

Sales charts and reports say US/UK have PS4 leading by a decent margin.
Let's not forget that around. Titanfall release Xbox One had price cuts and discounts. PS4 was still the top selling console in both territories most weeks if insiders are to be believed.

Hey, finally got time to put some tables together for y'all.

Enjoy.

Thanks JVM :)

Anyways interesting to see that PS3 and X360 have almost the exact same drop in both units and revenue

Wii U is somewhat interesting as unit sales being up almost 3 times as much as revenue indicates to me that Wii U buyers are buying older games with their consoles which is likely discounted to compete with used copies

Slight 3DS growth so yay? Still suggests new buyers are buying older titles in my opinion

PSV being at NDS levels is uh not good

Enjoy.

I think May results are going to be pretty interesting.. let see if PS4 can take a lead with Watch Dogs.. But look like TitanFall has helped XO quite a bit.

Hmm, so for units:
Code:
Xbox consoles -3%
PlayStation consoles	+14%
Wii* consoles -35%
PC -45%
Handheld -26%
*Wii + Wii U, in case it's not clear.

PC I would chalk up to the transition to digital distribution continuing its march.
New system launches are managing to roughly even out the decline in software purchasing for old systems for Sony and Microsoft.
Handheld continues to decline. And Wii U can't make up for the lapsed Wii userbase.

It’s a debut at No1 for Bethesda’s Swedish studio MachineGames first game - ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order'.

It's the 6th game in a series that began in 1981 with ‘Castle Wolfenstein’ and becomes the 2nd biggest release of 2014 (behind Microsoft’s Titanfall initial release in week 11 on Xbox One/PC) and New Order accounts for a quarter of all entertainment software unit sales in week 21, 2014 (36% of all revenue). It is also the first ‘Wolfenstein’ to reach No1 on the All Formats Chart in the UK, also topping each individual format chart (All Format Charts began in 1997), with Activision’s ‘Return to Castle Wolfenstein’ (2001, 4th game in the series) reaching No11 and sequel ‘Wolfenstein’ (2009, 5th game in the series) reaching No2 in week 34, 2009 (behind Wii Sports Resort). Sony climb one place to No2 with ‘Minecraft PS3 Edition’ (+49%) and EA’s ‘FIFA 14’ drops 2 places to No3 (+15%).

Microsoft’s ‘Titanfall’ also drops 2 places to No4 (-3%) but EA’s ‘2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil’ remains at No5 for a third week (+20%). The only other new release to grace the Top 40 is Codemasters’ ‘F1 2013: Complete Edition’ at No34. On PC Full Price Kalypso debut at No4 with ‘Tropico 5’ and on PC Budget Deep Silver/Koch debut at No12 with the humorous ‘Goat Simulator’.

Titanfall is still the game to beat sales-wise this year. Let's see if either Mario Kart or Watch Dogs can do that next week.

Minecraft: PS3 Edition (+49%) - 10,974 < x < 13,644
FIFA 14 (+15%) - 10,974
Titanfall (-3%) - 8,882

Awesome. Even though that's the combined sales score for 5 platforms, hopefully game will sell well and enable Machine Games to make another game. I would be incredibly bummed if they dont get chance to continue working.

CVG reports more details about 1st week Wolfenstein UK sales:
PS4 38%
Xbone 31%
X360 12%
PC 11%
PS3 8% [not listed, but that's the percentage that is missing for reaching 100%]

Damn at the PS3.

About what I was expecting between PS4/X1.

Not even a miracle would be enough for Mario Kart 8 to debut higher than Titanfall.

Checking past Mario Kart titles, Mario Kart Wii sold 186,000 units in its first week while Mario Kart 7 sold below 58,000 units.

Wolfenstein 360 is lower than Minecraft PS3. We have a 3k range between its lowest and highest value. I don't know if I can make a good estimate out of this :(

Well WNO can be anywhere between 125k and 70k (ISS). Or was there another title debuting higher than ISS?

The splits don't really help either, because WNO 360 could have sold up to almost 13k and still match these infos.

We will know the exact Wolfenstein number when MCV magazine reports total software units sales in week 21.

That would just be a rough estimate though, since the 36% figure is revenue. There's a few titles there that don't have a full price. No?

Hey, finally got time to put some tables together for y'all.

Long time lurker, but I just wanted to say thanks for the work you do with putting these together every month, it's really interesting to see.

Pretty interesting seeing XB1 & PS4 so close. May should be fun.

Thanks. And, yes, it's quite interesting. We don't get this kind of view of any other market in the West, and it's a reasonable proxy for the U.S. to see how Microsoft an Sony are doing relative to each other.
