So does this mean this game is not coming out on PC? I can certainly get it on 360 I suppose but I'd much rather play it on my gaming rig.

I'm not really excited for the follow-up. The following is my opinion. The 2013 reboot did not jive with me at all from combat, to the horrid story and it just felt generally brainless.

The combat did not know what it wanted to be, either a cover shooter or a rolling around marathon of loading bullet sponges with lead. The bow outclassed every other weapon being the headshot machine. Grenades and explosives were useless in comparison.

The tombs and puzzles were way to short and simple, they amounted more to nothing but rooms with pull said object to hit other said object and boom! You're in!

I know tomb raider games don't generally have good stories but holy hell I think Far Cry 3 up this one in intelligence, I was kind of baffled
how long it took Lara to realize that the crazy dude wanted to sacrifice her friend as the new body for the himiko
All the characters were laughably outlandish stereotypes the drunk irish dude, the muscle bound relax Hawaiian, the evil professor, the old mentor who worked with her father, the Asian friend, the angry black woman,
the nerd who dies for a good cause
. Also how did 1000s of people with guns even crash on that island? It was insane.
Oh and that one part where
you have to save the downed pilot and he dies, to then go and save the downed co-pilot who then also dies
was hilarious! It repeats the same situation twice, Lara kind of sucks at saving people.

I liked Lara though her character was really well done and I was rooting for her, even when Crystal Dynamics made torture porn with having her fall from hundreds of stories and being impaled on spikes, branches, tumble down like 300 hills. Man did those cutscenes want to kill her!

Some of the concern posts in this thread have me rolling. Say what you want about the writing or puzzles or whatever, but the last game was excellent regardless and a very strong GOTY candidate.

Very excited for this.

Unless someone didn't think it was an excellent game at all and as far from a GOTY candidate as, say, a boiled egg is from a cup of chocolate ice cream.

And lest you think it's "concern posts", would you like to see the topic receipts from the very first Tomb Raider 2013 threads wherein various posters ITT criticize it for being a hugely problematic game? You know, so you can trust our credentials in holding and being able to articulate and defend an opinion that is distinct from your own.

The quality of the story is unfortunate but comes with the territory. I'm not even sure what a good Tomb Raider story looks like.

I will say that the direction I wanted 2013 TR to go in would have been great for the game but terrible for the franchise: namely that Lara's blood-thirsty screams about "killing everyone" and "coming for all of you bastards" combined with the Apocalypse Now imagery were actually reflected by the story as it showed the degradation of Lara's sanity, leading her to act all Lord of the Flies towards her comrades.

Man this sounds awesome! I may be more hyped for this now than uncharted 4! I hope they come out as far apart as possible, but I have a feeling I will be going straight from one to the other.

Its basically a lock to come out on PC, so I would wait for that vs the 360 version. The ps4 version is harder to guess. I think it will come out after the PC version.

IMO the main weakness in TR2013 was with the character dialogue which I don't think was even written by her. The other main issue was the whole cognitive dissonance in that the gameplay makes you a mass murderer very quickly, but that's really more of a design issue.

You mean you liked the plot? With that generic supernatural crap with resurrections and possessions and masked people doing sacrifices? Hey, at least there were no zombies in it! Right?

I do have a concern with how fast Rise of the Tomb Raider is shipping when compared to Tomb Raider 2013. How big is Crystal Dynamics? If they're a 300+ development studio, then I can see how they could be making two Tomb Raiders at the same time.

I just hope Square does not rush them :(

Sorry guys, a damsel in distress story in 2013 (EDIT: In any year actually) can not be in any way decent. Besides that, every character was a slasher movie stereotype:

- Angry black girl? Check
- Friendzoned nerd? Check
- Dumb musclehead? Check
- Traitorous mentor? Check
- Damsel in distress? Check

Its like they weren't even trying.

I just want them to scrap every single character introduced on the reboot & not put any cool gameplay mechanics behind collectathon-walls, unlike most people on NeoGAF I enjoyed the reboot FAR FAR more than the boring older games, the gameplay was awesome.

Looking forward to playing this on Xbox One later this year, hopefully more difficult puzzles will be thrown in, perhaps Professor Layton style.

Sam's probably going to be there in some way shape or form.

Dear god no, Sam was one of the worst written female characters I have ever seen, & that's saying a lot when video games are littered with terribly written female characters, they need to let her go & introduce a new one that doesn't scream & beg to be saved every time she's on screen. I sometimes found myself wishing the villain would win.

I hope they really do take the puzzles seriously this time because it's one of the aspects of Tomb Raider I sorely miss, and the optional tombs were almost entirely a miss in the first title. I have no doubt that they'll at least nail the enjoyable combat, but I'm not holding my breath on the story/characters being any better than the mess that was 2013.

Um...they didn't make that stuff up. They were directly referencing a famous historical legend.

Like how Indiana Jones uses the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail legends.

There was nothing wrong with the supernatural stuff in TR13 IMO, the characters were just terribly written to a laughable degree, there is no way a professional writer would write characters this bad.

I don't believe it's gonna be better, even if they shit around like it is. They will aim for more accessibility than before in order to expand the audience. You know , how they usually do stuff. What we may hope that they don't get to be optional like in 2013 , i would love puzzles and challenges to be part of the story , not just an option

Was her mentor even a traitor?

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
How long would we have to wait for ports on other platforms do you think? I might buy it on 360 after a price drop depending on how long the duration is(and then buy it again on PS4 when the duration is up, yes i am a sucker, but i loved the reboot)

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

My best guess is it will be out for PC/PS4 within 6 months after Xbox release.

Sounds good, pretty excited for the title as I really enjoyed the previous game.

To some, maybe. But to me it was a HUGE issue with the game. Characters were boring and the story and dialogue were laughable, not in a good way

And this.

As much as I loved the previous game, the story and narrative was horrible ... Matthias had a horrible voice actor lol, he sounded like a cartoon villain. Really hope they imrpove on that

I agree. This was my favorite TR game, gameplay wise, but the writing was just soooo awful. I wish they could make something like the reboot but with a whole different approach to the story.

The story wasn't the draw. It was surviving on this crazy island. The way they re-imagined Lara was fantastic. The whole thing was grounded as you worked through the mystery and craziness of the environment.

I'm shocked to see so many comments about the story. I hope to god that CD doesn't add more plot twists or manufactured "exciting" plot elements just to appease these "concerns." I want an exploration based, ground story again. Just add more puzzles and tombs and I'm good.
