Finished a second playthrough (first time was on Xbox) and this is easily one of my biggest treats for the year and will be up there on the ole GOTY list.
Playing it slowly, exploring as much as was fun (all tombs, and most but not all of the collectibles and challenges), no survival instincts, and only bringing up the map if I was well and truly lost was my style, and I'd highly recommend it. The fixes to the deadzones and lag on the PS4 version make a huge difference and for the first time I was able to have a lot of fun with the combat scenarios. Being a second playthrough helped too, as I got to experiment more with the skills I avoided before.
The overall story was OK, but I found myself more interested in the mini-stories you'd follow from finding scrolls and the like. There's a lot to find, and each collectible seemed like they put some care and thought into it.
Was so hooked I played through the campaign, DLC, all of the expedition modes and started up a new campaign on the hardest difficulty that will be fun to return to from time to time.
And the game is fucking gorgeous, pro-patch or not. Its still a looker.
Gotta give Crystal and Nixxes some real credit here, because they've completely turned me around on this series from my crushing disappointment with TR2013. Its not classic Tomb Raider, but its a great game in its own right and I'm all in for the next one, especially if they continue to add more tombs and further tombify the open world hubs.
